This book was released on 2002 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study measured job performance of United States Army Special Forces (SF) soldiers using a Mixed Standard Rating Scale (MSRS) format, performance dimension ratings, and rankings. Each SF soldiers performance was examined with a three dimension conceptual model (i.e. soldiering skills, Special Forces specific skills, and team member skills). This model was tested on two different samples. The first sample was made up of 1,273 U.S. Army Special Forces Soldiers who were rated by officers. The second sample was comprised of 1,121 U.S. Army Special Forces Soldiers who were rated by noncommissioned officers. This study found that the three dimensions of performance were highly intercorrelated with the highest correlation being between the soldiering skills and SF specific dimensions. In addition to correlation analysis, several regression models were also used to analyze each of the three dimensions. A full model was used to regress each of the nine sub-dimensions with the three dimensions of performance. Three reduced models were also made by regressing three sub-dimensions with each of the three dimensions of performance. It was found that each dimension used significantly different regression models. As well, the three reduced models were found to be significant in explaining each dimension. However, the reduced models were unable to explain a significant amount of variance when compared to the full model. Additionally, this study concluded that including all the items (positive, neutral, negative) improved each dimensional model's multiple correlation coefficient, but only marginally.

Book Investigating the Dimensionality of Job Performance and Its Relationship to Human Attributes Using a Sample of U S Army Special Forces Candidates

Download or read book Investigating the Dimensionality of Job Performance and Its Relationship to Human Attributes Using a Sample of U S Army Special Forces Candidates written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The two primary research objectives of this study were to look at (a) how different dimensions of job performance (i.e., task and team player) may influence overall performance and (b) how three human attributes (i.e., GMA, personality, and biodata) may explain variance in job performance. To achieve these objectives the current study used 256 U.S. Army soldiers attending the Special Forces Assessment and Selection (SFAS) course. There were four research findings in the present study that are particularly noteworthy. Two of the reported findings support the first objective while the final two results support the second objective. First, team player performance was highly significant at predicting overall job performance where task performance was only marginally significant to nonsignificant. Second, the peer assessment method (i.e., rating and ranking) used to measure overall job performance significantly influenced the relationship the two dimensions of job performance had with overall job performance. Third, there was a moderate relationship between personality and biodata and a nonsignificant relationship between the GMA construct and either personality or biodata constructs. Finally, only the ability construct (i.e., GMA) significantly explained variance in job performance (i.e., task performance).

Book Development of a Roadmap for Special Forces Selection and Classification Research

Download or read book Development of a Roadmap for Special Forces Selection and Classification Research written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The purpose of this project was to develop an agenda for Special Forces (SF) selection and classification research. Job analysis data, interviews, field observation, and expert judgments about the quality of measures formed the foundation for the Roadmap. The resulting Roadmap is composed of eight projects. Projects 1 and 2, Concurrent Criterion-Related Validation of Readily Available Predictor Measures Against on the Job Performance and Development and Implementation of Content Valid Job Sample Tests, supplement SF selection and classification with measures of leadership, temperament, and communication and analytic skills that could be implemented quickly. Project 3, Validation of Measures of Conventional Army Task Proficiency, Experience and Preference Against Training Performance, addresses the fit between individuals and SF Jobs. Project 4, Validation of Training Performance Against on the Job Performance, would evaluate the usefulness of training data for predicting job performance. Project 5, Predictive Validation of All Predictors Against on the Job Performance, the ultimate test of any selection system, requires maintaining databases for validation purposes. Projects 6-8 involve the development of information to facilitate decision making at the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School. The are: Development of a Selection and Training Decision Simulator (Project 6), Review of New Measures of Leader Problem Solving Performance (Project 7), and Training Performance Study (Project 8)."--DTIC.

Book Measurement Invariance in Performance Appraisal Ratings of US Army Special Forces Soldiers

Download or read book Measurement Invariance in Performance Appraisal Ratings of US Army Special Forces Soldiers written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the present study was to examine the equivalence of mental models of job performance between rater groups among US Army Special Forces Soldiers. Performance appraisals are often completed in organizations by individual raters, whose ratings are then compared to one another in order to make inferences of the ratee's performance on the job. Disagreements in ratings can lead to erroneous conclusions unless it is first established that comparisons between the rater groups are appropriate. Ratings of soldiers by two supervisory rater groups (N = 1052 and N = 910) on an appraisal instrument designed specifically for the Special Forces were examined. An exploratory factor analysis of the ratings indicated a four-factor model, which was then subsequently used to test for measurement invariance between the rater groups using multiple-group confirmatory factor analysis and item response theory. Fit indices indicated reasonable fit of the model, and ratings were concluded to be invariant at the rater group level of analysis, indicating that the rater groups refer to similar mental models of performance when rating individual soldiers.

Book Validating Future Force Performance Measures Army Class

Download or read book Validating Future Force Performance Measures Army Class written by Karen O. Moriarty and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To meet the challenges facing the Army, the Army needs predictor measures that will enhance entry-level Soldier selection and classification. One of the purposes of the Army Research Institute for Behavioral and Social Sciences (ARI's) Army Class project is to provide the Army with recommendations on which predictor measures, in particular measures of non-cognitive attributes (e.g., interests, values, and temperament), demonstrate the greatest potential to inform entry-level Soldier selection and classification decisions. The present report documents the development of criterion measures to assist in these analyses. A second purpose of the Army Class project is to develop and pilot job knowledge tests (JKTs) that can be used to aid reclassification decisions. If Soldiers are shown to possess critical knowledge, skills, and attributes (KSAs) for their new jobs, this could reduce training requirements and increase force readiness. This report documents the development of reclassification JKT test items.

Book Development of a Model of Soldier Effectiveness

Download or read book Development of a Model of Soldier Effectiveness written by Walter C. Borman and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The research described was performed under the overall heading of Project A , the Army current effort to improve the selection, classification, and use of Army enlisted personnel. It is part of an effort to develop dimensions for soldier performance for use in an Army -wide rating scale. The rating scale will be used in evaluating first-term soldiers in any type of Military Occupation Specialty (MOS). A review of the literature and previous experience with enlisted soldiers provided the basis for a preliminary conceptual model of soldier effectiveness. Behavior analysis workshops involving 77 officers and noncommissioned officers then provided more than 1300 examples of effective and ineffective soldier behavior. Another 61 officers and NCOs sorted these examples into categories, and rated the effectiveness levels of the behavior. Seventy-eight percent of the examples were retranslated into a single consistent category within a narrow range of effectiveness. Comprehensive definitions of behavior were prepared for each of the 11 dimensions represented. Behavior-based rating scales for use as Army-wide criteria in Project A validation research were then developed. This research note provides the lists of behavioral examples in the translation books, and the details of their analysis.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Includes a foreword by Major General David A. Rubenstein. From the editor: "71F, or "71 Foxtrot," is the AOC (area of concentration) code assigned by the U.S. Army to the specialty of Research Psychology. Qualifying as an Army research psychologist requires, first of all, a Ph.D. from a research (not clinical) intensive graduate psychology program. Due to their advanced education, research psychologists receive a direct commission as Army officers in the Medical Service Corps at the rank of captain. In terms of numbers, the 71F AOC is a small one, with only 25 to 30 officers serving in any given year. However, the 71F impact is much bigger than this small cadre suggests. Army research psychologists apply their extensive training and expertise in the science of psychology and social behavior toward understanding, preserving, and enhancing the health, well being, morale, and performance of Soldiers and military families. As is clear throughout the pages of this book, they do this in many ways and in many areas, but always with a scientific approach. This is the 71F advantage: applying the science of psychology to understand the human dimension, and developing programs, policies, and products to benefit the person in military operations. This book grew out of the April 2008 biennial conference of U.S. Army Research Psychologists, held in Bethesda, Maryland. This meeting was to be my last as Consultant to the Surgeon General for Research Psychology, and I thought it would be a good idea to publish proceedings, which had not been done before. As Consultant, I'd often wished for such a document to help explain to people what it is that Army Research Psychologists "do for a living." In addition to our core group of 71Fs, at the Bethesda 2008 meeting we had several brand-new members, and a number of distinguished retirees, the "grey-beards" of the 71F clan. Together with longtime 71F colleagues Ross Pastel and Mark Vaitkus, I also saw an unusual opportunity to capture some of the history of the Army Research Psychology specialty while providing a representative sample of current 71F research and activities. It seemed to us especially important to do this at a time when the operational demands on the Army and the total force were reaching unprecedented levels, with no sign of easing, and with the Army in turn relying more heavily on research psychology to inform its programs for protecting the health, well being, and performance of Soldiers and their families."
