Book Tax Accounting in Germany

Download or read book Tax Accounting in Germany written by Benedikt Zinn and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2012 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Book-tax conformity is an old issue in Germany. For decades, the determination of taxable income is characterized by the authoritative principle governing the traditionally close relationship between financial and tax accounting. However, book-tax differences have been growing throughout the last decades. In particular, the German Accounting Law Modernization Act (BilMoG) is seen to set a new cornerstone in the development towards an increasing divergence between financial and tax accounting. Despite the unanimous agreement of growing book-tax differences, little is so far known about the actual relationship between financial and tax accounting in Germany. In contrast to international research that has developed a variety of approaches to measure the reporting gap and investigated the information content of book-tax differences for corporate reporting behavior, empirical research on book-tax differences and their implications is rare in Germany. Based on two unique data samples the author aims to close this gap in research and, for the first time, provide empirically valid estimates of the sources and magnitude of book-tax differences in Germany. In doing so, the author also calls the information content of tax-related disclosure requirements under German GAAP into question and develops reform options that do not only take the German perspective into account, but also consider the ongoing discussion on a Common (Consolidated) Corporate Tax Base for Europe.

Book The European Harmonization of National Accounting Rules

Download or read book The European Harmonization of National Accounting Rules written by Alberto Incollingo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2024-01-08 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With Directive 2013/34/EU - which replaced the 4th and 7th accounting Directives - a new step towards European accounting harmonization has been taken: accounting rules on private firms have been further standardized and, at the same time, brought closer to IAS/IFRS. This book develops a comparative analysis of the most relevant issues in the process of preparing the financial statements after the recent transposition of the aforementioned Directive into the local accounting rules and standards. This book is of interest for several reasons. First, private firms, which are not necessarily small-medium sized companies, are the most prevalent and the engine of growth in all European countries. At the same time, the international academic literature is mainly devoted to listed companies, due to the limited availability of data for private companies and the idea that accounting information is less relevant for this kind of companies. In addition, the analysis contained in the book is the result of the work of more than 30 European researchers, who contributed to both a vertical analysis of eight countries (Germany, Spain, Italy, France, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Denmark) and a horizontal analysis of the most relevant cross-cutting issues (fundamental principles, financial statement formats, impairment losses, capital reserves and profit distribution, income taxes, and non-financial reporting). More specifically, the book aims to examine, from a comparative perspective, the methods of application of the Directive in Europe, in parallel with the evolutionary processes of national GAAPs, in order to verify the impact of both legal regulations and professional rules on the quality and comparability of accounting information, as well as the degree of convergence towards the IAS/IFRS model.

Book The Changing Relationship between Tax and Financial

Download or read book The Changing Relationship between Tax and Financial written by Ester Oliveras and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The degree of connection between tax and financial reporting is regarded as a key factor in the study of international accounting differences. The position for Spain is briefly outlined in previous research but without examination of any specific accounting issues except, in outline only, depreciation and the tax-free revaluation of assets from 1977 to 1983. The absence of a detailed study of the major tax/accounting linkages for Spain is of particular importance because the relationship is regarded as having changed dramatically in the early 1990s, from a position of tax dominance. In order to measure the links between tax and financial reporting, we adopt the methodology of lamb et al. (1998) by assessing major accounting topics using a five-case classification shown as Table 1. We refute the proposition that suggests that the link between tax/accounting has been reduced substantially.

Book Financial Accounting and Equity Markets

Download or read book Financial Accounting and Equity Markets written by Philip Brown and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-06-19 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Philip Brown is one of the most admired and respected accounting academics alive today. He was a pioneer in capital markets research in accounting, and his 1968 article, co-authored with Ray Ball, "An Empirical Evaluation of Accounting Income Numbers," arguably had a greater impact on the course of accounting research, directly and indirectly, than any other article during the second half of the twentieth century. Since that time, his innovative research has focused on issues that bridge accounting and finance, including the relationships between net profit reports and the stock market, the long-run performance of acquiring firms, statutory sanctions and voluntary corporate disclosure, and the politics and future of national accounting standards to name a few. This volume brings together the greatest hits of Brown’s career, including several articles that were published in out-of-the-way places, for easier use by students and researchers in the field. With a foreword written by Stephen A. Zeff, and an introduction that discusses the evolution of Brown’s research interests and explains the context for each of the essays included in the volume, this book offers the reader a unique look inside this remarkable 50-year career.

Featuring contributions presented at the 17th Annual Conference on Finance and Accounting at the University of Economics in Prague, this title provides a mix of research methods used to uncover the hidden consequences of accounting convergence in the private (IFRS) and public sectors (IPSAS). Topics covered include international taxation (from both the micro- and macroeconomic level), international investment, monetary economics, risk management, management accounting, auditing, investment capital, corporate finance and banking, among others. The global business environment shapes the international financial flows of finance and the demand for international harmonization of accounting. As such, the field of global finance and accounting has encountered some new challenges. For example, policy-makers and regulators are forced to restructure their tools to tackle with new features of trading at global capital markets and international investment. This book complements this global view of development with country-specific studies, focusing on emerging and transitioning economies, which are affected indirectly and in unforeseen ways. The combination of global perspective and local specifics makes this volume attractive and useful to academics, researchers, regulators and policy-makers in the field of finance and accounting.
