Download or read book Do You Know What You Look Like written by Jack Levy and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2005-08-15 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much of the work in this book has originated from an international project called "Education for Teachers". Educational researchers from Holland, USA, Australia and Israel look at an important element of teacher behaviour - that is the interpersonal actions which create and maintain a positive classroom atmosphere. The book uses systems theory and family therapy to analyze what happens in classrooms, looking at classes as "big families". It provides a simple way to collect feedback from participants in communication in education (students, teachers, principles, student-teacher supervisors). Thus for example, differences between students' perceptions and the teachers self-perception of the teacher communication style are are formed. This feedback can be used to improve teaching. The book reviews research on communication styles of teachers in secondary education with the help of the questionnaire on teacher interaction and includes implications for teacher programs.

Download or read book The Relationship of Cognitive Styles with Perceived Satisfaction and Performance of Teachers and Pupils in Hong Kong written by and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: (Uncorrected OCR) APPENDIX VII 100 ABSTRACT OF The relationship of Cognitive Styles v/ith perceived satisfaction and performance of teachers and pupils in Hong Kong The present study was conducted with a view to investigate both (1) the relationship between FDI and overall teacher perception and (2) the relationship between FDI match-mismatch and teacher-pupil reciprocal perception in Hong Kong. It was hypothesized that FI Hong Kong pupils' performance were rated higher than their FD peers by their teachers; FI Hong Kong teachers' overall rating on pupils' performance and their satisfaction of pupils were higher than their FI counterparts; and when teacher and pupil were matched in FDI, they perceived each other more positively in performance and satisfaction. The sample included 6 teachers and 70 form lower six pupils in a school in Hong Kong. The degree of FDI of both the teachers and pupils was measured by means of the Group Embedded-Figures Test (GEFT) developed by Witkin et al. (1971) while the teachers' and pupils' perceived satisfaction and performance were measured by Teacher and Student Questionnaire designed by Renninger & Snyder (1983) . 101 The research hypotheses were tested in their null form by means of 4 two-way ANOVA. The level of probability of type I error was set at .05. The results supported the hypotheses that in perceived satisfaction and performance, FD Hong Kong teachers' rating on pupils is higher than FI teachers, but failed to support the other hypotheses. However, a number of other significant results emerged. FI pupils' overall rating on their teachers' performance and satisfaction of their teachers were significantly higher than their FD peers; FI pupils were rated higher in satisfaction than their FD peers by their teachers. The unique education system in Hong Kong may be a probable factor accounting for the findings obtained in the present study and therefore further exploration on the issue of FDI in Hong Kong setting was recommende.
