Book The Rhode Island Freewill Baptist Pulpit Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Rhode Island Freewill Baptist Pulpit Classic Reprint written by Alvin Dighton Williams and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-09-17 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Rhode Island Freewill Baptist Pulpit And hence the present volume. None can be more fully or more sensitively aware that it has many defects than the writer. But elaboration and literary finish have not been attempted. Many of those-especially of our older ministers - whose biographies have been sketched, were plain and technically speaking unlettered men; and no effort has been made to make them appear to be, in this or in any other respect, what they were not. To embellish-their memories with the owers and graces of rhetoric, would only be to present them at a dis advantage - like a giant western pioneer trammeled with the finery of fashion. What they were would not be appreciated, and what they were not could not thus be attached to them if we would. As nearly as possible, therefore, they have been presented in the same light and garb in which they appeared to their unprejudiced contemporaries - just as they actually were. For in no other way would they be likely to be appreciated. The best of blacksmiths would be regarded as a most miserable ar tisan, if by any means he should be mistaken for a jeweller. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Freewill Baptist Quarterly, 1869 The Nicene system was precisely what popery has always been - a religion of sacraments. 've see it in the style and doc nine of Ambrose, as he passionately pleads with God for the soul of Valentinian, who had died uninitiated, unregenerate, un justified, - that is unbaptized. We find it in Gregory Nyssen, between whose Christianity and popery, the distinction, if any, is of the nicest kind - hard to catch and harder to keep one's hold of. Download or read book The Freewill Baptist Quarterly 1868 Vol 16 Classic Reprint written by and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-01-06 with total page 968 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Freewill Baptist Quarterly, 1868, Vol. 16 But the representative humanity of Jesus extends to the whole compass of our life, to its duties and joys, even to its saddest and darkest phases, its crushing and agonizing sorrows, and the tangled mystery of pain, disappointment, and bereavement. The Son of. Man was a sufferer by pre-emin'ence. He took our in firmities and bare our sicknesses. Though in the form of God, He emptied Himself of His glories, and became obedient unto death, preferring the most painful and ignomlmous death, even that of the cross, rather than commit the slightest infraction of the law of God. The Son of Adam did not pass by the cup of suffering, but in drinking its dregs on the slopes of Olivet and on the cross, bore away its curse and substituted a benediction, cast out its poison and changed it to most nutritious food. He suffered being tempted. His brief life was crowded with an guish. Sorrowful emotions rolled like tidal waves through His heart until they broke it. Grief forced Him to prayq, and gave impetus to His cries for help. His mind was wrenched with pain that no one knew save the Father, and no one save He or the Son can describe. Since then, such is the more than magical in uence of the Redeemer, suffering has been seen in a new light, and crosses have had a halo of glory that never shone about a monarch's crown. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Freewill Baptist Quarterly, 1856, Vol. 4 Christianity has attained its present position in the world by means of many earnest struggles. Her march to empire has not been steady and quiet. Her progress marks the eras of human history, and many a continental convulsion has indicated the strife from which her principles have sprung into the reverent view of men. The con ict awakened by her approach to the individual heart, and which Paul so graphically pictures in his epistle to the Romans, only symbolizes the warfare appointed her by Providence on the stage of public ad'airs.
