Book Classics in Psychoanalytic Technique

Download or read book Classics in Psychoanalytic Technique written by Robert J. Langs and published by Jason Aronson, Incorporated. This book was released on 1977-07-07 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Robert Langs collects the most important and creative work ever published on how to do psychotherapy and psychoanalysis in Classics in Psychoanalytic Technique. Practioners should base their studies upon. This revised edition builds upon his previous volume of works, The Therapeutic Interaction, as well as extended the critiques that were included in the earlier book. The book is grouped into subject matters, and then arranged chronologically within each category, so as to provide a sense of growth in psychoanalytic thinking. Beginning with Freud's intrapsychic foundation and oedipal emphasis and spanning all the way to recent contributions. Included are the works of Winncott, the Kleinians, and Greenson, just to name a few. Dr. Langs concludes the volume with a paper of his own addressing the question of the whether the writings constitute a solid foundation or a façade. In any field growth and change are important, yet one can never forget their humble beginnings. Which is why Classics in Psychoanalytic Technique is a tribute to those who struggled to advance the field of psychoanalysis.

Book The Technique of Psychoanalysis Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Technique of Psychoanalysis Classic Reprint written by Smith Ely Jelliffe and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Technique of Psychoanalysis The traveller in a foreign land who keeps to the main highway needs no guide. He does not even have to know the language of the country for a judiciously distributed pour boire will put him in touch with all the more common requirements of his surroundings. With his Baedeker in hand, he may even wander about in strange surroundings oblivious to the unknown claque about him and return to his haven of safety with an outline of the topography of the city, its bricks and mortar, and possibly its trolley cars. But were he to go into the by-ways, were he to reach out for an understanding of the rich life that is actually being lived about him, he is more or less shut off, and deaf and dumb must needs grope about if without knowledge of the language of the country. The doctor of medicine is in some such a position - his unexplored countries come to him, however, he does not go to them. His Baedekers - Gray, Osier, and perhaps a rich library, furnishing the details of many complicated structures - lead him through the more frequented paths of disease processes, but, like the real traveller he not infrequently finds himself lost in unexplored territory. A new language strikes his ear at every specialistic frontier that he would pass; a rich and apparently hopeless terminology has to be mastered if he would travel in new fields, and if he would know what is going on over the boundary he must make it a part of himself. It is of no service to him to rationalize his indolence by calling this speech new-fangled, absurd or unnecessary. To shut his eyes and ears to these new languages, refusing to learn them, only hampers himself, and the stream of active intelligence goes on, leaving him in an eddy of his own isolation. Words are only tools to be used to cut into the facts of nature, so that fellow workers, through mutual understanding, can make a concerted effort and clear a pathway into the secrets of life. Book A Fresh Look at Psychoanalytic Technique

Download or read book A Fresh Look at Psychoanalytic Technique written by Fred Busch and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-08-23 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of selected papers explores psychoanalytic technique, exemplifying Fred Busch’s singular contribution to this subject, alongside the breadth and depth of his work. Covering key topics such as what is unique about psychoanalysis, interpretation, psychic truth, the role of memory and the importance of the analyst's reveries, this book brings together the author's most important work on this subject for the first time. Taken as a whole, Busch’s work has provided an updated Freudian model for a curative process through psychoanalysis, along with the techniques to accomplish this. Meticulous in providing the theoretical underpinnings for their conclusions, these essays depict how Busch, as a humanist, has continuously championed what in retrospect seems basic to psychoanalytic technique but which has not always been at the forefront of our thinking: the patient’s capacity to hear, understand and emotionally feel interventions. Presenting a deep appreciation for Freudian theory, this book also integrates the work of analysts from Europe and Latin America, which has been prevalent in his recent work. Comprehensive and clear, these works focus on clinical issues, providing numerous examples of work with patients whilst also presenting concise explanations of the theoretical background. In giving new meaning to basic principles of technique and in reviving older methods with a new focus, A Fresh Look at Psychoanalytic Technique will be of great interest to psychoanalysts and psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapists.

Book The Psychoanalytic Method

Download or read book The Psychoanalytic Method written by Oskar Pfister and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-27 with total page 618 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Psychoanalytic Method Psychoanalysis originated on a medical basis as a method of treatment for certain nervous maladies which are called functional and in which there is recognized with constantly increasing certainty the result of disturbances of the affectivity. It attains its object of removing the expressions of such disturbances, the symptoms, by presupposing that these symptoms may not be the only possible and final outcome of certain mental processes, and with that in view, exposes the history of the development of the symptoms in the memory, reawakens the processes lying underneath these symptoms and affords them a more favorable outlet under the guidance of the physician. Psychoanalysis has set up the same therapeutic goal as the hypnotic treatment, which, introduced by Liebault and Bernheim, after a long and hard struggle had acquired a place in the technique of neurologists. It goes far deeper, however, into the structure of the mental mechanism and seeks to attain permanent results and lasting changes as its objects. The hypnotic suggestion treatment, in its time, very soon passed the bounds of medical application and established itself in the service of education of young persons. If we may believe the reports, it has proven itself an effective means of overcoming the faults of children, disturbing physical habits and traits of character otherwise incorrigible. No one raised objections at that time or expressed surprise over this extension of its field of usefulness which has become fully intelligible to us only by the aid of psychoanalytic investigation. Download or read book On Freud s Psycho Analytic Method and Its Evolution Classic Reprint written by James Jackson Putnam and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-20 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from On Freud's Psycho-Analytic Method and Its Evolution But while no man, however able, can without long study master the details of this method, every man who would be liberal or scientific can and should master its principles and give the move ment his generous sympathy and support. What is psycho-analysis, and what, in general, are its aims? Psycho-analysis is a method of investigating and treating nervous invalidism and (incidentally) faults of character, which owes its strength to the fact that it searches and studies in detail, so far as this is practicable, all the significant experiences through which the patient to be treated has passed, and the motives and impulses which have animated him at psychologically important moments of his life, even since his earliest childhood. In doing this it discovers, not, indeed, all the causes of the disorder from which he sufiers, but a large number of important partial causes, and thus prepares the way for the influences tending toward recovery. This definition is, I think, substantially correct, but it needs some explanation, amplification and qualification. This book was released on 2017-10-23 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Fundamental Conceptions of Psychoanalysis The material found in this book is taken from the lec tures given at my elementary course at the department of pedagogics of the New York University. This course is primarily intended for those who are occupying themselves with problems of education and psychology. But as it is impossible to talk about the normal individual without show ing what would happen to a child if subjected to a peculiar or special kind of environment, I have given illustrative cases from abnormal spheres as well as brief, in no way technical, descriptions of some forms of mental derange ments. I have also tried to avoid technical expressions as much as possible, and have not taken the trouble to clutter this volume with a lot of references, which a book intended for professional people would necessarily demand, but any one knowing of my activities realizes that all my work is built on Prof. Freud's foundations, and are referred to his works for more detailed and more technical information. Mr. Sydney M. Frankel, one of my former students, has given me very valuable suggestions, and relieved me of the task of indexing this book. I am very much indebted to him. Book The Emergence of the Wonder Child and Other Papers

Download or read book The Emergence of the Wonder Child and Other Papers written by Arnold Bernstein and published by YBK Publishers, Inc.. This book was released on 2010 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern Psychoanalysis takes its point of departure from the problems left unresolved by Freud and his original associates. Modern Psychoanalysis was first introduced to the wider professional community by Hyman Spotnitz in 1961-62 in a series of postgraduate lectures chaired by the author, given at the Stuyvesant Polyclinic in New York City. The Emergence of the Wonder Child will interest all who are concerned to understand and advance Modern Psychoanalysis. It will have special appeal to practicing psychoanalysts seeking to master the science of therapy. While the treatment methods described here differ considerably from the orthodox treatment parameters, they follow along a natural continuum from classical psychoanalytic doctrine. The Emergence of the Wonder Child is the inaugural volume in The Development of Modern Psychoanalysis series created by the Center for Modern Psychoanalysis in New York City.
