Book The Proverbs Project for Character Development in All Nations

Download or read book The Proverbs Project for Character Development in All Nations written by Patrick K Skinner and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2015-12-22 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: General USA Edition: A Topical Proverbs Developmental Moral Study Guide & Workbook, By Patrick Skinner 48 Short Topical Chapters for greater character focus & understanding: including the Fruit of the Spirit as seen in Proverbs Proverbs 19:8 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB) 8The one who acquires good sense [literally: acquires a heart of wisdom] loves himself; one who safeguards understanding finds success. Reading And Study Plans for 9 months or a year: Excellent for Schools/small groups/personal Daily Devotions Understood culturally and historically, the heaping of burning coals was a positive action and an act of blessing our neighbor. Proverbs 25:21-22 "21If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink; for you will heap burning coals on his head, and the Lord will reward you." At the time Proverbs 25:21-22 was written wood fires were burned to keep a house warm. When the fire went out in your home you didn't have matches to restart the fire. You would go to a neighbor's home and ask for a burning coal from their fireplace to restart your fire once again. This coal would be placed in a bucket-like structure and carried on your head to your home. The natural action if you hated your neighbor- or viewed them an enemy- would be to refuse burning coals for the buckets they carried on their heads. Heaping burning coals was an act of great kindness and neighborliness. It was not our participating in judging or shaming our neighbor as many seem to assume but an act of love and giving. This book provides a tool to show how topical Proverbs could be of help in bringing character development in all the cultures/nations of the world. How this book is structured: Each topical section gives a pithy or concise definition for the topical moral terms along with an introductory explanation; asks thought questions to prepare the reader for the content; lists the verses to be read and asks questions for the reader to answer with the answers found within the verses; asks the reader to answer the thought question in light of the verses read; gives further verses for the reader to read from within the Bible related to the topic; and asks the reader to apply those topical verses to his or her own life. Before moving to another section a prayer is encouraged for the reader to apply the topic to his or her own spirit. "

Book The Politics of National Character

Download or read book The Politics of National Character written by Balázs Trencsényi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-02-22 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is a comparative analysis of the ideological constructions of national specificity in Romania, Bulgaria, and Hungary. Studying the growing infatuation with "national essence" it seeks to understand the radicalization of nationalism in East Central Europe in connection with the shift of the notions of historicity and temporality. Trencsényi provides a contextual analysis of the symbolic resources and available ideological references that were used for creating these discourses in the respective countries. While focusing on the interwar period when these conceptions became central to the political debate, he also reconstructs the long-term historical evolution of the discourse of ‘national characterology’. Through this prism the work offers a contextual reconstruction of the main debates of these elites on national identity from the mid-19th century until 1945. In the light of the three case studies, the volume contributes to discussions of the problem of modernism and anti-modernism in twentieth-century political thought, posing the question of the intellectual responsibility of intellectuals in constructing radical ideological frameworks. This book offers a broad intellectual panorama, discerning the common regional features as well as the considerable divergence between these three cases, while also placing them into a wider European intellectual framework of the emergence of radical nationalism.

Book Contemporary Issues in African Sciences and Science Education

Download or read book Contemporary Issues in African Sciences and Science Education written by Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-09-05 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this careful articulation of science, the editors provide an intellectual marriage of Indigenous science and science education in the African context as a way of revising schooling and education. They define science broadly to include both the science of the natural/physical/biological and the ‘science of the social’. It is noted that the current policy direction of African education continues to be a subject of intense intellectual discussion. Science education is very much at the heart of much current debates about reforming African schooling. Among the ways to counter-vision contemporary African education this book points to how we promote Indigenous science education to improve upon African science and technology development in general. The book also notes a long-standing push to re-examine local cultural resource knowings in order to appreciate and understand the nature, content and context of Indigenous knowledge science as a starting foundation for promoting African science and technology studies in general. It is argued that these interests and concerns are not mutually exclusive of each other but as a matter of fact interwoven and interdependent. The breadth of coverage of the collection reflect papers in science, Indigeneity, identity and knowledge production and the possibilities of creating a truly African-centred education. It is argued that such extensive coverage will engage and excite readers on the path of what has been termed ‘African educational recovery’. While the book is careful in avoiding stale debates about the ‘Eurocentricity of Western scientific knowledge’ and the positing of ‘Eurocentric science’ as the only science worthy of engagement, it nonetheless caution against constructing a binary between Indigenous/local science and knowledges and Western ‘scientific’ knowledge. After all, Western scientific knowledge is itself a form of local knowledge, born out of a particular social and historical context. Engaging science in a more global context will bring to the fore critical questions of how we create spaces for the study of Indigenous science knowledge in our schools. How is Indigenous science to be read, understood and theorized? And, how do educators gather/collect and interpret Indigenous science knowledges for the purposes of teaching young learners. These are critical questions for contemporary African education?

Glenn Pemberton maintains in this book that we find the so-called good life not in good things but in living well—and the biblical book of Proverbs teaches us how to live that life. Though based on solid biblical scholarship, A Life That Is Good is not a textbook, commentary, or comprehensive study. It is instead a readable, practical guide to the wisdom found in the ancient book of Proverbs—wisdom on everyday living, speech, relationships, justice, money, and much more. Pastors and church groups in particular will love and benefit from this relevant guide regarding the message of Proverbs for today’s world.

Book Women Literature and Development in Africa

Download or read book Women Literature and Development in Africa written by Anthonia C. Kalu and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-12-09 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a powerful exploration of the role of women in the evolution of African thinking and narratives on development, from the precolonial period right through to the modern day. Whilst the book identifies women’s oppression and marginalization as significant challenges to contemporary Africa’s advancement, it also explores how new written narratives draw on traditional African knowledge systems to bring deep-rooted and sometimes radical approaches to progress. The book asserts that Africans must tell their own stories, expressed through the complex meanings and nuances of African languages and often conveyed through oral traditions and storytelling, in which women play an important role. The book’s close examination of language and meaning in the African narrative tradition advances the illumination and elevation of African storytelling as part of a viable and valid knowledge base in its own right, rather than as an extension of European paradigms and methods. Anthonia C. Kalu's new edition of this important book, fully revised throughout, will also include fresh analysis of the role of digital media, education, and religion in African narratives. At a time when the prominence and participation of African women in development and sociopolitical debates is growing, this book's exploration of their lived experiences and narrative contribution will be of interest to students of African literature, gender studies, development, history, and sociology.

Download or read book Renovation of the Heart written by Dallas Willard and published by Tyndale House. This book was released on 2014-02-27 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Christians, we know that we are new creations in Jesus. So we try to act differently, hoping this will make us more like Him. But changing our outward behavior doesn’t change our hearts. Only by God’s grace can we be transformed internally. Renovation of the Heart lays a biblical foundation for understanding what best-selling author Dallas Willard calls the “transformation of the spirit”—a divine process that “brings every element in our being, working from inside out, into harmony with the will of God.” This fresh approach to spiritual growth explains the biblical reasons why Christians need to undergo change in six aspects of life: thought, feeling, will, body, social context, and soul. Willard also outlines a general pattern of transformation in each area, not as a sterile formula but as a practical process that you can follow without the guilt or perfectionism so many Christians wrestle with. Don’t settle for complacency. Accept the challenge Renovation of the Heart offers to become an intentional apprentice of Jesus Christ, changing daily as you walk with Him.
