Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You don't have to be perfect to do God's work. Look no further than the twelve disciples, whose many weaknesses are forever preserved throughout the pages of the New Testament. Join bestselling author John MacArthur in Twelve Ordinary Men as he draws principles from Christ's careful, hands-on training of the original disciples for today's modern disciple, you! Jesus chose ordinary men--fishermen, tax collectors, political zealots--and turned their weakness into strength, producing greatness from people who were otherwise unremarkable. The twelve disciples weren't the stained-glass saints we imagine. On the contrary, they were truly human, all too prone to mistakes, misstatements, wrong attitudes, lapses of faith, and bitter failure. Simply put, they were flawed people, just like us. But under Jesus' teaching and touch, they became a force that forever changed the world. MacArthur takes you into the inner circle of the disciples--their selection, their training, their personalities, and their incredible impact. As MacArthur took a closer look at the lives of the twelve disciples, he found himself asking difficult questions along the way, including: Why did Jesus pick each of the twelve disciples? How did Jesus teach them everything he could in just eighteen short months? Can the lessons that Jesus taught the disciples can still influence our faith today? In Twelve Ordinary Men, you'll learn that disciples are living proof that God's strength is made perfect in weakness. As you get to know the men who walked with Jesus, you'll see that if he can accomplish his purposes through them, he can do the same through you.

Book Secrets of the Apostles

Download or read book Secrets of the Apostles written by W.C. Hinzie and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2011-09-07 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study describes the lives of the twelve disciples called by Jesus Christ for training, repentance, and transformation into effective and spirit-filled apostles. They were charged with establishing the Church of Jesus Christ in the hostile world of Jewish, Greek, Roman, and many other groups of intense unbelievers. They were laymen, untrained in deep Jewish doctrine but practiced as businessmen and filled with zeal for the Jewish Messiah to return. They wanted to be a part of his new kingdom and expected major roles in ruling Israel. They became the first of many converts to see that the Jews had missed the heart of Gods message and the new message was that they would die to their own minds, wills, and emotional structures and replace it with the will of their Father through the Holy Spirit. Jesus taught them for more than ten thousand hours of practical ministry, teaching, and supernatural endowment during their time together. This is considerably more hours than it takes to achieve a doctorate in theology today. In this time, they were still incapable of standing up to the Jewish authorities, until endued with power from on high at Pentecost. These secrets, which the apostles found in their ministries, will help the disciple who is serious about transforming his or her life and knowledge of the Gospel into effective ministry.

Book The Lost Art of Disciple Making

Download or read book The Lost Art of Disciple Making written by LeRoy Eims and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2009-07-13 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Every believer in Jesus Christ deserves the opportunity of personal nurture and development." says LeRoy Eims. But all too often the opportunity isn't there. We neglect the young Christian in our whirl of programs, church services, and fellowship groups. And we neglect to raise up workers and leaders who can disciple young believers into mature and fruitful Christians. In simple, practical, and biblical terms, LeRoy Eims revives the lost art of disciple making. He explains: - How the early church discipled new Christians - How to meet the basic needs of a growing Christian - How to spot and train potential workers - How to develop mature, godly leaders "True growth takes time and tears and love and patience," Eims states. There is no instant maturity. This book examines the growth process in the life of a Christian and considers what nurture and guidance it takes to develop spiritually qualified workers in the church.

Book Public Life of Our Lord Jesus Christ Vol 2

Download or read book Public Life of Our Lord Jesus Christ Vol 2 written by Alban Goodier and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-12 with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Public Life of Our Lord Jesus Christ, by bishop Goodier, takes the subject of Christ's life from the coming of John the Baptist until his last day before Palm Sunday and the beginning of His passion. In this work Goodier sets out not merely to write another life of Christ or follow the mold of a devotional work or a scientific analysis but to transcend both to apply logic and reason combined with Catholic faith to understand who Jesus was, and what was the impact of his public life, what was it like for those there, what did his disciples and enemies think? Goodier's text is descriptive, lucid, and original, not being loaded up with quotes from other authors. Moreover, it is entirely faithful to the text of the Gospels and harmonizes the four narratives into one account spanning the three years of Christ's public life before His passion. In this text you will find Bishop Goodier faithful to the Gospel narrative unlike many writers in his time who applied the historical critical method to such lengths that they had rejected the gospels themselves as witnesses. Goodier notes in his introduction: "Hence in a work of this kind it has not seemed necessary to introduce any discussion concerning the four Evangelists, the authenticity of their work, or the special characteristics of each. These have been examined and proved by writers far more skilled and learned than the author and he is content to accept their decision referring readers who would examine these sources to them. On the other hand, when accepting the Gospels, he accepts them wholly and entirely. It seems to him a futile attitude of mind to take a source as authentic, and then, almost entirely from internal evidence, to proceed to whittle it away. For instance, let us take the miracles. Not only do the four Evangelists record them, but they record them as an essential part of their evidence; so essential, in every case, that if they are eliminated their whole concept of Jesus tumbles to ruins. There is scarcely any miracle which may be canceled without involving in its fall many other portions of the Gospel; eliminate them all and there is virtually nothing left. Far more fair to the facts, even from the point of view of the rationalist historian, does it seem to the author to take the evidence as he finds it, make of it the best he can, put faith in those whom he professes to acknowledge as his only safe guides, build up his picture of Jesus as they have built it up and with the same material. If he accepts some evidence and rejects the rest, this at least he must confess: that the conclusion he draws, whether true or not, cannot possibly be the picture drawn by the four Evangelists. In the present work the four Gospels have been taken simply as they are given to us; the question has been simply asked: What is the Jesus of the four Evangelists like?" (From the Introduction) This reprint from the 1944 edition has been made faithful to the original in every detail, retaining UK spelling standards found in the original. The only changes made are the correction of errata in the original text. Additionally, artwork from the Renaissance and Baroque periods has been added which is not in the original to aid the reader. Book Lessons from the Apostles

Download or read book Lessons from the Apostles written by Glen A. Blanscet and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2021-03-19 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We often think of the apostles as spiritual giants—men who were uniquely qualified to walk with Jesus and carry on His mission to the world. But the reality is they stand out more for their lack of qualifications. They were not trained religious scholars; they often misunderstood what Jesus told them; and sometimes they simply failed to live up to Jesus’s expectations. Not only did they lack qualifications, but they also encountered many of the same fears and issues we experience. They struggled with doubts, cowardice, ambition, faithlessness, pessimism, and greed. In other words, the apostles were people just like us. Yet, Jesus chose them to change the world. And they did. Lessons from the Apostles describes the struggles and personalities of these ordinary men, reveals the transformation Jesus made in their lives, and identifies specific lessons you can apply in your own life. You will also find brief accounts of the stories and legends regarding what happened to the apostles after the Bible. As you read about each of these men, you will likely recognize your own personality in one or more of them. And you will find encouragement from knowing that you too are the type of person God can use to change the world
