Book The Relationship of Organizational Identity and Alumni Participation Interest Among Online Non traditional Undergraduate Students at a Southeastern Private Religious Universtiy

Download or read book The Relationship of Organizational Identity and Alumni Participation Interest Among Online Non traditional Undergraduate Students at a Southeastern Private Religious Universtiy written by Mary Carol Hendrick and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Colleges and universities depend heavily on alumni participation in the areas of financial contributions, positive advertising, and student recruitment. As higher education institutions increase the number of fully online programs, it is important to ensure that students feel a sense of connectedness to the university. The purpose of this study is to determine if there is a correlation between non-traditional, online, undergraduate students’ sense of connectedness to their college and their subsequent interest in alumni participation after graduation. This research provides information that would fill a gap in the literature on the correlation between perceptions of identity when related to a university that they attended completely online as a non-traditional student and its impact on their interest in alumni participation. The non-traditional graduate sample (N=110) provided a population from which to collect data by the use of two online surveys, the Organizational Identity, Distinctiveness, and Prestige Scale (OIDPS) and the Alumni Interest Survey (AIS), sent out by email through the university alumni association. Pearson Product-Moment was conducted to determine if a correlation existed between online graduates’ sense of connectedness to their institution and their subsequent interest in alumni participation. Further, the sample was then looked at from a gender perspective to determine if there was a difference between males and females. All three hypotheses were found to have a statistically significant correlation. Recommendations for future research are to determine if the same results are true at non-religious based universities who also offer completely online degree programs, as well as conducting a qualitative study to determine what non-traditional online students are looking for from their university alumni association participation.

Book Organizational Identification and Giving Behaviors Among Distance Learning Alumni at a Major Southeastern Public University

Download or read book Organizational Identification and Giving Behaviors Among Distance Learning Alumni at a Major Southeastern Public University written by Jennifer Terry Watson and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the number of alumni of distance programs increasing, and the decline of public funding for higher education continuing, overlooking engaging these constituents both as active members within the alumni community and as donors will likely be progressively detrimental to institutions as time progresses. The purpose of this study was to investigate how alumni of distance programs at a public flagship university behave with regards to organizational identity and the supportive behaviors of promotion and financial giving to the institution. The study examined the role of the elements of perceived institutional prestige and satisfaction in influencing organizational identity in the population of distance alumni. Also, the study explored the potential effect of demographic factors on the organizational identity of distance alumni. This study employed both survey research methods and utilized institutional data housed within the Office of Advancement to answer the research questions. The overarching finding of this study is that distance alumni do have significant organizational identity to the institution with similar results to previous research conducted with traditional alumni. The supportive behaviors of financial giving and promoting the institution are influenced by the organizational identity of distance alumni. Additionally, the elements of institutional prestige and satisfaction are influencing factors on organizational identity of distance alumni. Other elements, including age, college of graduation, level of degree, and holding multiple degrees from the institution, were found to impact levels of organizational identity in distance alumni. Findings suggest the institution could benefit from devoting strategic resources to developing exceptional distance degree programs for current students, while also exploring facilitating meaningful engagement and community for both current distance students and alumni of distance programs in order to raise organizational identity in the distance population. Additionally, soliciting distance alumni with appropriate giving initiatives could reduce the number of non-donors.

Book Are 100 Online Students Interested in Becoming Engaged Alumni

Download or read book Are 100 Online Students Interested in Becoming Engaged Alumni written by Stefanie Whitby and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to determine if non-traditional students, in particular those students that started and completed their degree online, differ from the traditional face-to-face student in their interest to engage with their alma mater once they have graduated. In particular, the focus of the study identifies variables that online students consider to be key motivators for enticing them to become engaged alumni. A survey was sent to 972 full-time Wilmington University students to identify their level of overall satisfaction with their educational experience in addition to identifying areas of interest for future alumni engagement opportunities. Three open answer questions were included to offer students a chance to share their reasons for wanting to become involved alumni and the barriers that would prevent them from doing so. Within the survey population there were 132 face-to-face and 54 online students that responded. Results from the 186 respondents refutes the assumption that online students are less interested in wanting to be involved as students and ultimately alumni. The survey responses and qualitative responses revealed that online students would be equally, and in some cases, even more inclined to be engaged with their alma mater following graduation. Recommendations were made that included creating an alumni presence with online students early in their educational experience, creating an online alumni organization, sending university logoed materials to online students to create a better sense of identity, and organizing an online alumni mentoring program.

Book The Relationship Between Student Engagement and Recent Alumni Donors at Carnegie Baccalaureate Colleges Located in the Southeastern United States

Download or read book The Relationship Between Student Engagement and Recent Alumni Donors at Carnegie Baccalaureate Colleges Located in the Southeastern United States written by Joshua Hylton Truitt and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2011, over 30 billion dollars were given to colleges and universities across the United States; donors included individuals, corporations, foundations, and religious organizations. Of the 30 billion dollars, 43% of this financial support came directly from individual and alumni donors (Council for Aid to Education, 2011). Leslie and Ramey (1988) stated that "voluntary support is becoming the only source of real discretionary money [that a college or university has]" (p. 115). The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the ability of responses from senior class students on the 2006 National Survey of Student Engagement to be used as predictors of alumni donor participation in liberal arts colleges. The sample of this study was 10 Carnegie Baccalaureate Colleges from the southeastern United States. The institutions that participated provided alumni donor participation data for members of the undergraduate class of 2006 for a five-year post-graduation period. Logistical regression models were developed to represent the multivariate impacts of NSSE benchmark scores and student demographics independent variables on the bivariate alumni donor participation rate dependent variable. The results indicated that two NSSE benchmarks, measured by the 2006 NSSE, (Level of Academic Challenge and Student-Faculty Interaction) and three demographic variables (parental level of education, Greek Life membership, and receipt of an institutional scholarship) had a positive relationship with increased alumni donor participation.

Book excerpt: This qualitative collective case study aimed to explore that attitudes and perceptions of alumni engagement at a private women’s college in the Southeastern United States. A total of thirteen alumni from one of two generational cohorts: baby boomers or millennials, were interviewed and six participated in two focus group sessions. Interviews and focus groups sessions were transcribed and coded for emerging themes. Questions for the interviews and focus groups were directly related to the study’s five research questions: (1) What are the personal and situational characteristics of alumni by giving level to the alma mater?, (2) What is the relationship between student involvement and subsequent alumni engagement?, (3) What are the attitude and perceptions of alumni towards annual giving to the alma mater?, (4) What are the general attitudes toward charitable giving of alumni?, and (5) What is the relationship between graduation recency and alumni engagement? Analysis of the data revealed that overall participants’ attitudes and perceptions of alumni engagement at their alma mater were extremely positive in nature. Alumni had strong feelings regarding giving back to the alma mater both financially and otherwise to help ensure that current and future students could continue to have the same experience. There were six themes which emerged as a result of this study.
