Book Human Auditory Response to Low Level Aircraft Flyover Noise Raw Data

Download or read book Human Auditory Response to Low Level Aircraft Flyover Noise Raw Data written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Changes in human hearing from exposure to low-flying aircraft noise representative of military training routes were measured during a laboratory study. In Phase 1, subjects were exposed to single flyover noise at levels of 115, 120, 125, and 130 dB(A). In Phase 2, subjecis were exposed to eight successive repetitions of a single flyover noise at a level of 125 dB(A) in one session and at a level of 130 dB(A) in a second session. Hearing threshold levels were measured immediately prior to and following each noise exposure. Some subjects experienced small decreases and others small increases in hearing sensitivity following the exposures. The temporary decreases in hearing sensitivity (temporary hearing losses) had disappeared in all subjects by the end of the test session in which they occurred. Overall, the data suggest that within the definitions of the laboratory study, which used worst-case noise expo sures relative to real-world exposures, the probability of noise induced hearing loss from low-flying aircraft noise in exposed populations is very small. (AN).

Book Hearing Threshold Levels of Non job noise exposed Air Force Personnel

Download or read book Hearing Threshold Levels of Non job noise exposed Air Force Personnel written by Lennart L. Kopra and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pure-tone threshold tests were administered with the Rudmose ARJ-3 automatic audiometer to 446 non-job-noise-exposed Air Force personnel. Results showed that (a) the hearing threshold levels of the non-job-exposed personnel were similar to the thresholds of comparable age groups reported in other studies; (b) the hearing levels of the 18- to 24-year-old group differed appreciably from the hearing levels of age groups above 25 years of age; (3) when the thresholds of the left and right ears of the total group were compared, poorer thresholds were noted for the left ears at almost all test frequencies; and (d) previous exposure to gunfire was not significantly related to hearing level.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Institute of Medicine carried out a study mandated by Congress and sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs to provide an assessment of several issues related to noise-induced hearing loss and tinnitus associated with service in the Armed Forces since World War II. The resulting book, Noise and Military Service: Implications for Hearing Loss and Tinnitus, presents findings on the presence of hazardous noise in military settings, levels of noise exposure necessary to cause hearing loss or tinnitus, risk factors for noise-induced hearing loss and tinnitus, the timing of the effects of noise exposure on hearing, and the adequacy of military hearing conservation programs and audiometric testing. The book stresses the importance of conducting hearing tests (audiograms) at the beginning and end of military service for all military personnel and recommends several steps aimed at improving the military services' prevention of and surveillance for hearing loss and tinnitus. The book also identifies research needs, emphasizing topics specifically related to military service.

Book Noise and Environment

Download or read book Noise and Environment written by Daniela Siano and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2021-02-03 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Noise pollution is one of the factors that affect the quality of life of the general population, especially in urban areas, where the noise levels are often high due to the presence of numerous sources, such as transport infrastructures, activities production and commercial areas, entertainment venues and other sound sources which, although temporary, such as construction sites and outdoor music events, affect general noise levels. Even if noise is one of the oldest pollutants referred to in history, for years, the problem of noise pollution has been often considered less important than others related to the environment, such as air pollution, water pollution, and waste management. The regulations in force to contain the noise have become increasingly stringent as each individual is constantly exposed to noise and often the noise is treated just as a scourge of modern society. Making noise is becoming easier and cheaper each day, but just the opposite for controlling it. Deeper studies are needed to understand the core of current noise problems; new materials and techniques are needed to control them. This book is a combination of theory and practice based on the latest research. The studies in this book range from evaluation methods for the perception of noise and outline forecast criteria that can be integrated with applications for acoustic mapping as well as the use of innovative techniques and materials for its abatement. The main purpose of this book, organized in 8 chapters, is to provide an overview of the recent studies in this field and the applications in different research studies. The authors, contributing to the success of this book, provide a series of practical applications of their recent studies aimed at the reduction of noise in different environments. The editors would like to thank all the authors who, through their studies and research, have accepted our invitation to share recent discoveries in this field with the scientific community.
