Book The Riddle of the Infinite or Ananta

Download or read book The Riddle of the Infinite or Ananta written by Jayant Burde and published by Motilal Banarsidass. This book was released on 2019 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the bizarre but fascinating world of infinity in different disciplines of knowledge; mathematics, science, philosophy and religion. It projects the views of eastern as well as western scholars. This world is not only mysterious but also treacherous and conceals many conundrums such as a multitude of infinities, the mystic's experience of the infinite, conception of God as absolute infinity. The author also discusses many paradoxes relating to space and time. It is interesting to discover that some eastern philosophies try to reconcile two opposite concepts of sunya (zero) and Ananta (the infinite). The author also ventures to address a difficult question: Does infinity exist as a physical reality?

Book The Fading Light of Advaita Acarya

Download or read book The Fading Light of Advaita Acarya written by Rebecca J. Manring and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2011-06-29 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rebecca J. Manring offers an illuminating study and translation of three hagiographies of Advaita Acarya, a crucial figure in the early years of the devotional Vaisnavism which originated in Bengal in the fifteenth century. Advaita Acarya was about fifty years older than the movement's putative founder, Caitanya, and is believed to have caused Caitanya's advent by ceaselessly storming heaven, calling for the divine presence to come to earth. Advaita was a scholar and highly respected pillar of society, whose status lent respectability and credibility to the new movement. A significant body of hagiographical and related literature about Advaita Acarya has developed since his death, some as late as the early twentieth century. The three hagiographic texts included in The Fading Light of Advaita Acarya examine the years of Advaita's life that did not overlap with Caitanya's lifetime, and each paints a different picture of its protagonist. Each composition clearly advocates the view that Advaita was himself divine in some way, and a few go so far as to suggest that Advaita reflected even greater divinity than Caitanya, through miraculous stories that can be found nowhere else in Bengali Vaisnava literature. Manring provides a detailed introduction to these texts, as well as remarkably faithful translations of Haricarana Dasa's Advaita Mangala, Laudiya Krsnadasa's Balya-lila-sutra, and Isana Nagara's Advaita Prakasa.

Book Good Economics for Hard Times

Download or read book Good Economics for Hard Times written by Abhijit V. Banerjee and published by PublicAffairs. This book was released on 2019-11-12 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The winners of the Nobel Prize show how economics, when done right, can help us solve the thorniest social and political problems of our day. Figuring out how to deal with today's critical economic problems is perhaps the great challenge of our time. Much greater than space travel or perhaps even the next revolutionary medical breakthrough, what is at stake is the whole idea of the good life as we have known it. Immigration and inequality, globalization and technological disruption, slowing growth and accelerating climate change--these are sources of great anxiety across the world, from New Delhi and Dakar to Paris and Washington, DC. The resources to address these challenges are there--what we lack are ideas that will help us jump the wall of disagreement and distrust that divides us. If we succeed, history will remember our era with gratitude; if we fail, the potential losses are incalculable. In this revolutionary book, renowned MIT economists Abhijit V. Banerjee and Esther Duflo take on this challenge, building on cutting-edge research in economics explained with lucidity and grace. Original, provocative, and urgent, Good Economics for Hard Times makes a persuasive case for an intelligent interventionism and a society built on compassion and respect. It is an extraordinary achievement, one that shines a light to help us appreciate and understand our precariously balanced world.

Book Cultivating Gardens of God

Download or read book Cultivating Gardens of God written by Ananta Kumar Giri and published by Anthem Press. This book was released on 2024-11-12 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In self, society, religion and politics we are used to the language and discourse of Kingdom of God. But in this God is presented as an omnipotent king who is also angry at slight deviation. We get glimpses of such powerful and angry God in Old Testament as well as in many other religious traditions of the world. In such a discourse and portrayal of God, we fail to realize that God is mercy, rahim, karuna and compassion. God is our ever-awakened nurturer and He and She is continuously walking and meditating with us with mercy as well as firm challenges for self-development, mutual realizations and responsible cosmic engagement and participation. The vision and discourse of Kingdom of God has many a time been confined within a logic of power where we are prone to valorize God’s power in order to valorize our own power on Earth, especially the logic of sovereignty at the level of self and society, rather than realize God’s mercy. This book strives to transform this to Gardens of God.

Book excerpt: Made into a powerful, award-winning film in 1970, this important Kannada novel of the sixties has received widespread acclaim from both critics and general readers since its first publication in 1965. As a religious novel about a decaying brahmin colony in the south Indian village of Karnataka, Samskara serves as an allegory rich in realistic detail, a contemporary reworking of ancient Hindu themes and myths, and a serious, poetic study of a religious man living in a community of priests gone to seed. A death which stands as the central event in the plot brings in its wake a plague, many more deaths, live questions with only dead answers, moral chaos, and the rebirth of one man. The volume provides a useful glossary of Hindu myths, customs, Indian names, flora, and other terms. Notes and an afterword enhance the self-contained, faithful, and yet readable translation.

Book God s Existence Religious and Scientific Reflection

Download or read book God s Existence Religious and Scientific Reflection written by Ravi K. Puri Ph.D. and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2022-12-06 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When war, crimes, and calamities occur, the belief in God is shaken. The idea comes to mind. Does God Exist? If there is a God, then why is he not preventing deadly events comprising genocides, assassinations, crimes, and atrocities? On the contrary, He does not interfere. That means there is no God. Are people worshiping at various religious places Churches, Mosques, and Temples for various reasons wasting their time? If God does not exist, all these religious places should be closed and turned into cinemas, entertainment clubs, and sports stadiums. God is not any object that His existence can be proved. It can be felt by seeing His splendid creation. The act of creation reveals the creator. To know His existence is to know his magnificent creation and redemption. He is the transcendent designer and has not revealed Himself so far to anyone, No God, His prophet, deputy or beloved can interfere with any life on any planet. Each soul has its journey and is responsible for its actions. God is apathetic to the creation of the universe or any happening in the universe. The universe goes on as per its natural laws. So, let us not blame God for any catastrophe occurring in the world.
