Download or read book The Relationship Between Participatory Decision making and Job Satisfaction in Educational Organizations written by Abdulmajid Mohamed Abdulwahab Al-Daba and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The relationship between participatory decision-making (PDM) and job satisfaction has attracted the attention of not only business researchers but also learning researchers as well. However, the issue has not been given noteworthy attention in the educational administration research field. This correlational study is conducted to investigate the relationship between (PDM) and job satisfaction in an educational organization, a case study at International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM). This study is carried out on the positivism approach to research. The study utilized a descriptive survey research method. The population of the study was all administrative staff at the International Islamic University of Malaysia. An adapted questionnaire was administered and distributed to 400 administrative staff in all the faculties, centers, divisions and offices of IIUM; however, 255 questionnaires were returned, representing a return rate of 63%. The study comprised of two major variables, namely PDM, which was the independent variable and job satisfaction which was the dependent variable. A five point scale was used to collect data and analysis was based on averages, percentage, correlation coefficient and independent T-test. The descriptive statistics indicated a very high level administrative staff's participation in PDM and high level of job satisfaction. The correlational analysis found that PDM and Shura have significant impact on administrative staff's satisfaction. Also, this finding implies that involving administrative staff in educational decision-making would be useful to improve not only their satisfaction but also organizational production. In the research findings, there were some implications for administrative staff and some recommendations made for future researches on the relationship between participation decision-making and job satisfaction in educational organizations.

Book Faculty Participation in Decision Making

Download or read book Faculty Participation in Decision Making written by Carol Everly Floyd and published by Study of Higher Education. This book was released on 1985 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The literature concerning higher education and generic organization theory is reviewed to address various questions relating to faculty participation in institutional decision-making. Attention is directed to: the rationale for faculty participation, alternative types of participation, participation in academic senates, participation by functional area, participation at the system and state levels, participation and centralization/decentralization, strengthening consultative processes, and increasing faculty satisfaction and participation. Generic organization theory provides extensive reasons why participation in organizational decision-making can improve employees' satisfaction and performance. Types of faculty participation in institutional decision-making are separate jurisdictions, shared authority, and joint participation. Faculty participation can involve curriculum design, faculty personnel status, selection and evaluation of administrators, planning, budgeting, and planning for retrenchment or financial exigency. Joint faculty and administrator efforts may focus on four important areas: rebuilding collegial foundations, shaping the consultative framework, increasing the availability of information, and facilitating group deliberations. Areas for further analysis are suggested. (SW)

Book Workers Participation in Decision Making and Job Satisfaction in Organizations

Download or read book Workers Participation in Decision Making and Job Satisfaction in Organizations written by Adongoi Toakodi and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Case Study from the year 2010 in the subject Leadership and Human Resources - Miscellaneous, , language: English, abstract: This study aimed at evaluating the impact of worker’s participation in the decision-making process on job satisfaction, industrial harmony, and productivity in organizations, with particular reference to the Universal Basic Education Board in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. Built around the survey design, two hundred and eighty-four (284) respondents were reached through a multi-stage sampling method and questionnaire was used as the instrument for collecting primary data, while relying on the library for secondary data. Data from the field was subjected to description by simple percentages, but drawing of inference was done through the use of the chi-square statistical test. Pivoted by the Achievement-Power-Affiliation motivation theory of David Mcclelland, the study acknowledges the difficulty in measuring productivity in this context. Data that emerge reveal that there is a direct relationship between the degree of workers’ participation in the various organizational decision making processes and job satisfaction, industrial harmony, and productivity. The study, thus, concludes that if workers actively participate in the decision making processes of organization, certainly job satisfaction would breed industrial harmony, which ultimately would ensure higher productivity. To this end, the study recommends, among others, that industrial unions in organizations be strengthened by managements, and workers should be enlightened on their right to seize opportunity of involvement in decision making and trained in the art of constructive participation in the various processes in organizations.

"Finally we have a data-driven text on participatory action research for educational leaders. Through thoughtful examples and guided instruction, this text makes the case that the complex issues of today and tomorrow require multifaceted, rigorous, and results-oriented processes best undertaken through partnerships between educators and the communities they serve." —Darlyne Bailey, Dean and Assistant to the President, University of Minnesota "This book includes a very useful hands-on approach to developing a PAR project. It is written in a manner that is accessible to teachers, it is detailed enough to provide clear descriptions, and the exercises at the end of each chapter help readers to implement the new material." —Elizabeth Grassi, Regis University "In a clear manner, this text provides the tools necessary to conduct collaborative action research in order to create needed change in our classrooms and schools. Using this book, teachers, administrators, parents, and students can become active participants in the movement toward educational change." —Emma Fuentes, University of San Francisco The participatory action research (PAR) process discussed in the text represents the next evolutionary stage for action research and practitioner research in education. Authors E. Alana James, Margaret T. Milenkiewicz, and Alan Bucknam provide a readable overview of the PAR process similar to professional learning communities in schools. This fresh approach to participatory action research fully integrates process with research methodology. The results of the original PAR study and continued work with educational leaders propose that this "And/Both" approach ultimately produces the effect that school leaders seek and appreciate. Key Features Guides the reader through the PAR steps with a graphically illustrated process: The book′s design reaches out to visual learners with graphic elements while employing a research logic model that helps ensure rigorous research methodology. Provides reflective questions preceding each section: The questions increase the reflective practices and routines of the reader as appropriate to the PAR process. Presents real-world examples: Practitioner stories make the lessons real and alleviate the emotional unease that comes from tackling research practices for the first time. Offers tasks for working both in teams and as individuals: These tools aid participatory teams in working toward consensus and strong research designs. Intended Audience This is an ideal core text for graduate courses such as Action Research for School Improvement, Research for Educational Practitioners, Practitioner Research, and Teacher as Researcher in departments of education. It can also be used as a supplemental text in other research methods courses and in data-driven decision-making courses.

Book Participative Decision Making and Employees Job Satisfaction

Download or read book Participative Decision Making and Employees Job Satisfaction written by Amal Saadeldeen Elsayed Ali Azab and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: The study investigated how does participative decision making affect employees' job satisfaction in a specific work setting (Public and private pharmaceutical companies in Egypt). A public pharmaceutical company was chosen as an example for public business sector companies in Egypt, and a comparison was made between the forms of management system applied in the public versus the private sampled companies. The study used in-depth semi- structured interviews with a total number of 32 employees and managers interviewed from the two companies. Results of the study highlighted a strong relation proving that applying participative decision making in the company increases employees' job satisfaction. In addition, the study assessed four employee-based factors affecting participative decision making and concluded that employee's efficiency has a positive effect on incorporating the employee in the decision making process, then comes the second factor which is the years of employee's experience in the same field. On the other hand the study failed to find a strong correlation between the other two factors - the educational level and the managerial level- and participative decision making, suggesting the need for further study. The comparison held in the study included the pathways each company gives for its employees to communicate with the middle and top management levels. It also included four institutional-based factors affecting employees' satisfaction and participation in decision making; the incentives system, promotion system, concept of hard work in the organizational culture, and disciplinary system and accountability distribution. And the study concluded that the management system applied in the private company encourages employees more to participate in the decision-making process and their incentives system, promotion system, and disciplinary systems were found more satisfying to employees compared to the systems applied in the public company. The study came up with recommendations directed to the management of the public company in order to increase employees' satisfaction and thereby increase company competitiveness against the fast growing private sector in Egypt.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book began as an exploration of collaborative work orga nizations. We knew about people in various occupations who had gotten together to form organizations of equals to man age the settings within which they did their work. Among these organizations were a teacher-controlled public school, a fishermen's cooperative, a potters' studio, a public-interest advocacy group, and an architectural firm. We wondered how these groups functioned, and whether and how they contributed to making work satisfying for the individuals in them. These groups were, of course, pretty small potatoes, but it seemed to us that they provided a way to an understanding of some much larger current issues. Worker satisfaction has surfaced as an issue of current concern and has been repre sented in research documenting the growing expectations that the members of our society have of their work experi ence. More workers are more educated now than ever before, and more and more people seem to look to work as a personal outlet, rather than just a source of income. We saw our small, egalitarian work organizations as providing settings in which people were especially likely to v vi PREFACE find work satisfying. We wanted to know both the organiza tional conditions for satisfying work and the conditions un der which collaborative work organizations could keep func tioning. Since the sociological literature on work satisfaction tends to revolve around issues of autonomy and control, we sought out settings in which workers had maximized autono my and control.
