Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book of Ruth is among the most famous and most frequently read in the Old Testament. Its themes of love, faithfulness, and redemption have resonated within both Judaism and Christianity from generation to generation. But is there more to this book than an encouraging story? Is there more to the characters of Ruth, Naomi, and Boaz than models of faith and virtue? "To the Tenth Generation" explores the story of Ruth both on its own and as part of a much larger Biblical story. Isaac McPhee urges the reader to see Ruth, and God's redemptive works through these characters in light of other stories, particularly the story of Judah and Tamar in Genesis 19, the stories of the final chapters of Judges, and others. By taking a broader "Biblical Theology" approach to Ruth, these four short chapters are granted new life and new meaning. Better understanding the parts of God's story is the first step to better understanding and better appreciating the whole. There are countless books and studies on Ruth, but "To the Tenth Generation" offers a fresh perspective on well-trodden territory. This is a perspective that urges the reader to look both forward and backward in Scripture, asking questions about how God works in and through His people, how He saves, how He rescues, how He restores, and the lengths He will go for those He would redeem.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Return of Judah is a story of humanity that is often detached from the perception of biblical characters. Judah, the fourth son of Jacob, is disgruntled by the chaotic nature of his household and so decided to leave his home for greener pastures with his Adullamite friend Hirah. Unknown to him, he is the carrier of the messianic seed which must be preserved till the lawgiver, Yeshua, is born. His friend, Hirah, takes him deep into the heathen hinterlands of Canaan, and he ends up marrying Bathshua, a native of Canaan, which was taboo to his family as God's chosen people. One error leads to another, and he gets entangled in an incestuous affair with his daughter-in-law, Tamar. Yet by providence, God's guiding arm was working behind the scenes to redeem him despite his circumstance. He admits his guilt of treating Tamar unfairly by denying her the right of marrying Shelar. The one truth he managed to tell opens the door to his redemption and restoration. Judah regains his honour and love from his estranged parents and brethren.

Book From Repentance to Redemption

Download or read book From Repentance to Redemption written by Jeremiah Unterman and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 1987-12-01 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The relationship of repentance to redemption in Jeremiah is a problem compounded of authenticity and redaction. From an intensive analysis of the relevant texts and a review of the secondary literature, Unterman argues that the dominant trend of scholarship is methodologically flawed and biased. The Jeremianic texts dealt with in this study represent concepts and vocabulary which influence or logically precede Ezekiel and II Isaiah, fit the historical background of the late 7th and 6th centuries BCE, and relate to, but are essentially different from, the literature known as Deuteronomistic. Jeremiah's thought on the relationship of repentance to redemption is to be understood from the historical and ideological background of the prophet himself. This thought progressed through three stages: in Jeremiah's early prophecies on redemption human repentance and divine mercy are equal factors; between 597 and 587 repentance plays a secondary role to YHWH's mercy; during the period of the destruction of Jerusalem the prophet's despair at the people's inability to repent results in the elimination of the demand for repentance, so that redemption would now depend solely on God's mercy. Included in this study are excursuses on the prophets Amos, Hosea, Ezekiel and II Isaiah, which help to place Jeremiah's thought in historical perspective.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This popular textbook regards the Pentateuch as a literary whole, with a single theme that binds it together. The overarching theme is the partial fulfilment of the promises to the patriarchs. Though the method of the book is holistic, the origin and growth of the theme is also explored using the methods of traditional source analysis. An important chapter explores the theological function of the Pentateuch both in the community for which the Pentateuch was first composed and in our own time. For this second, enlarged edition, the author has written an Epilogue reassessing the theme of the Pentateuch from a more current postmodern perspective.

Download or read book The Lion of Judah written by Rabbi Kirt A. Schneider and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If Jesus is a Jew, why is there a wedge between Christianity and Judaism? If Jews and Christians both believe in the same God, why is there such division? Why is history littered with deathly accounts of this division, from the early Jewish persecution of Christians to the Crusades' slaughtering of Jews? The Lion of Judah unpacks the roots of this division, showing how jealousy, theology, the law, and the integration of Gentile believers into what was once a predominantly Jewish early church contributed to the schism. It then goes on to reveal how Jesus magnificently fulfilled every word in the Bible. Readers will discover why the Lion of Judah is the rightful Lord and King of all people--Jews, Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Sikhs, atheists, and the rest of creation. This book will help Christians understand the history of Christianity and Judaism, get into greater alignment with God's plan of redemption, be better equipped to share the gospel with Jewish people, and become more sensitive to and appreciative of their Hebraic heritage.

Book The Judas War

  • Pages : 512 pages

Download or read book The Judas War written by S P Laurie and published by . This book was released on 2020-09-18 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christ 700 BC. One people, two kingdoms-one betrayed the other to total destruction. The Christ myth is ancient. The crucifixion account in the gospels relates to events that took place hundreds of years before the supposed time of Jesus. Such are the conclusions of this book which will revolutionise the way we see both Christianity and Judaism. The Judas War uncovers the story of a traumatic conflict in which a Judean king committed a desperate act that led to the annihilation of the sister kingdom of Israel. The surviving nation of Judah was racked by guilt, its population swelled by an enormous influx of refugees. To control a rebellious people, the king and priestly establishment centralised all religion in the Jerusalem temple. But the Judas War lived on through a dissident minority who preserved the bitter memory of the betrayal. The mainstream wrote the scriptures to deflect from their own shame. The dissidents told a very different story. The Judas War takes the reader on an epic journey to the real ancient Israel as revealed by modern archaeology as well as the original texts. It reveals a cosmos ruled by fallen angels; a religious worldview traced back to the Canaanite origins of the Jews. It shows how the unfolding tragedy on earth was explained by a tragedy in heaven: the divine king of the Jews, the Christ, had been crucified by the angelic rulers, the archons. He had been betrayed by the Jerusalem establishment who were represented by the fictional character of Judas Iscariot. After the defeat and exile of Judah, the Christ myth was expanded under a calendar of cosmic days ("the Almanac") to encompass all humanity. The Almanac set out the complete timeline of the world, past, present and future, as a symmetrical whole. It predicted that the Christ would be resurrected from the dead on "the third day" to defeat the archons and establish his new kingdom of heaven. Hundreds of years later in the first century, a female shaman announced that the time had come- Christ had appeared to her... The book reconstructs the Almanac from surviving sources and shows how it explains the gospel crucifixion account. From the strange timing of the crucifixion day to details such as the severed ear and the young man who has his sheet torn away, all come from the Almanac and the Judas War. Going further, the book uncovers a belief that Christ had come to earth three times in three different forms. And how as "the child of seven days" he revealed the shattering secret that would overturn the relationship between God and humanity. S.P. Laurie is the author of The Rock and the Tower and The Thomas Code.

Book Receiving the 12 Blessings of Israel

Download or read book Receiving the 12 Blessings of Israel written by Paul Thangiah and published by Chosen Books. This book was released on 2016-10-18 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unique, Fascinating Look at How God's Promises to Israel Apply to Today We read throughout the Bible about God blessing his people, but most of us don't realize that these blessings are still meant for today--and for us. In this accessible study, pastor and international leader Paul Thangiah connects ancient biblical texts to modern-day life. Exploring Jacob's final blessings over his twelve sons in Genesis and Moses' parting blessings to the twelve tribes in Deuteronomy, Thangiah sheds light on the history of those on whom these blessings were bestowed. With keen insight, he examines the background of each of Jacob's sons, the significance of each name and personal situation, and what the Bible says about his descendants. Then, he shows how each of the twelve tribes saw the fulfillment of both Jacob's and Moses' prophetic blessings. Yet these blessings didn't cease at the end of the Old Testament, says Thangiah, revealing how they were powerfully and ultimately fulfilled in Jesus. You will be encouraged and inspired to discover how God's promises to his people extend beyond Israel to include all who've been grafted in through Christ--and how you can still enjoy these prophetic blessings today.
