Book The Residential Energy Map

Download or read book The Residential Energy Map written by Alexis Blair Howland and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although energy efficiency has potential to be a significant energy resource in the United States, many energy efficiency projects continue to go unrealized. This is especially true in the residential sector, where efficiency programs, frequently administered by utilities, see very low participation rates. However, growing access to data and the growing prevalence of mapping technologies provide new avenues for introducing energy performance information in ways that could encourage increased energy efficiency implementation. Renters and homebuyers are increasingly using online interactive maps to inform their housing choices. If energy data is mapped or incorporated into an existing real estate map, energy efficiency could become a valued asset that influences housing decisions and encourages building upgrades by property owners. However, major obstacles remain in accessing the data necessary to create meaningful energy maps. Privacy is the most significant barrier to displaying building-level energy consumption and performance information. This thesis explores how an energy map could catalyze energy efficiency upgrades, specifically in the residential market. This research examines existing energy maps, existing energy assessment platforms and what data they use, and evaluates the state of energy data access in the United States. It seeks to answer what data is necessary to map building level energy performance, what policies are necessary to access that data, and how should energy information be displayed in a map for the most meaningful impact. This research suggests that State mandates may be necessary to access individual residential building energy data; that the Federal government should recommended a standardized platform, such as the Standard Energy Efficiency Data platform, to create a national standard for storing energy data and data taxonomy; and that an energy map will be most effective when displaying a relative energy performance score which could possibly be calculated from energy data and other publicly available building records.

Book The New Map

Download or read book The New Map written by Daniel Yergin and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2020-09-15 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Wall Street Journal besteller and a USA Today Best Book of 2020 Named Energy Writer of the Year for The New Map by the American Energy Society “A master class on how the world works.” —NPR Pulitzer Prize-winning author and global energy expert, Daniel Yergin offers a revelatory new account of how energy revolutions, climate battles, and geopolitics are mapping our future The world is being shaken by the collision of energy, climate change, and the clashing power of nations in a time of global crisis. Out of this tumult is emerging a new map of energy and geopolitics. The “shale revolution” in oil and gas has transformed the American economy, ending the “era of shortage” but introducing a turbulent new era. Almost overnight, the United States has become the world's number one energy powerhouse. Yet concern about energy's role in climate change is challenging the global economy and way of life, accelerating a second energy revolution in the search for a low-carbon future. All of this has been made starker and more urgent by the coronavirus pandemic and the economic dark age that it has wrought. World politics is being upended, as a new cold war develops between the United States and China, and the rivalry grows more dangerous with Russia, which is pivoting east toward Beijing. Vladimir Putin and China's Xi Jinping are converging both on energy and on challenging American leadership, as China projects its power and influence in all directions. The South China Sea, claimed by China and the world's most critical trade route, could become the arena where the United States and China directly collide. The map of the Middle East, which was laid down after World War I, is being challenged by jihadists, revolutionary Iran, ethnic and religious clashes, and restive populations. But the region has also been shocked by the two recent oil price collapses--and by the very question of oil's future in the rest of this century. A master storyteller and global energy expert, Daniel Yergin takes the reader on an utterly riveting and timely journey across the world's new map. He illuminates the great energy and geopolitical questions in an era of rising political turbulence and points to the profound challenges that lie ahead.

Book excerpt: The Prize recounts the panoramic history of oil -- and the struggle for wealth power that has always surrounded oil. This struggle has shaken the world economy, dictated the outcome of wars, and transformed the destiny of men and nations. The Prize is as much a history of the twentieth century as of the oil industry itself. The canvas of this history is enormous -- from the drilling of the first well in Pennsylvania through two great world wars to the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and Operation Desert Storm. The cast extends from wildcatters and rogues to oil tycoons, and from Winston Churchill and Ibn Saud to George Bush and Saddam Hussein. The definitive work on the subject of oil and a major contribution to understanding our century, The Prize is a book of extraordinary breadth, riveting excitement -- and great importance.

Book Impact Evaluation of a Major Residential Efficiency Program

Download or read book Impact Evaluation of a Major Residential Efficiency Program written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Pacific Northwest, about 40% of new electrically heated homes are HUD-code manufactured homes (commonly called {open_quotes}mobile homes{close_quotes}). The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) sets national energy-efficiency construction standards for manufactured homes that preempt them from local building codes. Until October 1994, a relatively low efficiency requirement established in 1976 by HUD was in place for manufactured homes. The Bonneville Power Administration (Bonneville) is required to acquire cost-effective energy efficiency to meet the electricity needs of the Pacific Northwest. Because electrically heated manufactured homes are so common and are relatively inefficient, Bonneville, utilities, state energy offices, and others have conducted a series of programs since 1982 to upgrade their efficiency (1). Because of the preemptive national code, these programs have all been voluntary for manufactured homes. Bonneville and the regional utilities and manufacturers created the Manufactured Housing Acquisition Program (MAP) in April 1992 after conducting projects for ten years to determine the cost of manufactured home energy-efficiency upgrades, predict and measure energy consumption, and establish a regional partnership. The program was phased in over several months; since October 1992, all electrically heated manufactured homes produced in the region have been built to MAP specifications.

Book Energy Justice in a Changing Climate

Download or read book Energy Justice in a Changing Climate written by Karen Bickerstaff and published by Zed Books Ltd.. This book was released on 2013-10-10 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy justice is one of the most critical, and yet least developed, concepts associated with sustainability. Much has been written about the sustainability of low-carbon energy systems and policies - with an emphasis on environmental, economic and geopolitical issues. However, less attention has been directed at the social and equity implications of these dynamic relations between energy and low-carbon objectives - the complexity of injustice associated with whole energy systems (from extractive industries, through to consumption and waste) that transcend national boundaries and the social, political-economic and material processes driving the experience of energy injustice and vulnerability. Drawing on a substantial body of original research from an international collaboration of experts this unique collection addresses energy poverty, just innovation, aesthetic justice and the justice implications of low-carbon energy systems and technologies. The book offers new thinking on how interactions between climate change, energy policy, and equity and social justice can be understood and develops a critical agenda for energy justice research.

Book Energy Use in Cities

Download or read book Energy Use in Cities written by Stephanie Pincetl and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-09-25 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an era of big data and smart cities, this book is an innovative and creative contribution to our understanding of urban energy use. Societies have basic data needs to develop an understanding of energy flows for planning energy sustainability. However, this data is often either not utilized or not available. Using California as an example, the book provides a roadmap for using data to reduce urban greenhouse gas emissions by targeting programs and initiatives that will successfully and parsimoniously improve building performance while taking into account issues of energy affordability. This first of its kind methodology maps high-detail building energy use to understand patterns of consumption across buildings, neighborhoods, and socioeconomic divisions in megacities. The book then details the steps required to replicate this methodology elsewhere, and shows the importance of openly-accessible building energy data for transitioning cities to meet the climate planning goals of the twenty-first century. It also explains why actual data, not modeled or sampled, is critical for accurate analysis and insights. Finally, it acknowledges the complex institutional context for this work and some of the obstacles – utility reluctance, public agency oversight, funding and path dependencies. This book will be of great value to scholars across the environmental sectors, but especially to those studying sustainable urban energy as well as practitioners and policy makers in these areas.

Book excerpt: The human body contains different energy points known as the chakras or Arushaat (Ancient Kemet), which exist in our physical body and extend to our auric and cosmic bodies. This book explains the functions and locations of the seven (7) chakras in our physical body, namely; The root chakra, the sacral chakra, the solar plexus, the heart chakra, the throat chakra, the third eye chakra (the brow chakra), and the crown chakra respectively. As divine beings of mother nature, it is crucially important to be in tune and balance with our dear planet to be on the vibratory match to transmit and receive divine signs, messages, and or support from the all/universe.According to the late scientist Nikola Tesla, to know the secrets of the universe, one must think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration. This quote is neglected by most today as we have failed to see beyond the illusion of the material world placed before us, which has not only blinded us but has caused a massive decrease in the vibration of the collective consciousness of the masses in our planet today. The proper means to communicate with the creator is through the Plane of forces present within our intermediate environment and manipulated by our mind's power. What is the power of our minds? The mind is not the brain alone as we may have been popularly made to know, but instead extends to the "BRAIN, HEART, and GUT." The brain actively helps us to analyze and feel situations; hence one must realize the individual functions to understand relationships with these sacred organs. Therefore, meditation is essential because it is a practice of using our mind to communicate with our inner self where all the answers we seek genuinely reside.
