Book The Multi levels of Nursing Education Impact on Nurses Attitudes

Download or read book The Multi levels of Nursing Education Impact on Nurses Attitudes written by Maryleah Dellavalle and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is this researcher's contention that nurses' attitudes, as shaped by the educational divisions in nursing has an adverse impact on their self-image and self-esteem, thereby dictating how nurses view and respond to each other, as well as their perceptions of how they are viewed and responded to by other members of the health care team and the health care system in general This researcher suggested the multi-levels of education as a possible explanation for the lack of cohesiveness within nursing's rank and file; this is not to be inferred that education is the only issue to be considered for this phenomena. Aaron H. Beck's cognitive theory was selected as the framework for this exploratory research study which was conducted as a telephone-interview and utilized a convenience sample of twenty nurses. The participating nurses were asked previously-prepared questions created by this researcher and based on the literature review, in order to provide a guide for their experiences and perceptions. The procedural steps of phenomenological methodology were employed by this researcher, yielding clusters of negative themes relating to the multi-educational levels of nursing, including practical nursing programs, their identity as nurses, their experience as staff-nurses, their relationship to other members of the health care team, and the ineffectiveness of nursing organizations. The implications of these findings suggest that nursing organizations and nurse educators need to address the current educational system. This thesis was not intended as an in-depth study; rather, this researcher sought to generate data which may be useful for further studies. Further research is needed to develop, analyze, and implement effective strategies that will serve nursing by addressing nurses' concerns with the recent nursing educational system.
