Book Recent Advances in the Representation Theory of Rings and C ast Algebras by Continuous Sections

Download or read book Recent Advances in the Representation Theory of Rings and C ast Algebras by Continuous Sections written by John R. Liukkonen and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1974 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From March 20 through April 5, 1973, the Mathematics Department of Tulane University organized a seminar on recent progress made in the general theory of the representation of rings and topological algebras by continuous sections in sheaves and bundles. The seminar was divided into two main sections: one concerned with sheaf representation, the other with bundle representation. The first was concerned with ringed spaces, applications to logic, universal algebra and lattice theory. The second was almost exclusively devoted to C*-algebra and Hilbert space bundles or closely related material. This collection represents the majority of the papers presented by seminar participants, with the addition of three papers which were presented by title.

Download or read book Rings of Desire written by Helen Stoddart and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The circus has been both one of the most influential forms of international popular entertainment and yet at the same time remains almost entirely absent from academic studies of popular theatrical forms. This book offers readers an introduction to the cultural history of the circus and gives an account of the dominant characteristics of the circus's aesthetic practices and relates these to the sometimes precarious developments, changes and variations in its economic organization, architecture and social status. The book goes on to outline the particular challenges that this essentially live, dangerous and body-centred form presents to literary and film representation and does so through the particular examples of works by Charles Dickens, Federico Fellini and Wim Wenders. This wide-ranging and accessible book offers ways of thinking about the meaning and significance of the circus as a specifically modern form of art and entertainment.

Book The Theory of Rings

    Book Details:
  • Author : Nathan Jacobson
  • Publisher : American Mathematical Soc.
  • Release : 1943-12-31
  • ISBN : 0821815024
  • Pages : 160 pages

Download or read book The Theory of Rings written by Nathan Jacobson and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1943-12-31 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is mainly concerned with the theory of rings in which both maximal and minimal conditions hold for ideals (except in the last chapter, where rings of the type of a maximal order in an algebra are considered). The central idea consists of representing rings as rings of endomorphisms of an additive group, which can be achieved by means of the regular representation.

Book A Tour of Representation Theory

Download or read book A Tour of Representation Theory written by Martin Lorenz and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2018 with total page 654 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Representation theory investigates the different ways in which a given algebraic object--such as a group or a Lie algebra--can act on a vector space. Besides being a subject of great intrinsic beauty, the theory enjoys the additional benefit of having applications in myriad contexts outside pure mathematics, including quantum field theory and the study of molecules in chemistry. Adopting a panoramic viewpoint, this book offers an introduction to four different flavors of representation theory: representations of algebras, groups, Lie algebras, and Hopf algebras. A separate part of the book is devoted to each of these areas and they are all treated in sufficient depth to enable and hopefully entice the reader to pursue research in representation theory. The book is intended as a textbook for a course on representation theory, which could immediately follow the standard graduate abstract algebra course, and for subsequent more advanced reading courses. Therefore, more than 350 exercises at various levels of difficulty are included. The broad range of topics covered will also make the text a valuable reference for researchers in algebra and related areas and a source for graduate and postgraduate students wishing to learn more about representation theory by self-study.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dedicated to the memory of the Soviet mathematician S D Berman (1922-1987), this work covers topics including Berman's achievements in coding theory, including his pioneering work on abelian codes and his results on the theory of threshold functions.

Book Modular Representation Theory

Download or read book Modular Representation Theory written by D. Benson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1984 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This reprint of a 1983 Yale graduate course makes results in modular representation theory accessible to an audience ranging from second-year graduate students to established mathematicians. Following a review of background material, the lectures examine three closely connected topics in modular representation theory of finite groups: representations rings; almost split sequences and the Auslander-Reiten quiver; and complexity and cohomology varieties, which has become a major theme in representation theory.

Book Representation Theory of Finite Groups

Download or read book Representation Theory of Finite Groups written by Benjamin Steinberg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-10-23 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended to present group representation theory at a level accessible to mature undergraduate students and beginning graduate students. This is achieved by mainly keeping the required background to the level of undergraduate linear algebra, group theory and very basic ring theory. Module theory and Wedderburn theory, as well as tensor products, are deliberately avoided. Instead, we take an approach based on discrete Fourier Analysis. Applications to the spectral theory of graphs are given to help the student appreciate the usefulness of the subject. A number of exercises are included. This book is intended for a 3rd/4th undergraduate course or an introductory graduate course on group representation theory. However, it can also be used as a reference for workers in all areas of mathematics and statistics.

Book Introduction to Representation Theory

Download or read book Introduction to Representation Theory written by Pavel I. Etingof and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2011 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Very roughly speaking, representation theory studies symmetry in linear spaces. It is a beautiful mathematical subject which has many applications, ranging from number theory and combinatorics to geometry, probability theory, quantum mechanics, and quantum field theory. The goal of this book is to give a ``holistic'' introduction to representation theory, presenting it as a unified subject which studies representations of associative algebras and treating the representation theories of groups, Lie algebras, and quivers as special cases. Using this approach, the book covers a number of standard topics in the representation theories of these structures. Theoretical material in the book is supplemented by many problems and exercises which touch upon a lot of additional topics; the more difficult exercises are provided with hints. The book is designed as a textbook for advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate students. It should be accessible to students with a strong background in linear algebra and a basic knowledge of abstract algebra.
