Book The Questionable Methods of Charity Advertising

Download or read book The Questionable Methods of Charity Advertising written by Hannah Martin-Singh and published by . This book was released on 2015-03-05 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2014 in the subject Communications - Journalism, Journalism Professions, grade: 1st, University of Leeds (Leeds Trinity University), course: Media Research, language: English, abstract: This paper is an evaluation of the techniques that large organisations may use to influence members of the public into donating, exploring how often how often these practices are used and if this format is actually ethical. The purpose is to identify the underlying moralities of charity advertisements in modernity and to ultimately decide whether such mode of practice should be in some way altered or rectified. The methods used to collate empirical audience research are both qualitative and quantitative approaches collated to form part of the main results. It builds on previous work of other academics adding to their research. My main aim is to identify whether positive or negative video advertisements that have more of an effect on the viewer and to classify what type of effect these variable tableaux actually have. Previous research has been undertaken in this way through the form of imagery (Deborah A. Small 2009), as a result this research develops the idea further but through a different medium to fill a gap extant academic knowledge.

Book The Subtle Problems of Charity

Download or read book The Subtle Problems of Charity written by Jane Addams and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2020-12-08 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Subtle Problems of Charity by Jane Addams is about the intricacies of caregiving work and the complications of helping others. Excerpt: "We find in ourselves the longing for a wider union than that of family or class, and we say that we have come to include all men in our hopes, but we fail to realize that all men are hoping, and are part of the same movement of which we are a part. Many of the difficulties in philanthropy come from an unconscious division of the world into the philanthropists and those to be helped. It is all assumption of two classes, and against this class assumption our democratic training revolts as soon as we begin to act upon it."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: So long as large segments of humanity are suffering chronic poverty and are dying from treatable diseases, organized giving can save or enhance millions of lives. With the law providing little guidance, ethics has a crucial role to play in ensuring that the philanthropic practices of individuals, foundations, NGOs, governments, and international agencies are morally sound and effective. In Giving Well: The Ethics of Philanthropy, an accomplished trio of editors bring together an international group of distinguished philosophers, social scientists, lawyers and practitioners to identify and address the most urgent moral questions arising today in the practice of philanthropy. The topics discussed include the psychology of giving, the reasons for and against a duty to give, the accountability of NGOs and foundations, the questionable marketing practices of some NGOs, the moral priorities that should inform NGO decisions about how to target and design their projects, the good and bad effects of aid, and the charitable tax deduction along with the water's edge policy now limiting its reach. This ground-breaking volume can help bring our practice of charity closer to meeting the vital needs of the millions worldwide who depend on voluntary contributions for their very lives.

Book Social Work Values and Ethics

Download or read book Social Work Values and Ethics written by Frederic G. Reamer and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2024-05-28 with total page 507 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For decades, teachers and practitioners have turned to Frederic G. Reamer’s Social Work Values and Ethics as the leading introduction to ethical decision making, dilemmas, and professional conduct in practice. A case-driven, concise, and comprehensive textbook for undergraduate and graduate social work programs, this book surveys the most critical issues for social work practitioners. This sixth edition incorporates significant updates to the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics and discussion of challenging issues related to cultural competency, antiracism, moral injury, human rights, environmental justice, ethical humility, non-Western perspectives on ethics, and practitioner self-care. Reamer also focuses on how social workers should navigate the digital world through discussion of the ethical issues that arise from practitioner use of online services and social networking sites to deliver services, communicate with clients, and provide information to the public, and he examines the standards that protect confidential information transmitted electronically. He highlights potential conflicts between professional ethics and legal guidelines and expands discussions of informed consent, confidentiality and privileged communication, boundaries and dual relationships, documentation, conflicts of interest, and risk management. Conceptually rich and attuned to the complexities of ethical decision making, Social Work Values and Ethics is unique in striking the right balance among history, theory, and practical application.
