Book The Relationship Between Servant Leadership Characteristics on Teachers Sense of Efficacy

Download or read book The Relationship Between Servant Leadership Characteristics on Teachers Sense of Efficacy written by Michelle Dawn Whitman and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was not known to what extent relationships existed between servant leadership characteristics in a suburban Eastern Nebraska school district and teachers' sense of efficacy. The researcher formulated two research questions focused on relationships that may have existed between servant leadership characteristics, teachers' personal teaching efficacy, and teaching efficacy. The researcher, in this quantitative correlational study, collected data through two online surveys using the Servant Leadership Assessment Instrument and the Teacher Efficacy Scale. The sample consisted of faculty and staff employed in a district located in Eastern Nebraska with a total sample size of 210. The researcher focused on the foundational research of Bandura's social cognitive theory, Vygotsky's zone of proximal development, and Greenleaf's servant leadership theory. Bivariate, correlational analyses were conducted by the researcher to determine if relationships existed among the variables. The researcher found a statistically significant inverse relationship between teachers' perception of their leaders' altruism and teachers' perceptions of teaching efficacy in general (r = -.700, p = .036). These findings were not consistent with the literature. One implication is that this study should be replicated to ascertain whether these findings are an anomaly. Another implication is to conduct a qualitative or mixed methods study to gain insight on how the two variables of servant leadership and teachers' level of efficacy may be related. A third implication is to conduct the study in various geographical areas and in K-12 schools. A fourth implication is to conduct a study with a larger sample size and use individual scores as the unit of analysis; this would yield more data and enable regressions and analysis of variance.

Book Servant Leadership Self efficacy and Communities of Inquiry in Higher Education Online Learning

Download or read book Servant Leadership Self efficacy and Communities of Inquiry in Higher Education Online Learning written by Rachel L. Huber and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This three-article dissertation explored various aspects of improving the quality of online teaching. Chapter Two was a quantitative study, and investigated the relationship between online instructor self-efficacy and student satisfaction at a private university in the northwestern United States. Chapter Three was a multiple case study which investigated how teachers who are familiar with servant leadership principles perceive servant leadership traits as able to transition to and have influence in the higher education online classroom. It identified what online learning looks like when the teacher uses the servant leadership model. In addition, the presence of mentoring in servant teacher online courses was established, and servant leadership was recommended as an effective pedagogical approach for higher education online learning. Chapter Four investigated the relationship between servant leadership training and instructor self-efficacy in terms of technology, pedagogy, and subject matter. This data was compared with teaching presence, cognitive presence and social presence (as measured by the CoI) in higher education online learning to identify any correlations. Chapter Five tied the three research articles together, concluding that servant leadership is an effective pedagogical approach with similarities with best practices and principles of andragogy. When teachers are trained and online programs are developed using a foundation of servant leadership principles, the result is increased mentoring, more effective online instruction, and increased satisfaction and success for students.

Book The Relationship Between Teachers Sense of Efficacy and Perceptions of Principal Instructional Leadership Behaviors in High Poverty Schools

Download or read book The Relationship Between Teachers Sense of Efficacy and Perceptions of Principal Instructional Leadership Behaviors in High Poverty Schools written by Tamela Horton and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between teacher perceived principal instructional leadership behaviors and teacher self-efficacy in high poverty schools. Data on these variables was gathered using the Teachers' Sense of Efficacy Scale (Tschannen-Moran, 2001) and the Principal Instructional Management Rating Scale (Hallinger, 2011). The study also explored the relationship between teacher self-efficacy and years of experience. Hierarchical multiple regression and correlation analysis was used to explore the relationship between the variables. The study found a significant relationship between teacher perceived principal instructional leadership behaviors and teacher self-efficacy. Of particular note was the repeated observation that the self-efficacy of teachers in high poverty schools can be supported through principal's framing and sharing the campus goals.

Book excerpt: In today's political environment with the emphasis on testing, standards, and accountability, teachers can easily feel frustrated by the amount of time and resources left over for teaching-for guiding students not only in academics but also in character education. Educators can find themselves losing focus of what initially inspired them to teach. Teachers as Servant Leaders provides pre-service teachers and those currently in the profession with a renewed perspective of not just being a content expert or classroom/behavioral manager, but leaders within their own classrooms, school buildings, and local communities.

Book Discussion as a Way of Teaching

Download or read book Discussion as a Way of Teaching written by Stephen Brookfield and published by McGraw-Hill Education (UK). This book was released on 1999-01-01 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is written for all university and college teachers interested in experimenting with discussion methods in their classrooms. Discussion as a Way of Teaching is a book full of ideas, techniques, and usable suggestions on: * How to prepare students and teachers to participate in discussion * How to get discussions started * How to keep discussions going * How to ensure that teachers' and students' voices are kept in some sort of balance It considers the influence of factors of race, class and gender on discussion groups and argues that teachers need to intervene to prevent patterns of inequity present in the wider society automatically reproducing themselves inside the discussion-based classroom. It also grounds the evaluation of discussions in the multiple subjectivities of students' perceptions. An invaluable and helpful resource for university and college teachers who use, or are thinking of using, discussion approaches.

Book Teacher Leadership and Teacher Efficacy

Download or read book Teacher Leadership and Teacher Efficacy written by April M. Guenzler and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study sought to identify correlations between constructs of teacher leadership, teacher efficacy, and teacher evaluation. Teacher perceptual data of support of teacher leadership, perceptual data on personal teacher efficacy, and teacher self-reported scores from the North Carolina Educator Evaluation System were gathered. -- The relationships between teacher perceptual data, evaluation scores, and demographic variables were investigated through an explanatory, quantitative research design. Items from selected elements of the Teacher Leader School Survey (Katzenmeyer & Katzenmeyer, 2005) and the Teachers’ Sense of Efficacy Scale (Tschannen-Moran & Hoy, 2001) were aligned with the study’s conceptual model and used in the survey. Data were compiled through online survey collection and were analyzed using SPSS software. -- Results indicated strong positive correlations exist between teacher perceptions of support for teacher leadership in their school (school culture of recognition and autonomy), teacher efficacy of teaching and learning (instructional strategies and student engagement), teacher leadership scores (teacher personal leadership performance in and outside of their school), and teacher effectiveness (student growth) scores. -- Strong positive correlations between teachers’ years of experience and level of academic attainment were also revealed. Career-level teachers were more efficacious, had higher perceptions of teacher leadership, and had higher scores of effectiveness. Doctorate-level teachers were also more efficacious and had higher perceptions of teacher leadership. Teachers with advanced degrees (master’s and doctorate) also had higher performance scores of teacher leadership.

Book Evidence of Servant Leadership in Professional Learning Communities

Download or read book Evidence of Servant Leadership in Professional Learning Communities written by David G. Geurin and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to analyze servant leadership and professional learning communities in Missouri schools. A central issue in the study was to examine the relationship of servant leadership characteristics to characteristics of professional learning communities (PLCs). Quantitative analysis was utilized to determine (a) the strongest and weakest aspects of servant leadership and PLCs, (b) the relationship between characteristics of PLC and characteristics of servant leadership, (c) what characteristics of PLC are most predictive of servant leadership characteristics, and (d) what characteristics of servant leadership are most predictive of PLC characteristics. A population of 279 teachers and administrators in Missouri schools completed the School Leadership Culture Inventory (SLCI). The quantitative data collected was analyzed statistically to address the research questions for the study. Descriptive statistics were used to identify the strongest and weakest aspects of servant leadership and PLCs. Pearson correlations were used to examine the relationship between servant leadership subscales and the PLC subscales. Multiple regression analysis was used to better understand the relationships between the constructs of the study. The results indicated a significant direct positive correlation exists between the characteristics of professional learning communities and servant leadership characteristics. Moreover, the analysis revealed that some of the subscales exhibited predictive value for other subscales. Based on the results of this study, school leaders seeking to develop professional learning communities may benefit from learning more about servant leadership and seeking to implement these characteristics in their own leadership behaviors. In addition, this research supports a connection between the theoretical underpinnings of servant leadership and professional learning communities.

Book Actions of the Principal

Download or read book Actions of the Principal written by Amanda Maslen Conner and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Classroom teachers are a significant influence on student achievement. Numerous studies indicate that teacher motivation and self-efficacy influence their effectiveness in the classroom. Furthermore, studies indicate that the leadership behaviors of the principal can influence the school culture and have a direct impact on teacher motivation and self-efficacy. This study sought to determine if a relationship exists between certain behaviors of administrators and a teacher's self-efficacy and motivation. The study used a correlational design using The Teacher Motivation & Job Satisfaction Survey (TMJSS), The Teachers’ Sense of Efficacy Scale (TSES), and the Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI). There were 72 high school certified teachers within the First District RESA in south Georgia who participated in this study. Results of a multiple regression analysis suggested that there was a significant predictive relationship between the combination of leadership behaviors and teacher motivation. However, the results suggested that there was not a significant predictive relationship between the combination of leadership behaviors and teacher self-efficacy. Future research recommendations include replication studies in other high schools and focus on separating specific leadership behaviors that showed the most influence, such as model the way, inspire a shared vision, and enable others to act.
