Book excerpt: "In this book, Pamela Harper takes us on a walk through thirty years of gardening in good conditions and bad; season by season, she unsentimentally describes the plants that did not live up to expectations, as well as those that exceeded all hopes. Above all, she focuses her attentions on those trees, shrubs, and perennials that have earned her trust and affection for a decade or more - plants that have stood the test of time." "This is a photographed book, whose images document the charms of its time-tested plants. With only two exceptions, the 250 photographs are taken directly from the author's garden, adding to the book's value as a case study in plantsmanship."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Book Cultivars of Woody Plants Abutilon

Download or read book Cultivars of Woody Plants Abutilon written by Laurence C. Hatch and published by Cultivar.org. This book was released on 2016-11-30 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2013, the New Ornamentals Society (now Cultivar.org) set about to update it's extensive files on flowering maples or Abutilon. More than 110 cultivars were described. We expected the project to yield perhaps 200-300 cultivars and be finished in six months. It turns out that this genus was far more popular in modern times and a century ago than any of the researchers realized. After nearly two years, a descriptive checklists of 525 cultivars came together to the surprise of all involved. We dug even deeper and found new images from gardens and historical scans of old catalogs that sometimes had informative illustrations. This volume is, we believe, the most complete study of the garden varieties of Abutilon ever compiled and is the product of hundreds of hours of study and travel.
