Download or read book The Best Liars in Riverview written by Lin Thompson and published by Hachette UK. This book was released on 2022-03-08 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the woods of a small Kentucky town, Aubrey sets off on a journey about growing up, self-discovery, and acceptance while searching for their missing best friend—perfect for fans of King and the Dragonflies and Three Times Lucky. Aubrey and Joel are like two tomato vines that grew along the same crooked fence: weird, yet the same kind of weird. But lately, even their shared weirdness seems weird. Then Joel disappears. Vanishes. Poof. The whole town is looking for him, and Aubrey was the last person to see Joel. Aubrey can’t say much, but since lies of omission are still lies, here’s what they know for sure: For the last two weeks of the school year, when sixth grade became too much, Aubrey and Joel have been building a raft in the woods. The raft was supposed to be just another part of their running away game. The raft is gone now too. Aubrey doesn’t know where Joel is, but they might know how to find him. As Aubrey, their friend Mari, and sister Teagan search along the river, Aubrey has to fess up to who they really are, all the things they never said, and the word that bully Rudy Thomas used that set all this into motion.

Book The View Across the River

Download or read book The View Across the River written by Jeff Guy and published by New Africa Books. This book was released on 2002 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a paperbound edition of a 2001 book combining biography and larger historical narrative. Guy (history, U. of Natal, South Africa) studies the life of the daughter of the Bishop of Natal, Hariette Colenso, as a window into the continuing process of imperialism and colonialism after the destruction of the Zulu Kingdom's political hierarchy. After the military defeat of the Zulus, the invaders turned their attention to diverting Zululand's productive capacity and material wealth to the benefit of the colonizers; but a number of women and men, including Colenso, resisted this exploitation. Guy argues that an examination of her interaction with the Zulus should be viewed as a contribution to understanding the complicated role of women in the world of late-19th-century imperialism. Whelan makes the rounds through seedy bars and dilapidated apartment buildings, discovering connections to a long-gone Chicago amusement park that was once the site of another murder. Download or read book Where the River Ends written by Shaylih Muehlmann and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2013-05-23 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Living in the northwest of Mexico, the Cucapá people have relied on fishing as a means of subsistence for generations, but in the last several decades, that practice has been curtailed by water scarcity and government restrictions. The Colorado River once met the Gulf of California near the village where Shaylih Muehlmann conducted ethnographic research, but now, as a result of a treaty, 90 percent of the water from the Colorado is diverted before it reaches Mexico. The remaining water is increasingly directed to the manufacturing industry in Tijuana and Mexicali. Since 1993, the Mexican government has denied the Cucapá people fishing rights on environmental grounds. While the Cucapá have continued to fish in the Gulf of California, federal inspectors and the Mexican military are pressuring them to stop. The government maintains that the Cucapá are not sufficiently "indigenous" to warrant preferred fishing rights. Like many indigenous people in Mexico, most Cucapá people no longer speak their indigenous language; they are highly integrated into nonindigenous social networks. Where the River Ends is a moving look at how the Cucapá people have experienced and responded to the diversion of the Colorado River and the Mexican state's attempts to regulate the environmental crisis that followed.

A View from the River is an essential guide to more than 60 significant buildings and structures along the Chicago River. This visual tour, filled with stunning contemporary photography and a variety of historical images, serves as a companion to the Chicago Architecture Foundation River Cruise aboard Chicago's First Lady Cruises. Since Chicago was founded in the 1830s, architects and engineers have designed this city through a series of unforgettable engineering marvels, from the buildings of the Chicago skyline to the Chicago River itself. The river, though a natural feature, has been dredged, straightened, and even had its direction reversed in the past 200 years. Today, the river flows through a canyon of skyscrapers, civic structures, waterside homes, and parks. As the city grows and changes, the river and our understanding of it changes as well. Now in its third edition, A View from the River is updated to reflect the city's latest developments and to further explore Chicago's past, present, and future.

Book The Golden Years at Riverview

Download or read book The Golden Years at Riverview written by Trebor Yelar and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2008-05 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In my younger days a fondness for Mexico encouraged numerous travels to this wonderful place south of the border. Many pleasant memories linger of the times spent there laced with a liberal amount of unfortunate experiences The Mexican travels are related in two parts, Mexico The Early Days chapter 1 (in two parts) And another, much later, A Mexican Fiasco of the 90's chapter 2 (in three parts). Having an affinity for the North Country, We also traveled there for many years, where I made many friends and had an abundance of wonderful experiences as well as a full ration of those less than favorable as described in chapter 3 Oh! For a Northern Adventure or Northward Ho Ho! The good fortune of meeting my life long Canadian friend, hunting and fishing partner, occurred on a return trip from the Northwest Territories in the sixties and is described in the Alaska (almost) chapter 4. Moose, bird -hunting and fishing were enjoyed during the years of these Canadian ventures, many of these stories and unforgettable incidents are included in the chapter 5 A Couple Times at Little Grebe' Also numerous moose hunts and adventures are described in Lysander, Root River moose hunt, and The Mascara chapters 6,7and 8. The second attempt at Alaska was a bit more productive than the earlier ones but even it was not without some interesting drawbacks as described in the Alaska chapter 9. After retirement to my river cabin for the last 18 or so years, I continue with many undeniably outrageous but stupidly rewarding as well as amusing activities as described in Tar Baby and Ku-Joe and the Buck, chapters 10 and 11. Las Vegas, chapter 12 relates an interesting experience on one of the many visits there.
