Book Top Secrets Confidential Revelations from the Life of the UK s Leading Private Detective

Download or read book Top Secrets Confidential Revelations from the Life of the UK s Leading Private Detective written by Stephen Hayes and published by Grosvenor House Publishing. This book was released on 2014-11-19 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The anticipated final book in the Biggest Gang in Britain trilogy. Moving on from the brutally honest accounts of police work during the 1960s and 1970s to the private detective sector of the 1980s and 1990s. The latest book gives further eye opening, and gripping revelations of accepted practices then and until the Human Rights Act of 1998 when such devious practices went underground and of course were constantly denied, but actively used until and beyond the prosecutions, imprisonment and further revelations concerning the News of the World journalists and others. As with Hillsborough, Jimmy Savile, Plebgate etc. in relation to the culture of lies and fabrication within the police the hacking, bribing and blagging practices of the media using private detectives were shockingly revealed for all to see. Following hot on the tracks of such revelations comes Top Secrets and once again, written in the same style as the first two books but this time naming names. Of course the book comes with hard hitting humour, is refreshing and surprising and if nothing else gives an entertaining insight into what were once accepted practices of private detectives and now all said to be underground and of course hidden in a blanket of denial. A colourful life, many amusing high spots but tinged with heart breaking sadness, charity work, Christianity and support of Firehiwot Abebe an Ethiopian five year old through Compassion, a charity releasing children from poverty. Every purchase gives valuable support to this child whose favourite game is sadly, 'jumping' and her favourite food is 'rice' and other little children with similar simple pleasures.

Book The Ascent of the Detective

Download or read book The Ascent of the Detective written by Haia Shpayer-Makov and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2011-09-29 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The figure of the detective has long excited the imagination of the wider public, and the English police detective has been a special focus of attention in both print and visual media. Yet, while much has been written in the last three decades about the history of uniformed policemen in England, no similar work has focused on police detectives. The Ascent of the Detective redresses this by exploring the diverse and often arcane world of English police detectives during the formative period of their profession, from 1842 until the First World War, with special emphasis on the famed detective branch established at Scotland Yard. The book starts by illuminating the detectives' socioeconomic background, how and why they became detectives, their working conditions, the differences between them and uniformed policemen, and their relations with the wider community. It then goes on to trace the factors that shaped their changing public image, from the embodiment of 'un-English' values to plebeian knights in armour, investigating the complex and symbiotic exchange between detectives and journalists, and analysing their image as it unfolded in the press, in literature, and in their own memoirs.

Book Detectives Don t Wear Seat Belts

Download or read book Detectives Don t Wear Seat Belts written by Cici McNair and published by Hachette UK. This book was released on 2009-09-23 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growing up in Mississippi, Cici McNair was always more the tomboy her mother supported than the Southern belle her father demanded. She escaped her suffocating upbringing the first chance she had to travel the world. Whether working at the Vatican in Rome or consorting with a gunrunner in Haiti, she lived a life of international adventure. When Cici finds herself in New York, divorced, broke, and fashionably starving to death in a Madison Avenue apartment, she impulsively decides to become a private detective. But, as Cici soon learns, the world of P.I.s is tight-knit and made up almost exclusively of former law enforcement officers. By nature, they are a highly suspicious group and are especially wary of a newcomer with an untraceable past. Diligently working her way through the Yellow Pages, doggedly pursuing the slightest lead, Cici is finally hired by a private investigator willing to take a chance. The next day she's working side by side with a pair of seasoned detectives and a skip tracer who is scary to meet but like silk on the phone. She quickly realizes she'll need all her energy and wits to succeed in this new world. Being a private investigator is as exciting and liberating as Cici ever dreamed, from creating a false identity on the spot on her first case in the field to surviving adrenaline-rushing car chases. Working with law enforcement, she goes undercover, dealing with the ruthless Born to Kill gang in Chinatown and the Middle Eastern counterfeiters west of Broadway. A detailed account of the hidden world and real-life cases of a P.I., this action-packed memoir is as entertaining as any detective novel you've ever read.
