Book Peace Upon Our Troubled World

Download or read book Peace Upon Our Troubled World written by Canice Njoku C.S.Sp and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-02-14 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a world where both the interior and exterior peace of its inhabitants is under constant threat by one form of chaos or the other, is there any hope for lasting peace? This reflection explores the impact of Jesus' gift of peace to his disciples during his post-resurrection visits in John 20:19""31. Importantly, it carefully evaluates the relevance of this visit to all living in today's challenging and chaotic world. This work reveals that peace is a gift from God and that Jesus' salutation ("Peace be with you"), which communicates much peace and liberates every troubled soul, is still very much re-echoed to all today. Hence, it is still relevant for the continuous restoration and sustenance of peace in both the individual and our entire world. Faith and humility are prerequisites for receiving the peace that Christ offers. Also, the Holy Spirit is a principal agent in humankind's search for lasting peace, and peace is not primarily a characteristic of happenings in the world but also a human attitude and a characteristic of all who have received it. The title of this little book speaks for itself. The peace that Christ offers is still very much needed in every soul and in our world at large. It is what our world lacks and needs most today, and this is what I present to you in this little book. This book consists of five chapters. Chapter one is the general introduction. Chapter two is a broad overview on peace. Chapter three is a brief analysis of John 20:19""20. The fourth chapter contextualizes Jesus' post-resurrection visit and the peace he offered. The final chapter is a brief summary and conclusion of the reflection. Peace be with you all. Amen!

Book The Gospel of Peace in a Violent World

Download or read book The Gospel of Peace in a Violent World written by Shawn Graves and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2022-08-16 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Blessed are the peacemakers." The gospel of Jesus Christ is the good news of peace: peace between God and humanity, peace among humans. And yet it can be difficult to see that peace in our broken, violent world. In this volume, Shawn Graves and Marlena Graves have gathered contributions from theologians, pastors, and practitioners on the importance and implementation of Christian nonviolence in today's world. The vision they cast not only responds to the realities of war and conflict but also offers a broader, deeper understanding of peace that addresses topics such as race, gender, disability, immigration, the environment, food scarcity, and more—a holistic shalom that is evidence of God's presence. May it be so.

Book The Resurrection of the Messiah

Download or read book The Resurrection of the Messiah written by Christopher Bryan and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2011-04-05 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Resurrection of the Messiah, Christopher Bryan combines literary, historical, and theological approaches in a study of the doctrine of the Resurrection. The book is divided into three parts. The first section provides a careful and sympathetic description of first-century Jewish and pagan opinions and beliefs about death and what might follow. This is followed by a presentation of a general account of early Christian claims about the death and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. The second part of the book offers a detailed, full-length commentary on and exegesis of the main New Testament texts that speak of Jesus' death and resurrection: 1 Corinthians 15 and the narratives in the four canonical gospels. As a framework for this commentary, Bryan utilizes the pattern of apostolic preaching presented by Paul and then echoed by each of the four evangelists, namely the formula "Christ died, Christ was buried, Christ has been raised, Christ appeared." The final section of the book is spent discussing and evaluating various proposals that have been made by those attempting to explain the data in ways that differ from the traditional Christian explanation. Bryan also considers various theological and ethical implications of accepting the claim "Jesus Christ has been raised from the dead." Throughout his study, Bryan exhibits a willingness to face hard questions as well as an appropriate reverence for a faith that for almost two thousand years has enabled millions of people to lead lives of meaning and grace.

Book Living in Peace Companion in Faith

Download or read book Living in Peace Companion in Faith written by Fr. Jeffrey Kirby, STD and published by Our Sunday Visitor. This book was released on 2020-09-18 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life is a blessing, and it is good and beautiful. But sometimes it doesn’t feel that way. Responsibilities and expectations increase, stress abounds, and we feel every bit of our limitations and shortcomings. But there is good news! The sufferings of this life will pass. They are incomparable to the majesty of God’s glory and his grace, which he offers to each of us. In response to the assaults of daily life, the Lord Jesus comes and says to us, as he did to the apostles when they were confused and scared in the Upper Room, “Peace be with you!” In Living in Peace, you will find reflections, prayers, and Scripture passages inviting you to find peace, no matter your circumstances. These reflections were first given to believers to inspire hope during the Easter season of 2020, when most in the United States could not attend Mass because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Born in the trenches and given in a time of great need, the reflections in this book are a timeless reminder that God is greater than anything we might face. May you receive God’s peace and become an instrument of his peace to others.
