Book The Relationship Between Using Study Island Supplemental Math Software and Third Fourth and Fifth Grade Students Mathematics Achievement

Download or read book The Relationship Between Using Study Island Supplemental Math Software and Third Fourth and Fifth Grade Students Mathematics Achievement written by Michael Rich and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ex post facto study investigated the relationship between the use of Study Island supplemental math software and students' math achievement in a Title I public elementary school in Georgia during the 2011-2012, 2012-2013, and the 2013-2014 school years. Data from the school was collected regarding the use of a supplemental math software program called Study Island during the 2012-2013 and the 2013-2014 school years. Data on students' math achievement test scores was collected from school level reports for the 2011-2012, 2012-2013, and the 2013-2014 school years. Data was analyzed using a two-tailed t test to investigate the possible relationship between the use of the supplemental math software and students' math achievement. Study results can be used to inform current school curriculum leaders, administrators, and teachers as they invest in technology tools and integrate technology into the math classroom. Results could also help schools of educational leadership working with finance, curriculum and instructional leaders, schools of educational technology, and teacher preparation academies as they train educators to effectively integrate technology into the classroom.

Book Evaluating the Impact of Supplemental Online Math Instruction and Intervention

Download or read book Evaluating the Impact of Supplemental Online Math Instruction and Intervention written by Craig R. Tornquist and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study investigated the impact of the supplemental online math instruction and intervention program TenMarks.com on student achievement as measured by assessment scores in a school in California's Central Valley. Sixty-three students from two different fifth grade classes participated in the study. Both classes were taught by the author. The scores on the standard curriculum chapter test and Ten Marks.com post-test of students who supplemented their in-class instruction with Ten Marks.com were compared to the scores of students who did not use Ten Marks.com during the course of the study. The results found no statistically significant difference in chapter test scores from the standard curriculum. However, significantly higher achievement was found on TenMarks.com post-test scores for those who used the online program.

Book The Effects of a Web based Instructional Program

Download or read book The Effects of a Web based Instructional Program written by Penelope Pritchett Hill and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As advances in technology allowed national and state education assessments to be administered digitally, many school districts transitioned to computer-based instructional programs and assessments to improve student achievement and better prepare students for high-stakes computerized assessments. One such rural public school district in Mississippi implemented a supplemental web-based instructional program, i-Ready, for the first time in the 2017-2018 school year. The purpose of this study was (a) to investigate the effects of the i-Ready program on student achievement in Grades 4 – 5 reading/language arts and mathematics and (b) to determine if there were significant differences in growth (from pretest to posttest) among performance levels of students in Grades 4 – 5 on the 2017 state assessment in reading/language arts and mathematics. A quantitative research design using existing data was used to conduct the study, and the paired-samples t-test provided the primary means of analysis for research questions one and two to determine the effect of the i-Ready program on student achievement. The one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used as the primary means of analysis for research questions three and four to determine if there were significant differences in growth among students across Performance Levels 1 – 5. The results from the research study showed the i-Ready program had a positive impact on student achievement in reading and math for Grades 4 – 5. No statistically significant differences were found in student growth among the performance level groups indicating all students were impacted by the program. Recommendations for future research include: (a) conducting longitudinal studies to determine long-term effects of participation in the i-Ready program, (b) analyzing methods of implementation by classroom teachers, (c) measuring i-Ready’s predictability of proficiency and growth on state assessments, and (d) conducting studies of other online instructional programs using control groups.

Book An Investigation of the Impact of Integrated Learning System Use on Mathematics Achievement of Elementary Students

Download or read book An Investigation of the Impact of Integrated Learning System Use on Mathematics Achievement of Elementary Students written by Vicki Carpenter Kirk and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between time spent on an integrated learning system (ILS) entitled, SuccessMaker®, as a supplement to traditional mathematics instruction on achievement as measured by standardized achievement tests of elementary students. The variables of grade-level, ability level, and gender were also considered. The population consisted of students who were second-, third-, and fourth-graders during the 1997-98 school year. Data were gathered that covered the three-year period beginning in 1997 and ending in 2000. The final sample consisted of 348 students who participated in Computer Curriculum Corporation3 mathematics instruction and who completed the Terra Nova in 1997-98, 1998-99, and 1999-2000. Analysis of Variance was used to identify any relationship between variables. The study's investigation of the relationship between ILS use and mathematics achievement could assist educators in planning for use of technology as a supplement to traditional instruction. While the information gleaned is specifically beneficial to Greeneville City Schools, other school systems seeking information on the relationship between ILS use and achievement will find this study constructive, especially when viewed in conjunction with the existing body of literature. Findings in this study were mixed. ILS use was associated with positive effects, negative effects, and no effects. It was noted that negative effects occurred during the year with the lowest overall usage. No interaction effects were found in any of the models, indicating that the ILS did not have differing effects for boys or girls or for students of varying ability levels. Positive effects of the ILS, Math Concepts and Skills (MCS), on math composite scale scores were noted at grades two and three, while students at grades four, five, and six were either unaffected or negatively affected by the use of MCS. Math Investigations (MI), although used on a very limited basis during the course of this study, had a positive effect overall on math composite scale scores. Clearly, when math gain was the dependent variable, there were no effects demonstrated by use of MCS or MI.

Book The Geometric Supposer

Download or read book The Geometric Supposer written by Judah L. Schwartz and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-06-17 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a case study of education reform and innovation using technology that examines the issue from a wide variety of perspectives. It brings together the views and experiences of software designers, curriculum writers, teachers and students, researchers and administrators. Thus, it stands in contrast to other analyses of innovation that tend to look through the particular prisms of research, classroom practice, or software design. The Geometric Supposer encourages a belief in a better tomorrow for schools. On its surface, the Geometric Supposer provides the means for radically altering the way in which geometry is taught and the quality of learning that can be achieved. At a deeper level, however, it suggests a powerful metaphor for improving education that can be played out in many different instructional contexts.
