Book Some Agronomic Experiments on Barley

Download or read book Some Agronomic Experiments on Barley written by Kanwaljit Singh and published by Educreation Publishing. This book was released on with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Present agriculture scenario in Punjab is exerting tremendous pressure on it natural resource, especially over exploitation of under grounded water due to rice wheat rotation. In Rabi season, wheat is major cereal crop requiring 5 to 6 irrigations for optimum yield having lest industrial use which led to the problem of plenty. The present book is an effort to promote cultivation of low water requiring crop having high industrial use. Barley has the potential to develop better link between traditional agriculture to the world famous malting industry. Therefore, it is required to quantify the qualitative traits of barley as per the industrial standards growing in this region.

Book Improved Crop Quality by Nutrient Management

Download or read book Improved Crop Quality by Nutrient Management written by Dilek Anaç and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-11-23 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emphasis in agricultural production has shifted from mere quantity to quality products. Practical experience and scientific investigations have shown that, of the various culture measures, balanced fertilization above all exerts a considerable influence on the quality of agricultural products. Simply adding more of what the crop has already absorbed to capacity is unproductive, expensive, wasteful and damaging to the environment. Therefore, balanced crop nutrition increases crop quality, safeguards natural resources and brings benefit to the farmer. Otherwise rapid population growth and severe urbanization will exhaust our natural resources.

Book excerpt: Barley is one of the world's most important crops with uses ranging from food and feed production, malting and brewing to its use as a model organism in molecular research. The demand and uses of barley continue to grow and there is a need for an up-to-date comprehensive reference that looks at all aspects of the barley crop from taxonomy and morphology through to end use. Barley will fill this increasing void. Barley will stand as a must have reference for anyone researching, growing, or utilizing this important crop.

Book Nitrogen Use Efficiency Plant Biology to Crop Improvement

Download or read book Nitrogen Use Efficiency Plant Biology to Crop Improvement written by Nandula Raghuram and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-07-29 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The predominant role of unused fertilizers in reactive nitrogen pollution and the need for research and policies to improve nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) is now well known globally. NUE research was originally championed by the scientists of the International Nitrogen Initiative (INI) and later recognized by some national governments and UN agencies such as UNEP, FAO and UNECE. The resulting first ever UN resolution on “Sustainable nitrogen management” in 2019 boosted the demand for solutions, especially in agriculture. The Berlin Declaration from the INI 2021 conference called for improvement of nitrogen use efficiency towards achieving sustainable food systems and all the 17 sustainable development goals. Crop NUE is primarily a biological problem, as there exists a genetic limit to agronomic improvement. Overcoming this genetic barrier for crop improvement requires better understanding of the biological mechanisms of N-response and the genetic determinants of NUE. Fortunately, crop genomics in general and the functional genomics of N-response in particular have been providing a wealth of information. The recent developments in phenotyping and genotyping for NUE and the emergence of phenomics, coupled with the growing ability of bioinformatics to integrate diverse datasets offer unprecedented opportunities to solve the NUE puzzle. Some candidate genes for this multi-genic trait have been validated, while some others are being identified, shortlisted or offered for validation.

Book Genetic Variation of Malting Barley Genotypes

Download or read book Genetic Variation of Malting Barley Genotypes written by Daniel Tadesse and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-10 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) is the fourth grain crop both in area and production in the world after maize, wheat and rice. In Ethiopia, barley is an important cereal crop that is mainly grown by subsistence farmers. Even though there is a potential to grow malting barley, Ethiopian breweries import large amount of malting barley abroad. This research is initiated to differentiate malting barley genotypes in their yield, malting quality and N-use efficiency so that poor Ethiopian farmers can grow the best genotype and sell their crop to the breweries. The genetic and environmental factors can cause a different level of variation of the yield and quality parameters of malting barley. High yielding nitrogen efficient crop genotypes may increase production, reduce costs and risk, and minimize the potential negative effects of N on the environment. Therefore, this experiment will be an input for malting barley study. In this research data were collected from yield and yield contributing traits, quality traits and N-use efficiency traits. Results obtained from each trait were analyzed, discussed and related with other researcher's findings in this crop.
