Book excerpt: I'm all for spiritual development. I'm all for awareness and mindfulness and loving kindness. Looking after yourself, mind, body and spirit. It would be lovely if we all spoke a little softer, if we took a little longer to think before we act. If we were all a little enlightened. The world would be a better place. Like the tote bag I carry on my shoulder proclaims: Yoga will save the world. But who will be there to remind us, gently, that we're taking it a bit too far? When our facebook feeds are inundated by inspirational quotes and we've lost the ability to say things in our own words. When gluten is the devil and eating cake is tantamount to suicide. When we boast, daily, of our dietary restrictions and post snapshots of ourselves in the course of a practice that was designed to be personal. When every yoga class is an opportunity to open our hearts, to acknowledge the pain, the frustration, the sadness within, to welcome it, to go with it. When we consult spiritual healers and gurus and medicine men and forget to talk to our friends. When we ostensibly strive for balance, and fail to notice the irony of seeking it in extremes. I cannot be the only one who's getting a bit tired of this.

Through inspiring personal stories and wisdom acquired over time, Joni Kirby teaches us that we do not need to be trained to be. Instead, she encourages us to live as Rylan did—awakened, dancing, and celebrating life in the moment. As she leads others on the satori journey of reawakening, also known as Rylan’s untrainings, she reminds us of who we are deep inside, to love, live, and learn in the moment, to laugh often, to remember that all is well because we are one, to embrace the joy that is always within, to breathe in the space of stillness between thoughts, and to intentionally plant our life’s garden—all while embracing the beauty of life. Satori Moments shares anecdotes and wisdom intended to inspire anyone interested in finding their way back to their true selves and the I-ness within.

  • Pages : 239 pages

Download or read book The Box written by Wendy Tamis Robbins and published by Made For Success Publishing. This book was released on 2021-05-25 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you ready to find your way out of your box? There is a moment when you realize your life is no longer your own. You made it picture perfect. You thought it would make you happy and whole. You thought you could seal the walls tight and feel safe. But the panic doesn’t pass, and the anxiety seeps in through every crack. Your pain uses perfection to hide the unraveling. But deep inside, you still hear the whisper of a voice that’s always been there, calling to you, promising that you were meant for more. In The Box, Wendy Tamis Robbins offers a window into the mental illness of an all-star athlete, Ivy League-graduate, and successful attorney. At just 6 years old, Wendy’s first panic attack sparked a 40-year struggle with a variety of anxiety disorders: generalized, social and health, eating disorders, phobias, intrusive and suicidal thoughts, and dissociation. Avoiding anything that could trigger her symptoms, she retreats into a box to contain and hide her condition. After years of living in the prison she originally constructed as her safe place, Wendy is no longer willing to limit her life to accommodate her disorders. Raw and powerful, vulnerable and intimate, The Box is both a triumphant memoir and an irresistible invitation. It portrays a courageous journey to find the source of a debilitating disorder in order to find the power to overcome it. Wendy’s experience reminds us of the redemptive power of forgiveness and the healing power of love, not just for others, but for ourselves. It is a story of courage that reframes mental illness sufferers as survivors—a powerful portrait of a woman who refused to remain caged in a box of her making. Now, the invitation is yours… if you are willing to accept it.

Book Speech Mapping and Probe Microphone Measurements

Download or read book Speech Mapping and Probe Microphone Measurements written by H. Gustav Mueller and published by Plural Publishing. This book was released on 2017-04-05 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written in an engaging, easy-to-read format by three of the industry's leading experts, Speech Mapping and Probe Microphone Measurements is an essential clinical companion for all practitioners fitting and dispensing hearing aids. The key to successful hearing aid fittings is the patient-specific programming of gain and output. As outlined in all Best Practices Guidelines, the cornerstone of this process is the real-ear verification. Although speech mapping and probe-microphone measures have been used clinically for decades, new techniques and procedures continue to emerge. This is the first handbook to be published in 25 years that is dedicated to this critical clinical measure. Starting with an emphasis on evidenced-based practice, and the need to develop a well-researched gold standard, Speech Mapping and Probe Microphone Measurements takes you through the process of conducting valid and reliable speech mapping testing. Following a review of the basics of signal types, presentation levels, and patient and probe positioning, the chapters flow to the patient-centered real-ear verification process. In addition to extensive step-by-step guidelines regarding the routine testing and adjustment of gain and output, protocols for the evaluation of special features and fittings also are outlined. As a bonus, the authors provide a review of how speech mapping findings can be used with other measures that are part of the overall hearing aid fitting protocol.

Book Spiritual Titanism

    Book Details:
  • Author : Nicholas F. Gier
  • Publisher : State University of New York Press
  • Release : 2012-03-27
  • ISBN : 0791492826
  • Pages : 331 pages

Download or read book Spiritual Titanism written by Nicholas F. Gier and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2012-03-27 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work in comparative philosophy uses the concept of Titanism to critique certain trends in both Eastern and Western philosophy. Titanism is an extreme form of humanism in which human beings take on divine attributes and prerogatives. The author finds the most explicit forms of spiritual Titanism in the Jaina, Samkhya, and Yoga traditions, where yogis claim powers and knowledge that in the West are only attributed to God. These philosophies are also radically dualistic, and liberation involves a complete transcendence of the body, society, and nature. Five types of spiritual Titanism are identified; and, in addition to this typology, a heuristic based on Nietzsche's three metamorphoses of camel, lion, and child is offered. The book determines that answers to spiritual Titanism begin not only with the Hindu Goddess religion, but also are found in Buddhism, Confucianism, and Daoism, especially Zen Buddhism and Confucianism.

Book On Call

Download or read book On Call written by Anthony Fauci, M.D. and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2024-06-18 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The memoir by the doctor who became a beacon of hope for millions through the COVID pandemic, and whose six-decade career in high-level public service put him in the room with seven presidents “An eventful autobiography [and] a classic American story…Gripping.”—The Washington Post “One of the most consequential and most prominent [careers] in American medicine in the past fifty years.”—Jerome Groopman, The New Yorker Anthony Fauci is arguably the most famous – and most revered – doctor in the world today. His role guiding America sanely and calmly through Covid (and through the torrents of Trump) earned him the trust of millions during one of the most terrifying periods in modern American history, but this was only the most recent of the global epidemics in which Dr. Fauci played a major role. His crucial role in researching HIV and bringing AIDS into sympathetic public view and his leadership in navigating the Ebola, SARS, West Nile, and anthrax crises, make him truly an American hero. His memoir reaches back to his boyhood in Brooklyn, New York, and carries through decades of caring for critically ill patients, navigating the whirlpools of Washington politics, and behind-the-scenes advising and negotiating with seven presidents on key issues from global AIDS relief to infectious disease preparedness at home. ON CALL will be an inspiration for readers who admire and are grateful to him and for those who want to emulate him in public service. He is the embodiment of “speaking truth to power,” with dignity and results.
