Book Claims of the Country on American Females Vol 2 Classic Reprint

Download or read book Claims of the Country on American Females Vol 2 Classic Reprint written by Coxe Coxe and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-30 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Claims of the Country on American Females, Vol. 2 Especial stress has been laid, in the previous remarks, on the moral agency of women, in the maternal relation, because experience and revelation both teach us, that the influences are most available for the improvement of the highest interests of our race, which are brought to bear on them during the earliest and most impressible period of their existence. But many of the peculiarities in the political and social condition of our country, which have been briefly adverted to, will be readily admitted by a reflecting mind, to be calculated to operate little less favorably on the female character in other relations of life. If the full occupation of time to which the fathers of our land are almost necessarily subjected, enhances the value of maternal exertion, no less does the heavy demand made upon the latter, serve, in numberless instances to mature with rapidity the character of the daughters and sisters of America. Book The Law and the Woman Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Law and the Woman Classic Reprint written by Rose Falls Bres and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-04 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Law and the Woman By study and comparison of the laws of the several States in their relation to women may be evolved such legislative measures as will tend to establish a fair legal status for women, which would mean a government of the people, for the people and by the people, along with the concession that women are people. The power is vested in the legislatures of the several States to make, ordain and establish all manner of laws, statutes and ordinances not repugnant to the Constitution and deemed for the best good and interest of the Common wealth. It is by and through these law making bodies women must establish their protective and defensive measures and these measures should be so fair, sane and equitable as to command universal respect and confidence. Careful and intelligent progress by women in the shaping of such new laws as are intended to equalize their status with the male citizen will best demonstrate their right to citizenship with its resultant obligations and duties, for in the multiplicity of laws now cluttering our statute books a few more, unless direct, forceful and valid, will but add to the confusion and defeat their purpose. It may be well to recall the fact that in 1913 more than two thousand bills were introduced in the Wisconsin legislature, of which eight hundred and twenty three were passed. The law making bodies of other States stagger, session after session, under equally heavy burdens. Wherefore it would seem that a Bureau of Legislation, with women fairly represented, to which all bills would have to be submitted for approval before introduction. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Elected Mother: A Story of Woman's Equal Rights "Yes, and one of the very nicest parts about getting home is to find the astonishing faithfulness of Pa," said Mrs. Pettibone as her eyes roamed over the garden, the yard, down the long arbor and across the meadow bars to return to the wistaria on the side porch, which was riotous with the bumble of bees and blooms. "Why, you didn't expect to find anything else, did you?" demanded Mrs. Ezra Spain, who sat on the porch steps with a pan of snap beans in her lap which she was industriously and expectantly snapping. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Women's Suffrage: The Reform Against Nature In this manner it results that the lot of woman comes to be a lot of abridgment and suppression, much more commonly than we have been oh serving ourselves. As our attention is called to the matter, and we become more completely awake to it, we are surprised to find how many disadvantages are laid upon the condition of woman that no principle of equity permits, and no pretense of reason or necessity justifies. It does not surprise us that, in the savage and bar barons forms of society, she is reduced to the lot of a menial or drudge and well nigh to a beast of burden; or that she is bought and sold for mar riage, apart from any right of consent, and con signed in this manner to a husband whose power is a power of life and death. All such monstrous kinds of wrong we expect to encounter in the bar baric conditions of society. But the real wonder now forcing itself upon' our discovery, is that our own deliberately adjusted laws and institutions are so often unequal, as regards the property rights of men and women and the redress of their per sonal wrongs that women are so often excluded.
