Book Bretherick s Handbook of Reactive Chemical Hazards

Download or read book Bretherick s Handbook of Reactive Chemical Hazards written by L. Bretherick and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-10-27 with total page 2058 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bretherick's Handbook of Reactive Chemical Hazards, Fourth Edition, has been prepared and revised to give access to a wide and up-to-date selection of documented information to research students, practicing chemists, safety officers, and others concerned with the safe handling and use of reactive chemicals. This will allow ready assessment of the likely potential for reaction hazards which may be associated with an existing or proposed chemical compound or reaction system. A secondary, longer-term purpose is to present the information in a way which will, as far as possible, bring out the causes of, and interrelationships between, apparently disconnected facts and incidents. This handbook includes all information which had become available to the author by April 1989 on the reactivity hazards of individual elements or compounds, either alone or in combination. It begins with an introductory chapter that provides an overview of the complex subject of reactive chemical hazards, drawing attention to the underlying principles and to some practical aspects of minimizing such hazards. This is followed by two sections: Section 1 provides detailed information on the hazardous properties of individual chemicals, either alone or in combination with other compounds; the entries in Section 2 are of two distinct types. The first type of entry gives general information on the hazardous behavior of some recognizably discrete classes or groups of the 4,600 or so individual compounds for which details are given in Section 1. The second type of entry concerns reactive hazard topics, techniques, or incidents which have a common theme or pattern of behavior involving compounds of several different groups, so that no common structural feature exists for the compounds involved.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental forensics is emerging and evolving into a recognized scientific discipline with numerous applications, especially regarding chlorinated solvents. This unique book provides the reader with a concise compilation of information regarding the use of environmental forensic techniques for age dating and identification of the source of a chlorinated solvent release. Concentrating on the five commonly encountered chlorinated solvents (perchloroethylene, trichloroethylene, methyl chloroform, carbon tetrachloride and CFC-113), forensic opportunities applicable to each are presented including the use of stabilizers, manufacturing impurities, surrogate chemicals and physical measurements and degradation products as diagnostic indicators. Detailed historical chronology of the applications of the solvents and specific chapters devoted to dry cleaning and vapor degreasing equipment are included as are generic forensic approaches. Forming a basis for further ideas in the evolution of environmental forensic techniques, Chlorinated Solvents will be an indispensable reference tool for researchers, regulators and analysts in the field.

Download or read book Halogen Chemistry written by Viktor Gutmann and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Halogen Chemistry, Volume 3 focuses on advancement in the study of halogens. Composed of contributions of authors, the book focuses on discussions on halides that contain multicentred metal-metal bonds. The discussions are initialized with an introduction; identification of factors that influence metal-metal bond formation; and compounds that contain multi-centred metal-metal bonds. The text also looks at the nature of metal-halogen bonds and the metal-halogen vibrational frequencies. Numerical representations and tabulations are presented as well. The book also looks at the halides of niobium and tantalum. Concerns include fluorine, chlorine, bromine, and iodine compounds. The compilation further considers pentahalides of transition metals and halide chemistry of chromium, molybdenum, and tungsten. The book closes with discussions on halogen chemistry of actinides and halogeno metal carbonyls and related compounds. Covered areas include trivalent, tetravalent, pentavalent, and hexavalent actinides, and structures and reactions of halogeno metal carbonyls. The compilation is a valuable source of information for readers interested in the study of halogens.

Book Organic Functional Group Preparations

Download or read book Organic Functional Group Preparations written by Bozzano G Luisa and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 674 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organic Chemistry, Second Edition, Volume I: Organic Functional Group Preparations provides a convenient and useful source of reliable preparative procedures for the most common functional groups. This book discusses the preparations of each group that are subdivided into different reaction types, including elimination, condensation, and oxidation and reduction reactions. Organized into 21 chapters, this edition begins with an overview of the reduction methods that allow the preparation of hydrocarbon of known structure. This text then explores the acid-catalyzed of thermal elimination of water from alcohols, which is a common laboratory method for the preparation of olefins. Other chapters consider the two most significant synthetic methods for introducing an acetylenic group into the molecule, which involve the elimination of hydrogen halides. This book discusses as well the importance of oxidation reactions. The final chapter deals with sulfonation reactions. This book is a valuable resource for organic chemists and research workers.
