Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organizing our life is a skill that is developed over time through practice. In order to maintain a sense of work-life balance, our time management skills need to be top-notch. Managing our time the right way can do wonders for our work - we'll be able to finish everything on time, control our workload, remain productive, and all that without rushing, or feeling stressed. Most of us try to find solutions to our time management problems through processes. We schedule tasks in our calendar, we write to-do lists, we download the latest time-management apps. But the solution doesn't lie only in the processes. It lies in our behavior too. And if we want to be productive, we need to understand it. And this is why productivity is important. Because setting out on those paths and accomplishing our goals will ultimately lead to a meaningful and fulfilled life. A happy life.

Book Psychology and Productivity

Download or read book Psychology and Productivity written by Paul Whitney and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is based on the symposium "Psychology and Productivity: Bringing Together Research and Practice" held at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in August 1987. The conference was made possible by the Marie Wilson Howell's bequest to the UALR Psychology Department. The symposium participants (and others invited to contribute to this volume) came from three different perspectives. There were basic researchers with a broad range of theoretical interests, applied researchers with an industrial-organizational orientation, and practitioIlers who apply psychological principles in business settings. The conference was organized into three sessions, each consisting of presentations and discussions from one of the perspectives. This book follows the same format. It was our hope that the symposium would serve as a forum for communication across different areas that can contribute to understanding and improving white collar productivity. We hope that this volume helps to continue, on a broader scale, the communication established at the symposium.

Book The Psychology of Fear in Organizations

Download or read book The Psychology of Fear in Organizations written by Sheila Keegan and published by Kogan Page Publishers. This book was released on 2015-02-03 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the context of global economic recession, fear has become institutionalized in many organizations, both in the private and public sectors. Board directors are under pressure from shareholders, senior executives are attempting to maintain sales in a nervous market and many people are concerned about job security and maintaining their living standards. The Psychology of Fear in Organizations shows how fear manifests itself in large organizations, how it impacts on the workforce and how by reducing our willingness to take risks and to innovate, it can inhibit economic growth and innovation, at both an individual and corporate level. The Psychology of Fear in Organizations examines the psychological barriers to innovation and presents initiatives to loosen the paralysis caused by the economic downturn. It presents psychological theory in an accessible way to provide a better understanding of the needs and fears of people and how they can be supported to improve productivity and innovation. Online supporting resources include lecture slides on how to harness fear to fuel innovation.

Download or read book Why We Do What We Do written by Edward L. Deci and published by Penguin. This book was released on 1996-08-01 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What motivates us as students, employees, and individuals? If you reward your children for doing their homework, they will usually respond by getting it done. But is this the most effective method of motivation? No, says psychologist Edward L. Deci, who challenges traditional thinking and shows that this method actually works against performance. The best way to motivate people—at school, at work, or at home—is to support their sense of autonomy. Explaining the reasons why a task is important and then allowing as much personal freedom as possible in carrying out the task will stimulate interest and commitment, and is a much more effective approach than the standard system of reward and punishment. We are all inherently interested in the world, argues Deci, so why not nurture that interest in each other? Instead of asking, "How can I motivate people?" we should be asking, "How can I create the conditions within which people will motivate themselves?" "An insightful and provocative meditation on how people can become more genuinely engaged and succesful in pursuing their goals." —Publisher's Weekly

Book Psychology in Organizations

Download or read book Psychology in Organizations written by Kevin R. Murphy and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2013-09-05 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with two key questions. First, is there a firm scientific basis for the major applications of psychology in organizations? Second, does the practice of psychology in organizations contribute in any meaningful way to psychological research? This text attempts to answer these questions by describing some of the unique ways in which Industrial/Organizational (I/O) psychologists integrate science and practice in applying psychology in organizations. The editors of this volume believe that there is great potential for the effective interplay of science and practice in I/O psychology. Aware, however, that much work must still be done before a truly effective integration can be achieved and maintained, they have created a text that offers specific suggestions for improvement as well as many examples of successful integration. Psychology in Organizations explores the unique relationship between science and practice within industrial/organizational psychology. The contributors seek to answer two main questions: * Is there a firm scientific basis for the major applications of psychology in organizations? * Does the practice of psychology in organizations contribute in any meaningful way to psychological research? After an initial examination of the industrial/organizational psychologist as a scientist and practitioner, Psychology in Organizations looks at specific roles played in such issues as job performance and productivity, sexual harassment, drug abuse, and drug testing. A final chapter looks at both the past and future of the field and suggests future applications.
