Download or read book The Perceived Emotional Intelligence of Elementary Principals and Teachers Job Satisfaction written by Charis Lee Swift and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to examine the relation between teacher's perceptions of their principal's level of emotional intelligence and teachers' job satisfaction level. Nine elementary schools within a small rural school district in a southern state were the selected cite for the research. Thirty-nine teachers completed two on-line surveys. One survey was intended to report their perceptions of their principal's level of emotional intelligence and the second survey was intended to report their level of job satisfaction. The primary research question was: What is the relation between elementary teachers' perceptions of their principal's emotional intelligence and the teachers' level of job satisfaction? The independent or predictor variable was emotional intelligence: others emotional appraisal, use of emotion, and regulation of emotion. The dependent variable was teacher job satisfaction: supervision, contingent rewards, operating procedures and communication. A simple regression was conducted to investigate the impact of principal's perceived emotional intelligence level and the teacher's job satisfaction level. An exploratory factor analysis was conducted to examine the factor structure of teacher's perceptions of their principal's emotional intelligence and their level of job satisfaction. A one factor solution was sufficient in capturing most of the variability for both survey instruments. The findings indicated a strong relation between teacher's perceptions of their principal's emotional intelligence and the teachers' level of job satisfaction. Further research to improve principal's emotional intelligence and improve teacher's job satisfaction levels is recommended to increase applicants to teacher preparation programs and to increase teacher recruitment and retention.

Book The Relationship Between Principal s Emotional Intelligence Quotient School Culture and Student Achievement

Download or read book The Relationship Between Principal s Emotional Intelligence Quotient School Culture and Student Achievement written by Jeff Noe and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between secondary school principal's emotional intelligence quotient, school culture, and student achievement. Partial correlation was conducted to examine the degree of relationships between principal's emotional intelligence quotient and school culture controlling for the effect of student achievement, and between principal's emotional intelligence quotient and student achievement controlling for school culture. Multiple regression analysis was utilized to examine the combined effect of principal's emotional intelligence quotient and school culture on student achievement. The study population consisted of secondary school principals and teachers within Virginia Department of Education's Region VII. Quantitative data were collected using two survey instruments and publicly available standardized test pass percentage data: Emotional Intelligence Appraisal (see Appendix A for sample questions) by TalentSmart (Bradberry & Greaves, 2010); the School Culture Survey (see Appendix B) developed by Gruenert (1998); and The Commonwealth of Virginia's Standards of Learning (SOL) test data. The results showed principal's emotional intelligence quotient was not significantly associated with school culture, and negatively associated with student achievement. Further, the combination of predictor variables principal's emotional intelligence quotient and school culture, did not significantly predict student achievement. Suggestions for further research are also included.

Book The Emotional Intelligence of New York City School Principals

Download or read book The Emotional Intelligence of New York City School Principals written by Jerald Tsekas and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2013-01-08 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: School performance and quality of education are significantly influenced by a school leader's emotional intelligence and employee teacher turnover. Teacher turnover and productivity are influenced by the relationship between the employee and the employee's immediate manager (Zipkin, 2000). The specific problem is that a school leader's low emotional intelligence may influence teacher turnover rates, which in turn influences: (a) employee productivity, (b) organizational performance, and (c) organizational stability. The intent of this quantitative correlational research study was to discover the degree to which a school leader's emotional intelligence influences respective teacher turnover rates, in four locations in the New York City area, located in the northeastern United States. Emotional intelligence competencies are not innate, but are learned abilities that make leaders more effective (Goleman, Boyatzis, & McKee, 2002). Understanding the relationship between leader emotional intelligence and employee turnover contributes knowledge to the field of emotional intelligence and may potentially improve an organization's productivity and school excellence.

Book An Examination of the Relationship Between Emotional Intelligence and Servant Leadership Practices of Elementary Public School Principals in Washington State

Download or read book An Examination of the Relationship Between Emotional Intelligence and Servant Leadership Practices of Elementary Public School Principals in Washington State written by Kathleen J. Werner and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study investigated whether there was a correlation between principal's emotional intelligence and servant leadership behaviors, as perceived by the teachers in their schools. The teachers ratings their principals' emotional intelligence and servant leadership behaviors were also compared with and the principals' self-ratings on the same measures. Many elementary principals are overwhelmed with their jobs and the level of stress sometimes reaches the point of exhaustion. This quantitative study used the Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale to measure the elementary principals' rating of the independent variable emotional intelligence and the WLEIS-observer to measure the teacher ratings of the principals. Research has shown that the leadership style of a principal is important to the success of a school. Servant leadership combined with emotional intelligence were identified in this study as strongly correlated in the leadership of elementary school principals; 97% of the constructs (34 out of 35) correlated significantly in the teachers' ratings of SL and EI, and 74% of the constructs (26 out of 35) correlated significantly in the principals' ratings of SL and EI. The hope is that this study will serve as a guide to refine the investigation of the correlation of servant leadership and emotional intelligence. The findings of this study may help the elementary principals in public schools gain an understanding of the significance that servant leadership and emotional intelligence may have in their role as a school principal. The findings might also help to create a better training process to prepare elementary principals for the stressful job of prinicipalship.
