Book Introduction to Art Therapy

Download or read book Introduction to Art Therapy written by Judith A. Rubin and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2009-08-05 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Art Therapy: Sources and Resources, is the thoroughly updated and revised second edition of Judith Rubin’s landmark 1999 text, the first to describe the history of art in both assessment and therapy, and to clarify the differences between artists or teachers who provide "therapeutic" art activities, psychologists or social workers who request drawings, and those who are trained as art therapists to do a kind of work which is similar, but qualitatively different. This new edition contains downloadable resources with over 400 still images and 250 edited video clips for much richer illustration than is possible with figures alone; an additional chapter describing the work that art therapists do; and new material on education with updated information on standards, ethics, and informing others. To further make the information accessible to practitioners, students, and teachers, the author has included a section on treatment planning and evaluation, an updated list of resources – selected professional associations and proceedings – references, expanded citations, and clinical vignettes and illustrations. Three key chapters describe and expand the work that art therapists do: "People We Help," deals with all ages; "Problems We Treat," focuses on different disorders and disabilities; and "Places We Practice," reflects the expansion of art therapy beyond its original home in psychiatry. The author’s own introduction to the therapeutic power of art – as a person, a worker, and a parent – will resonate with both experienced and novice readers alike. Most importantly, however, this book provides a definition of art therapy that contains its history, diversity, challenges, and accomplishments.

Book Self esteem Reflected in Human Figure Drawings by Learning Disabled Children

Download or read book Self esteem Reflected in Human Figure Drawings by Learning Disabled Children written by Andre Powell and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study, human figure drawings scored using the Koppitz's (1968) emotional indicators were correlated with self-esteem measured using the Self-Perception Profile for Learning Disabled Students (SPP-LD; Renick & Harter, 1988). It was hypothesized that the number of emotional indicators would correlate negatively with self-concept as measured by the SPP-LD. Participants were fourteen 3rd and 4th grade males and females ranging in age from eight to eleven from a special education program. The participants completed the SPP-LD questionnaire and draw a human figure in a single group session. Results showed no statisically significant relationship between the number of emotional indicators present and SPP-LD scores.

Book Relationship Between Emotional Indicators in Children s Drawings and Teacher related Behavior

Download or read book Relationship Between Emotional Indicators in Children s Drawings and Teacher related Behavior written by Andrea Fenn and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Projective drawings are often used by psychologists and art therapists to assess children's emotions and behaviors. However, these procedures still need to be validated against other measures. This study examined the relationship between the Emotional Indicators scale of the Koppitz Human Figure Drawing test (HFD) and the observed behaviors reported by teachers using Achenbach's Teacher Report Form (TRF) in a sample of 33 school-aged children. The scores of the HFD and the total problem scores of the TRF correlated significantly (r = .50) supporting the validity of the Koppitz emotional indicators. These data, which were collected from well-adjusted children, will be helpful to future studies of clinically disturbed children to use as a basis for comparison.

Book excerpt: Art therapy has grown so fast in the last few decades that it has barely been able to keep up with itself. Most books in the field have represented the author's interpretations of practicing art therapy. As art therapy continues to grow - not only in psychology but in other relevant fields - an overview of the field is needed. This introduction to art therapy, Art Therapy: An Introductionbroadly outlines the history and current state of the field, the mechanics and techniques used and the ethics and responsibilities of this therapeutic strategy. This survey of the field of art therapy is the first of its kind. Students, teachers, counselors, social workers, practitioners and others will benefit from the information presented in this book. In addition, the author provides pictures showing examples of artwork from children and adults as well as pictures of art therapists in action.
