Book I The Real Self

Book excerpt: The Self of each of us has a vehicle of expression which we call the Mind, but which vehicle is much larger and far more complex than we are apt to realize. Our Self is greater than we know; it has peaks above, and lowlands below the plateau of our conscious experience. That which we know as the "conscious mind" is not the Soul. The Soul is not a part of that which we know in consciousness, but, on the contrary, that which we know in consciousness is but a small part of the Soul—the conscious vehicle of a greater Self, or "I." This book has endeavored to bring into realization within your mind the consciousness of the "I"; its independence from the body; its immortality; its invincibility and invulnerability; the superiority of the "I" over the mind, as well as over the body. The "I" is a Center of Consciousness in that great One Reality or Spirit, which is behind and back of all Life and Existence, the Center of which Reality or Existence, is the Absolute or God; that the sense of Reality that is inherent in the "I," is really the reflection of the sense of Reality inherent in the Whole—the Great "I" of the Universe.

Book Real Influence

Download or read book Real Influence written by Mark Goulston and published by AMACOM Div American Mgmt Assn. This book was released on 2013 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People won't put up with being "sold" anymore. If they sense they are being pushed, their guard goes up-and even if they do comply, lingering resentment undermines the relationship...maybe forever. Yet, most books on influence still portray it as something you "do to" someone else to get your way. That out-of-date approach invites resistance or cynicism from those who recognize the techniques. Manipulative tactics might occasionally wear down a colleague's or client's resistance, but they fail to produce the mutual trust that sustains successful relationships. In short, they just won't work in our sophisticated, post-selling world. In this groundbreaking book, authors Mark Goulston and John Ullmen reveal a new model for authentic influence-the kind that creates a strong initial connection and survives long after agreement has been reached. Based on listening, genuine engagement and commitment to win-win outcomes, Real Influence provides a powerful four-step method you can use to: * Examine your priorities * Learn about the key players and what they need * Earn their attention and motivate them to hear more * Add value with your questions and actions Complete with examples of the steps in action and insights from real-world "power influencers," this one-of-a-kind guide shows that being straight with everyone means winning for all. www.getrealinfluence.com

Book excerpt: "Church as I know it usually leaves deep parts of me dormant, unawakened, and untouched. I don't much like going. So, what now?" What's happening to the Church? Why are so many people who for decades have been faithful, steady churchgoers (and others who want to start going to church but can't seem to find one that meets their needs) losing interest in even attending church, let alone getting involved? What is fundamentally wrong with the "types" of churches (Seeker, Bible, Emergent, Liberal, Evangelical) that dot the religious landscape? Larry Crabb believes it is time to rethink the entire foundation and focus of what we know today as church -- everything we're doing and are wanting to see happen. In his most honest and vulnerable book to date, the author reveals his own struggles in this area and then offers a compelling vision of why God designed us to live in community with Him and others, and what the church he wants to be a part of looks like.

Almost everything about Wallace is at odds with the Midwestern university town where he is working uneasily toward a biochem degree. An introverted young man from Alabama, black and queer, he has left behind his family without escaping the long shadows of his childhood. For reasons of self-preservation, Wallace has enforced a wary distance even within his own circle of friends—some dating each other, some dating women, some feigning straightness. But over the course of a late-summer weekend, a series of confrontations with colleagues, and an unexpected encounter with an ostensibly straight, white classmate, conspire to fracture his defenses while exposing long-hidden currents of hostility and desire within their community. Real Life is a novel of profound and lacerating power, a story that asks if it’s ever really possible to overcome our private wounds, and at what cost.

Book I Don t Want to Talk About It

Download or read book I Don t Want to Talk About It written by Terrence Real and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 1999-03-11 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A bestseller for over 20 years, I Don’t Want to Talk About It is a groundbreaking and hopeful guide to understanding and destigmatizing male depression, essential not only for men who may be suffering but for the people who love them. Twenty years of experience treating men and their families has convinced psychotherapist Terrence Real that depression is a silent epidemic in men—that men hide their condition from family, friends, and themselves to avoid the stigma of depression’s “un-manliness.” Problems that we think of as typically male—difficulty with intimacy, workaholism, alcoholism, abusive behavior, and rage—are really attempts to escape depression. And these escape attempts only hurt the people men love and pass their condition on to their children. This groundbreaking book is the “pathway out of darkness” that these men and their families seek. Real reveals how men can unearth their pain, heal themselves, restore relationships, and break the legacy of abuse. He mixes penetrating analysis with compelling tales of his patients and even his own experiences with depression as the son of a violent, depressed father and the father of two young sons.

This book was released on 2022-04-26T22:59:00Z with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 The issue of men’s depression is a difficult one to deal with, as it is seen as unmanly. It is a condition that is both shame-filled and shameful, and yet it is extremely impactful. #2 Depression is a disorder of feeling, and yet men are often reluctant to acknowledge it. Men and women often express depression differently, and their pathways toward it are distinct. #3 The traditional socialization of boys and girls hurts them both, each in particular, complementary ways. Girls, and later women, tend to internalize pain. Boys, and later men, tend to externalize pain. Depression in men, unless it is dealt with, tends to be passed along. #4 I had been treating David and Elaine for close to six months. Elaine first wanted me to see the two of them, not for Chad’s sake but for the sake of their marriage. After twenty years, she felt miserable alone. David was good-natured and helpful, but she felt like he wasn’t there.

Two books provide for a greater platform to describe the same thing. One looks great on the shelf, while the less fancy copy may attract the prudent student. Enlightenment for 20 bucks! A Model of Creation shows us a new way to look at Creation, the universe and the formation of life. We are liberated from a narrow, 4-dimensional view of the world with its assumption of bigbang and antimatter as the foundation to its evolution. We are lifted to a clearer vision where mass is recycled on a continuous basis and therefore by definition not real. What is not now does not exist since reality does not change! Creation is real. It is recessional velocity which drives and shapes the universe.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can you be a hero...if society doesn't see you as a person? Nubia has always been a little bit...different. As a baby she showcased Amazonian-like strength by pushing over a tree to rescue her neighbor's cat. But despite her having similar abilities, the world has no problem telling her that she's no Wonder Woman. And even if she were, they wouldn't want her. Every time she comes to the rescue, she's reminded of how people see her: as a threat. Her moms do their best to keep her safe, but Nubia can't deny the fire within her, even if she's a little awkward about it sometimes. Even if it means people assume the worst. When Nubia's best friend, Quisha, is threatened by a boy who thinks he owns the town, Nubia will risk it all--her safety, her home, and her crush on that cute kid in English class--to become the hero society tells her she isn't. From the witty and powerful voice behind A Blade So Black, and with endearing and expressive art by Robyn Smith, comes a vital story for today about equality, identity, and kicking it with your squad.

Book Seeing Degree Zero

    Book Details:
  • Author : Bishop Ryan Bishop
  • Publisher : Edinburgh University Press
  • Release : 2019-05-03
  • ISBN : 1474431445
  • Pages : 556 pages

Download or read book Seeing Degree Zero written by Bishop Ryan Bishop and published by Edinburgh University Press. This book was released on 2019-05-03 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the fields of literature and the visual arts, 'zero degree' represents a neutral aesthetic situated in response to, and outside of, the dominant cultural order. Taking Roland Barthes' 1953 book Writing Degree Zero as just one starting point, this volume examines the historical, theoretical and visual impact of the term and draws directly upon the editors' ongoing collaboration with artist and writer Victor Burgin. The book is composed of key chapters by the editors and Burgin, a series of collaborative texts with Burgin and four commissioned essays concerned with the relationship between Barthes and Burgin in the context of the spectatorship of art. It includes an in-depth dialogue regarding Burgin's long-term reading of Barthes and a lengthy image-text, offering critical exploration of the Image (in echo of earlier theories of the Text). Also included are translations of two projections works by Burgin, 'Belledonne' and 'Prairie', which work alongside and inform the collected essays. Overall, the book provides a combined reading of both Barthes and Burgin, which in turn leads to new considerations of visual culture, the spectatorship of art and the political aesthetic.
