Book The Jefferson County Egan Murders

Download or read book The Jefferson County Egan Murders written by Dave Shampine and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2014-10-14 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The true story of a triple murder that shocked a New York community and drew the interest of famed criminal defense attorney F. Lee Bailey. Twenty-seven-year-old Peter Egan, his wife Barbara Ann, and Peter’s younger brother Gerald were familiar to Watertown, New York, authorities long before December 31, 1964. The police suspected the brazen trio in a long string of burglaries and petty crimes. They were also under investigation by the FBI for grand theft auto. But on that New Year's night, the Egan family’s criminal career came to a violent end. All three were found with a bullet to the head at a rest stop off Interstate 81. The gruesome killings puzzled local and state police. Was it a random murder? A confrontation gone awry? Or a premeditated act of retribution by hardened criminals who feared the Egans would turn state's witness? Then, a surprise arrest was made. But when F. Lee Bailey, lawyer for the self-confessed Boston Strangler, entered the fray, the case took an unexpected twist that shrouded the murders in mystery to this day.

  • Author : Ron Lemco

  • Release : 2011-10-18
  • ISBN : 9781466303119
  • Pages : 266 pages

Download or read book Rest Stop written by Ron Lemco and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2011-10-18 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Synopsis Rest Stop is a 250 page realistic novel based on real characters I knew while I served my time in prison. It is about the convicts I lived with on a daily basis. The book starts off in prison and gives insight of the living conditions. It tells of the games that are needed in order to survive. It explains the brotherhood that forms between cell mates and the cliques you become part of, not by choice but out of necessity. Following a fight and a stabbing, the four inmates who are held responsible are being transported from a minimum security location to the main prison when they escape. The escape convicts come up with a plan to take over a rest-area on Interstate 15. It was just a few miles from Las Vegas. They figured that the people going to Vegas would have lots of cash on them. Their plan was to rob them and use the money to get out of the country. It is a long way from Oregon State Penitentiary to Las Vegas. A big part of the story takes place on the trip to get to the rest stop, with robbery, murder and rape along the way. The driving force behind the story is the dialog and vivid thought process, not only from the convicts but from the victims. Each chapter gives insight to the mind set and words of the escaped convicts, along with the Warden, the State Police and the Federal agent who is always just one step behind the inmates. The novel begins with a thrilling, fast paced opening. It holds the excited pace up to an unforgettably tense conclusion. Each chapter ends in a poem I wrote while in prison and coincides with the story. The epilogue leaves room for a sequel for a second book. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A road trip becomes a dead end for a schoolteacher in this haunting cold case of murder that became a fifty-year fight for justice. In June of 1968, Irene Izak, a young French teacher from Scranton, Pennsylvania, was pulling an all-nighter on the road toward the promise of a new life in Quebec. The last time she was seen alive was at 2:09 a.m. by a toll collector at Thousand Island Bridge who claimed Irene was visibly afraid. Less than a half-hour later, Irene was found bludgeoned to death in a ravine bordering DeWolf Point State Park. There were no signs of robbery or sexual assault. For reasons unknown, Irene had been compelled to pull off the interstate and abandon her car, only to be brutally murdered. Irene’s body was discovered by State Trooper Dave Hennigan, who’d stopped her for speeding shortly before—and issued the young woman a warning. Blending novelistic suspense with true-crime reporting, author Dave Shampine investigates a crime that shook the communities of northeast Pennsylvania and New York's North Country—a vicious and confounding killing that has remained unsolved but not forgotten.

Book A Special Kind of Evil

Download or read book A Special Kind of Evil written by Blaine L. Pardoe and published by WildBlue Press. This book was released on 2017-07-12 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The New York Times bestselling coauthors uncover new information in the Colonial Parkway Murders of 1980s Virginia in this true crime investigation. For four years a killer, or killers, stalked Virginia’s Tidewater region, carefully selecting victims and terrorizing the local community. Again and again, young people in the prime of their lives were targeted. But the pattern that stitched these killings together was more like a spider web of theory, intrigue, and mathematics. Then, mysteriously, the killing spree stopped. The unknown predator, or predators, who stalked the Colonial Parkway seemingly disappeared. Now, father-daughter true crime authors Blaine Pardoe and Victoria Hester blow the dust off of these cases. Interviewing the victims’ family and friends, as well as members of law enforcement, they provide the most complete and in-depth look at these horrifying murders and disappearances. The author-investigators peel back the rumors and myths surrounding these crimes and provide new information never before revealed about the investigations. “Remarkable research and a compelling narrative…relentless and harrowing.”—Burl Barer, author of Betrayal in Blue

Book My Brother Moochie

  • Publisher : Other Press, LLC
  • Release : 2018-05-29
  • ISBN : 1590518608
  • Pages : 305 pages

Download or read book My Brother Moochie written by Issac J. Bailey and published by Other Press, LLC. This book was released on 2018-05-29 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rare first-person account that combines a journalist’s skilled reporting with the raw emotion of a younger brother’s heartfelt testimony of what his family endured after his eldest brother killed a man and was sentenced to life in prison. At the age of nine, Issac J. Bailey saw his hero, his eldest brother, taken away in handcuffs, not to return from prison for thirty-two years. Bailey tells the story of their relationship and of his experience living in a family suffering from guilt and shame. Drawing on sociological research as well as his expertise as a journalist, he seeks to answer the crucial question of why Moochie and many other young black men—including half of the ten boys in his own family—end up in the criminal justice system. What role do poverty, race, and faith play? What effect does living in the South, in the Bible Belt, have? And why is their experience understood as an acceptable trope for black men, while white people who commit crimes are never seen in this generalized way? My Brother Moochie provides a wide-ranging yet intensely intimate view of crime and incarceration in the United States, and the devastating effects on the incarcerated, their loved ones, their victims, and society as a whole. It also offers hope for families caught in the incarceration trap: though the Bailey family’s lows have included prison and bearing the responsibility for multiple deaths, their highs have included Harvard University, the White House, and a renewed sense of pride and understanding that presents a path forward.
