Book Buster S Book

Download or read book Buster S Book written by Donald Junkins and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2012-11-17 with total page 642 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing insight in a familys history against the backdrop of major world wars, Busters Book offers a collection of more than a thousand letters exchanged during the twentieth century as young men provided service to their country. In this memoir, author Donald Junkins has compiled letters, diaries, interviews, recollections, and photographs of the familys participants in both world wars and the Korean and Vietnam wars. This fascinating historical record includes the stories of a variety of escapades: from single-handedly opening an eight-year-old Nazi prison camp; to B-24 air forays from New Guinea in which an aerial gunner shot down two Japanese Zero planes; and to the rescue in Korea of wounded men stalled in a jeep in the middle of a freezing river that culminated in the awarding of the Silver Star. Busters Book reflects both the lives of a middle-class American family during these years and the daily activities of two generations of young American men at war.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At 84, John T. Finnegan has written his first novel, and what a story! This beautiful and intensely personal narrative will tug at your heartstrings. Finnegan's book contains passages about his childhood, World War II, his marriage, and his experiences and battles with the Railroad Union. In his chapter titled Angel, he regales good times and bad in a local bar, baring his soul about his life and what he's learned along the way. From 1935 to the present, Finnegan touches on his life's ups and downs with grace and humor. Commenting on sensitive subjects such as the civil rights movement, rocky relationships, Catholicism, Union antics and rules, the sadness and joy of raising children, and alcoholism, Finnegan pulls no punches. With brutal honesty and the wisdom that comes from living through harsh times, Everyman's Story is not for the faint of heart. It is a gripping, candid and a wonderfully written slice-of-life account that baby boomers and the Greatest Generation will recognize and deeply appreciate. John T. Finnegan has written a three-act musical with eight original songs and four original dance numbers; two children's stories; one short story; and a how-to tennis book titled My Serve. Download or read book A Bomber Pilot S Story written by Robert P. Neilson and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2016-09-15 with total page 833 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flying a B-17 Flying Fortress with the Fifteenth Air Force out of Foggia, Italy, Lt. George H. Neilson describes the harrowing experiences of his twenty-eight combat missions as well as the ups and downs of life in the US Army Air Corps from enlistment to discharge (194345). Blending selections of his fathers letters to home and memoirs he recorded a half century later with documented background history, the younger Neilson tells the saga of the son of a Boston widow as he confronts the rigors of pilot-officer training and combat service in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations during the final six months of World War II in Europe. George depicts the humorous and mundane sides of army life as well as the terror-filled moments during bomb runs over targets in Austria, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Yugoslavia, and Austria as antiaircraft flak bursts battered the aircraft. Neilsons daily chronicles juxtapose moments when life and death hung in the balance, such as when he landed his crippled Fort in the Adriatic Sea, with the unexpected moments of splendor, such as when he dined in luxury on the Isle of Capri at a castle owned by the royal family of Italy. Flying in formation through clouds so thick that the plane thirty feet off his wing was invisible, George received the Distinguished Flying Cross for his ability as a skilled instrument pilot. He recounts youthful escapades on duty-free hours and the tales of life in Foggias mud-bound tent city in the spur of Italy. It includes the stirring story of his visit to a field hospital where his brother, a captain in the infantry, was recovering from a bullet wound incurred in the fighting in the Apennine Mountain campaign. Finally, the story tells of World War IIs fiery end and how he unknowingly worked on the secret research project to develop the atomic bomb in a lab at MIT before enlistment. For the student of history and aviation and its role in the Allied victory over Hitlers nefarious Reich, this microhistory will not disappoint.

Smitten, he decides he must have her as his own. Unfortunately, his arch nemesis--his nefarious cousin Anthony--has already laid claim to her. A war for her affection ensues. When the smoke clears, King is left serving a life sentence in a Federal prison, while Anthony is elevated to Syndicate underboss, ranked second only to his father, the Syndicate's new "Capo di tutti Capi," Boss of all Bosses. But Don Falcone is a crafty tactician himself. He has kept a favor on the books for over fifty years, and when he finally calls it in, King emerges from prison a free man. Read on and see what it takes... TO BE A KING!

Book The Messerschmitt 210 410 Story

Download or read book The Messerschmitt 210 410 Story written by Jan Forsgren and published by Fonthill Media. This book was released on 2019-09-17 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1938, the Reichsluftfahrtsministerium (German Air Ministry, RLM), issued a requirement for a new twin-engine heavy fighter to replace the Me 110. This type of combat aeroplane was known as Zerstörer (Destroyer). The first prototype flew in September 1939. The Me 210 proved very difficult to fly, having numerous deficiencies. It was said to be deadlier to its crews than the enemy. Nevertheless, the Luftwaffe ordered the Me 210 into production. Operational trials began in late 1941, but it was eventually acknowledged that the aircraft had to be redesigned in order to be accepted into Luftwaffe service. The whole Me 210 debacle proved a huge scandal. A redesigned variant, the Me 410 began to reach Luftwaffe units in mid-1943. Even if the Me 210 and Me 410 were similar in appearance, the latter had to be redesigned to avoid the extremely poor reputation of the Me 210. The Me 410 proved a quite successful aeroplane, being used as a heavy fighter and for reconnaissance duties. Its closest Allied equivalent was the British DH 98 Mosquito. More than 1,500 Me 210/410s were built in Germany and Hungary, with only two Me 410s surviving today.

Book Radioman

Download or read book Radioman written by Carol Edgemon Hipperson and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 2008-10-28 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radioman is the biography of Ray Daves, a noncommissioned officer in the U.S. Navy and an eyewitness to World War II. It is based on the author's handwritten notes from a series of interviews that began on the eighty-second birthday of the combat veteran and gives a first-person account of the world's first battles between aircraft carriers. Ray Daves grew up on a small farm near Little Rock, Arkansas. Impatient with school and the prospect of becoming a farmer like his father, he joined the CCC and went from there to the navy, where he learned to use the radio to send messages, and soon found himself in the momentary peacefulness of Pearl Harbor. Most of America's World War II veterans were not in uniform when the war began. Daves is one of the few who was. He could also tell what was happening on the bridge of the famous carrier Yorktown before it went down and of the secretive relationship between the Russian and American forces in Alaska at the time. Carol Edgemon Hipperson's discovery of this one man's inspiring story is shared with great skill and energy. A must-read for those looking for a personal, intimate account of the events of this tumultuous time in American history.
