Book The Reconstructed School Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Reconstructed School Classic Reprint written by Francis Bail Pearson and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-04 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Reconstructed School In our school processes there are many constants which have general recognition as such by thoughtful people. On the other hand, there are many variables which should be subjected to close scrutiny to the end that they may be made to yield forth the largest possible returns upon the investment of time and effort. These phases of school procedure constitute the real problem in the work of reconstruction, and the following pages represent an effort to point the way toward larger and better results in the realm of these variables. In general, the aims and purposes of the worker determine the quality of the work done. If, therefore, this volume succeeds in stimulating teachers to elevate the goals of their endeavors, it will have accomplished its purpose. (Francis Bail) Pearson When people come to think alike, they tend to act alike; unison in thinking begets unison in action. It is often said that the man and wife who have spent years together have grown to resemble each other; but the resemblance is probably in actions rather than in looks; the fact is that they have had common goals of thinking throughout the many years they have lived together and so have come to act in unison. Book My School Days Reconstruction Experiences in the South Classic Reprint

Download or read book My School Days Reconstruction Experiences in the South Classic Reprint written by Wade H. Harris and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-10 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from My School Days, Reconstruction Experiences in the South The names of the boys figuring in these pages are real. There is small risk. Those that are not dead are too old to fight. It is not a book of fiction, but a narrative of fact; therefore, the use of near-names, - or fictitious appellations whereby the curious reader familiar with the events of the period with which it deals might puzzle out identities, - would be foreign to the intent of the writer. His purpose here is the preservation of some memories of conditions under which the children of the days that immediately followed the Civil War obtained their edution, and, too, that by incidental narrative the schoolboys and schoolgirls of the present day may have a contrast by which they may come to a better appreciation of the advantages by which they are so abundantly surrounded. The author's hope is that the boys and girls, - his contemporaries, - may derive some entertainment from these pages. He will, because of the form of book's dedication, invite a kindly reception for at least one class - the youths who sturdily trod the rugged path of post-bellum education under the guidance of the most original and the most practical educator of those days, the late B. F. Rogers. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. (Francis Bail) Pearson A Preliminary Survey of the Task Before the School When people come to think alike, they tend to act alike; unison in thinking begets unison in action. It is often said that the man and wife who have spent years together have grown to resemble each other; but the resemblance is probably in actions rather than in looks; the fact is that they have had common goals of thinking throughout the many years they have lived together and so have come to act in unison. The wise teacher often adjusts difficult situations in her school by inducing the pupils to think toward a common goal. In their zeal for a common enterprise the children forget their differences and attain unison in action as the result of their unison in thinking. The school superintendent knows full well that if he can bring teachers, pupils, and parents to think toward a common goal, he will soon have unity of action. When people catch step mentally, they do the same physically, and as they move forward along the paths of their common thinking, their ways converge until, in time, they find themselves walking side by side in amiable and agreeable converse. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Sapphire, 1921: Fassifern School Fassifern is a Gaelic word, meaning House among the alders. The founder of the school while a teacher in a large boarding school noticed that many very young girls were brought there who needed more individual attention than could be given them in a large school. She conceived the idea of establishing a school so limited in numbers that each girl might receive the particular teaching, care, and attention her case demanded. Lincolnton, North Carolina, was selected as a suitable and conveniently located town; and a hillside overlooking the river was the chosen site of the home school. Book School Records an Experiment Classic Reprint

Download or read book School Records an Experiment Classic Reprint written by Mary S. Marot and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2019-02-11 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from School Records-an Experiment A mere list of subject matter topics is of use neither to a new teacher nor to parents. Catalogues of private schools are obliged to add photographs to show the children's active use of the subject presented. The actual response of the children is needed to tell the tale. Tradi tional subject matter terms do not describe these reactions. History the Revolutionary War gives no real information. The following notes show what the children did: The class paid three visits to the ruins of an old fort. They read up local history between visits, and reconstructed the positions of the two armies on the spot, comparing their respective advantages and disadvantages. These comparisons unexpectedly led to the discovery that the course of the stream close by had changed since revolutionary days, and the discussions that followed formed a new topic which required a good deal of research by the children in geography books. The teacher of a new class cannot afford to neglect the information about the class contained in the preceding teacher's notes. A teacher of eight-year-old children did not look up what their teacher of the year before had written about them. Her own notes criticised their slowness in arithmetic. She said she had tried having a match, which the children were not familiar with. In this case it was the teacher who was not familiar with her children. The notes of their previous teacher showed that they had delighted in all sorts of arithmetic games and matches the year before. When, in January, the second teacher read the previous year's notes of these children she frankly admitted that she her self. Had confused and retarded them by not finding out what they had done before. She had asked for quantitative reports, - how many, how much of each kind of subject matter, and for some time she was not interested in concrete reports Of the children's responses, or how children use material, but only in what she or a preceding teacher had presented. Important facts to get into a record are those which tell whether the subject noted has developed spontaneous activity on the part of the children, and what conditions, or what treatment of the subject by the teacher helped to bring spontaneous response from the children. The notes of a teacher of seven-year-old children show their active use Of number and the spontaneous drill they gave each other in order to achieve a group response. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Turning Points: Or the Boys of Dr. Starbrook's School HE long hours of the June afternoon were draw in g toward a close, and Harry Belmont still sat poring over his books. The disordered state of his room, and the condition of his hair, told a tale of discontent and unrest. To any one acquainted with Harry's usually cheerful manner, and fastidiousness in dress, it betokened that something beyond the every-day school perplexities of a boy's life was making its impression upon him. The slowly fading light at last roused the boy, and he sat looking drearily out over the distant hills, each moment assuming a grayer and more forbidding aspect. At last, as if their color proved a sympathy with his thoughts, he muttered, forlornly. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
