Book The Relaxation Solution

Download or read book The Relaxation Solution written by Stephen Diamond and published by Empty Mind Publishing LLC. This book was released on 2022-06-07 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Relaxation Solution is a guidebook to discovering how the modern world has taught us to make ourselves tense, and how we can stop it, let it all go, and truly relax. Our environment today is dominated by stressful situations. Family life, financial trouble, illness and job demands are all significant sources of stress. People learn to respond to stress by tensing up. Originally a valuable self-protection mechanism, this habitual response is now making them anxious and ill. The Relaxation Solution provides a new approach to mindfulness, a set of exercises and meditations that gently and effortlessly guide the reader to experiencing freedom from tension. When practiced, these exercises reverse the habitual, unconscious tension response and instill a new habit of relaxation. Includes exclusive online access to 35 minutes of guided meditation audios. Editorial Reviews "If you want temporary relief from worldly tension, take a hot bath. If you want permanent mindful relief, read this book, do the exercises and thank Stephen Diamond." -Rolland Smith, poet, correspondent, and 11-time Emmy Award-winning television journalist "This is my favorite mindfulness book. It's written with a light touch, and we can feel Steve's generosity and good cheer shine from every page." -Greg Goode, author of Standing As Awareness, The Direct Path, After Awareness "The Relaxation Solution is written from the standpoint of a caring friend." -Terry Stevens, author, singer, stroke survivor, multi-exhibited fine artist From the Author For me it's personal. I've known that stress, disease, and death are closely related ever since I watched my mother die of cancer at the age of 52. Three years earlier she'd received bad news that dealt a blow to her self-image and caused her to doubt her life's purpose. She was never the same. Within 18 months after the news, she was diagnosed with colon cancer and underwent major surgery to remove much of her large intestine and install a colostomy bag. A year later the cancer had spread to her liver. She died slowly and painfully, ravaged by disease, chemotherapy, and radiation. Nobody knows whether excessive stress triggers cancer directly, but many doctors and medical researchers suspect that it can. What is known is that unmitigated stress can weaken the body's ability to fight disease and can cause cellular changes associated with earlier death. I've listed and linked some of the scientific research about this in the back of my book. I'm determined that no one else should suffer and die unnecessarily because they don't know how to handle the stress in their lives. That's why I've used insights from my lifelong study of meditation and self-realization to develop The Relaxation Solution, a ground-breaking program for genuine stress relief. It's my earnest hope that it saves others from suffering the fate my mother suffered.

Book excerpt: In the New York Times best-selling book The Tapping Solution, Nick Ortner, founder of the Tapping World Summit and best-selling filmmaker of The Tapping Solution, is at the forefront of a new healing movement. In this book, he gives readers everything they need to successfully start using the powerful practice of tapping—or Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT).Tapping is one of the fastest and easiest ways to address both the emotional and physical problems that tend to hamper our lives. Using the energy meridians of the body, practitioners tap on specific points while focusing on particular negative emotions or physical sensations. The tapping helps calm the nervous system to restore the balance of energy in the body, and in turn rewire the brain to respond in healthy ways. This kind of conditioning can help rid practitioners of everything from chronic pain to phobias to addictions. Because of tapping’s proven success in healing such a variety of problems, Ortner recommends to try it on any challenging issue. In The Tapping Solution, Ortner describes not only the history and science of tapping but also the practical applications. In a friendly voice, he lays out easy-to-use practices, diagrams, and worksheets that will teach readers, step-by-step, how to tap on a variety of issues. With chapters covering everything from the alleviation of pain to the encouragement of weight loss to fostering better relationships, Ortner opens readers’ eyes to just how powerful this practice can be. Throughout the book, readers will see real-life stories of healing ranging from easing the pain of fibromyalgia to overcoming a fear of flying. The simple strategies Ortner outlines will help readers release their fears and clear the limiting beliefs that hold them back from creating the life they want.

Book Combined Relaxation Methods for Variational Inequalities

Download or read book Combined Relaxation Methods for Variational Inequalities written by Igor Konnov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Variational inequalities proved to be a very useful and powerful tool for in vestigation and solution of many equilibrium type problems in Economics, Engineering, Operations Research and Mathematical Physics. In fact, varia tional inequalities for example provide a unifying framework for the study of such diverse problems as boundary value problems, price equilibrium prob lems and traffic network equilibrium problems. Besides, they are closely re lated with many general problems of Nonlinear Analysis, such as fixed point, optimization and complementarity problems. As a result, the theory and so lution methods for variational inequalities have been studied extensively, and considerable advances have been made in these areas. This book is devoted to a new general approach to constructing solution methods for variational inequalities, which was called the combined relax ation (CR) approach. This approach is based on combining, modifying and generalizing ideas contained in various relaxation methods. In fact, each com bined relaxation method has a two-level structure, i.e., a descent direction and a stepsize at each iteration are computed by finite relaxation procedures.

Book Principles and Applications of RELAX A Robust and Universal Estimator

Download or read book Principles and Applications of RELAX A Robust and Universal Estimator written by Renbiao Wu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-27 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The multiple signal demixing and parameter estimation problems that result from the impacts of background noise and interference are issues that are frequently encountered in the fields of radar, sonar, communications, and navigation. Research in the signal processing and control fields has always focused on improving the estimation performance of parameter estimation methods at low SNR and maintaining the robustness of estimations in the presence of model errors. This book presents a universal and robust relaxation estimation method (RELAX), and introduces its basic principles and applications in the fields of classical line spectrum estimation, time of delay estimation, DOA estimation, and radar target imaging. This information is explained comprehensively and in great detail, and uses metaphors pertaining to romantic relationships to visualize the basic problems of parameter estimation, the basic principles of the five types of classical parameter estimation methods, and the relationships between these principles. The book serves as a reference for scientists and technologists in the fields of signal processing and control, while also providing relevant information for graduate students in the related fields.

Book Relaxation and Decomposition Methods for Mixed Integer Nonlinear Programming

Download or read book Relaxation and Decomposition Methods for Mixed Integer Nonlinear Programming written by Ivo Nowak and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-08-15 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinearoptimizationproblemscontainingbothcontinuousanddiscretevariables are called mixed integer nonlinear programs (MINLP). Such problems arise in many ?elds, such as process industry, engineering design, communications, and ?nance. There is currently a huge gap between MINLP and mixed integer linear programming(MIP) solvertechnology. With a modernstate-of-the-artMIP solver itispossibletosolvemodelswithmillionsofvariablesandconstraints, whereasthe dimensionofsolvableMINLPsisoftenlimitedbyanumberthatissmallerbythree or four orders of magnitude. It is theoretically possible to approximate a general MINLP by a MIP with arbitrary precision. However, good MIP approximations are usually much larger than the original problem. Moreover, the approximation of nonlinear functions by piecewise linear functions can be di?cult and ti- consuming. In this book relaxation and decomposition methods for solving nonconvex structured MINLPs are proposed. In particular, a generic branch-cut-and-price (BCP) framework for MINLP is presented. BCP is the underlying concept in almost all modern MIP solvers. Providing a powerful decomposition framework for both sequential and parallel solvers, it made the success of the current MIP technology possible. So far generic BCP frameworks have been developed only for MIP, for example,COIN/BCP (IBM, 2003) andABACUS (OREAS GmbH, 1999). In order to generalize MIP-BCP to MINLP-BCP, the following points have to be taken into account: • A given (sparse) MINLP is reformulated as a block-separable program with linear coupling constraints. The block structure makes it possible to generate Lagrangian cuts and to apply Lagrangian heuristics. • In order to facilitate the generation of polyhedral relaxations, nonlinear c- vex relaxations are constructed. • The MINLP separation and pricing subproblems for generating cuts and columns are solved with specialized MINLP solvers.

Book excerpt: Based on cutting-edge brain science, Dr. Martin Rossman has developed a program to help you break the worry cycle—and transform worry into a positive force. Our brains are hardwired for worry. While our ancient ancestors had a legitimate use for the fight-or-flight instinct, today what was once a matter of survival has become the stuff of sleepless nights and anxiety-filled days. At its best, worry is a way for us to turn over and solve a problem in our minds. But for many, worry becomes a negative cycle of unnecessary suffering. In The Worry Solution, Dr. Rossman gives you an easy-to-follow plan for taking control of your reactions to stress and anxiety. Using proven clinical techniques that harness the very power of imagination that creates worry and stress, you will learn the five basic skills that will help you to clarify your worries, sort them into those you can and cannot do something about, and tap the wisdom buried deep within you to help solve problems creatively. At the heart of the program is the use of guided imagery and creative visualization, techniques that invigorate the emotional and intuitive parts of the brain to add to and enhance logical intelligence. Not only can you start to see a change in your stress levels immediately, but with regular practice, you may literally alter the worry pathways in your brain—and "hardwire" yourself for calmness and clarity. Grounded in cutting-edge science and wonderfully accessible, The Worry Solution is a powerful and practical guide to living your best life—healthier, happier, and free from unnecessary stress.
