Book The rising market for Western apparel enterprises in China

Download or read book The rising market for Western apparel enterprises in China written by Dieu Linh Le and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2016-12-21 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2013 in the subject Business economics - Miscellaneous, grade: 1,2, University of Applied Sciences Bremen, language: English, abstract: According to the Boston Consulting Group report of 2011, the Chinese apparel sector is set to become the world’s second largest retail market by 2020 and will account for about 30 percent of the global apparel market’s growth over the next five years. Until recent years, China has been regarded as one of the main manufacture places of western apparel companies because of its lower labor costs. Nowadays, however hand in hand with the rapidly changing economic and social situation, China has shown the world that it is also a promising consumer market. Especially, apparel retail sales have increased tremendously and therefore offer huge opportunities. Many Western clothing retailers are increasingly viewing China as a huge potential market, because of its rising middle and affluent class and Chinese consumer ́s increasing call for western apparel products. Western products are related with factors such as quality, modernity or also care for the environment. Furthermore, many of the global brands have less market presence in China than in other operating countries. For example, the fast fashion brand Zara only has got 92 stores, H&M had roughly 78 stores at the end of 2011, which is still very few in comparison to the number of stores these companies own in other markets. The US fashion chain Forever 21 has just entered the Chinese market at the end of 2011. Companies who win this market in the next few years will definitely top the global apparel market. However, even though the potential is huge, winning this market will not be easy. To succeed, western brands need to adapt their strategies to Chinese consumers’ tastes and expectations; this includes the development of brand and company image and product tailoring to the Chinese consumer market. Any company that conducts business in China without effective methods risks a quick exit. This study has two major purposes: the first is to demonstrate why China is the future sales market for Western apparel companies and the second one to make recommendations for Western apparel companies that want to win the Chinese market. Research questions Main questions 1. What are the main factors of China’s economic attractiveness? 2. What could be an effective path to take when entering the Chinese market and which strategies do western apparel companies need to capture China’s dynamic market? Further questions 1. How could the future of the Chinese retail market look like? 2. Which are the barriers and

Book Strategy Structure and Performance of MNCs in China

Download or read book Strategy Structure and Performance of MNCs in China written by Yadong Luo and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2000-11-30 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: China is the largest emerging market in the world, yet Western MNCs have invested significantly less there than their Asian MNC counterparts. Luo systematically compares Western and Asian investment strategies and their performance in China and draws lessons that Westerners must heed. He compares Western and Asian MNCs on their respective economic rationales, cultural proximity, strategy behavior, investment structure, business determinants, and performance differences. He also reviews foreign direct investment in China over two decades, outlines the economic environment facing MNCs today, delineates new policies that affect foreign investment and operations, and discusses China's entry into the World Trade Organization and the impact this will have on MNCs everywhere. The result is a needed contribution to the literature on international investment and the China market, particularly for upper level executives, analysts studying emerging markets, and scholars specializing in international business and expansion. In Part I, Luo reviews the experience of MNCs in China and the opportunities and challenges, today and in coming years. In Part II he looks at the strategy, structure, and performances of Western and Asian MNCs. He assesses and compares strategic and structural behaviors of these two groups of MNCs, then deciphers and compares the differences in distinctive capabilities and their performance implications. In other chapters he examines and compares financial performance and its business determinants—thus giving executives of Western MNCs a way to verify the effectiveness of their own investment and operating strategies and to reconfigure them, if necessary, to include environmental dynamics and organizational capabilities. In addition to mini-cases throughout the book, there is an appendix consisting of six major case studies, detailing the experiences and successes of six Asian MNCs in China, offering a seldom seen glimpse of how the West's Asian competitors accomplish their own goals, and why the challenges they present to the West are so formidable.

What started a little over two hundred years ago as a search for a better life has fueled unprecedented global transformation. In his new book Homi Kharas looks at how this powerful dream captivated generations through history, but its demands have led younger generations to ask if it is all worth it. Can the middle class continue to thrive, or will it falter under the stresses of automation, consumerism, pollution, and political strife? The Rise of the Global Middle Class traces the history of the middle class from its origins in Victorian England to present day India. Along the way we meet knocker-uppers who have been displaced by alarm clocks. We learn how the Chinese Communist Party drew legitimacy from its ability to enlarge the Chinese middle class. Kharas proposes a new middle-class manifesto that addresses the pressing issues of inequality, climate change, and technological advances.

Book Why Customers Would Rather Have a Smartphone than a Car

Download or read book Why Customers Would Rather Have a Smartphone than a Car written by Cor Molenaar and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-03 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why Customers Would Rather Have a Smartphone than a Car explores some of the fundamental changes in consumer behaviour: Why do we buy less in shops and more on the internet? Why do we spend more on gadgets, smartphones and apps and not more on food, holidays or clothing? Why do most business people only look at symptoms and not the causes of changing customer behaviour? The new generation buys differently from the baby boomers; they have different priorities and preferences. The internet has changed us in the way we think, act and communicate. Whilst many retailers now understand the need for change, few of them have established convincing or sustainable models for the future. Cor Molenaar argues that by understanding the drivers behind these new consumer behaviours, retailers can identify the opportunities this represents and adapt their offering accordingly. The kind of relationship retailing he advocates involves the way the retailer interacts with their customer; the new environment that they need to sustain along with their ability to relate customer data, technology and new services. The author interweaves examples from traditional and virtual retailing with his research on consumer psychology and buying behaviour to offer a sophisticated and at times challenging guide for all those involved in retailing, as well as those responsible for planning and designing social and retail space.

Here, experienced journalist Fokke Obbema travels through Europe and China and speaks with dozens of entrepreneurs, students, experts and politicians. He shows how mutual relations are affected by a feeling of superiority on both sides, and sheds light on the thousands of interactions between people in finance, politics, economics and education. Above all he shows how a fear of China has permeated the discourse, and that we should instead take a balanced view of the future of China relations, even be excited by the change which is coming.
