Book The Prospects of Rural Development

Download or read book The Prospects of Rural Development written by S. Giriappa and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many Programmes Have Been Initiated To Ameliorate The Problems Of Rural Areas Which Range From Those Of Regional Development To The Issues Of Poverty Alleviation. The Recent Concern For Environment Has Enacted A Necessity For A Sustainable Approach Wherein A Subdued Technology Has To Play The Role Of Both Stabilising The Resource Augmentation Scenario And Sustaining The Gains Of Developments. It Is A Dilemma That Rural Areas Hitherto Neglected In Total Transformation Toward Viability And Regeneration Have To Bear The Grunt Of The Adverse Effects Of Developments More Than The Urban Areas. It Becomes Essential That A Holistic Pattern Of Development Wherein Different Sectors, Regions And Groups Are Simultaneously Developed And Transformed In An Integrated And Rational Manner Is Evolved To Contain The Ills Of Ecology And Economics. Not That The Current Emphasis On Rural Development Is Tardy And Overselling But It Should Be Judiciously Diversified And Differentiated So As To Achieve A Just Transformation Aimed At Development Of All Sectors, Regions And Targets. This Study Probes Into The Pattern Of Agricultural And Industrial Development And Points Out That The Pattern Requires More Sustainment And Stability. The Examples Of Coarse Cereals, Methanisation, Rural Industries Like Beekeeping Etc Are Considered To Prove The Issues. In Specifying The Process And Problems And In Understanding The Prospects Of Rural Areas, The Study Should Be Beneficial To Those Dealing With The Development Paradigms. Contents Chapter 1: Rural Development: An Introduction; Chapter 2: The Progress Of Technological Change In Indian Agriculture; Chapter 3: Rice And Ragi: A Comparison; Chapter 4: Prospects Of Rural Industrialisation; Chapter 5: Irdp: Can It Alleviate Poverty?.

Book Rural Development in China

Download or read book Rural Development in China written by Xiaotong Fei and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 1989-05-19 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays written from 1947-1986 by Fei Hsiao-tung, China's most distinguished sociologist and anthropologist, presents a rich and representative sampling of the research that has characterized his long career. In 1936, Fei conducted field work in Kaixian'gong, a village in Jiangsu province in east China. This village became the subject of his now classic study Peasant Life in China, in which he argued that, because of China's huge population and the scarcity of cultivable land, household industries such as production of raw silk were vital to the peasants' economic survival. His conclusions, long rejected by China's policymakers, have recently been embraced by the government under the political leadership of Deng Xiaopeng. Returning to Kaixian'gong in 1957 and again in the 1980s, Fei examined the changes that had occurred since his initial research. Three essays that resulted from these follow-up studies are included in this collection, providing a rare summary and analysis of developments in the village between 1936 and 1986. Also included here are four articles based on Fei's 1983-84 research in other areas of Jiangsu province. His explorations of the contrast between the wealth of southern Jiangsu and the long-standing poverty of the northern half of the province address key issues of public policy in China today. Useful to students of rural sociology as well as of Chinese history, politics, economics, and anthropology, this collection will provide an overview not only of developments in the small towns of China but also of Fei's thought.

This book was released on 2020-05-07 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masterarbeit aus dem Jahr 2020 im Fachbereich Politik - Internationale Politik - Thema: Entwicklungspolitik, Hawassa University, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Currently, there has been a growing interest in small rural business development and entrepreneurship as conduits for accelerating job opportunities – for the youth and for poverty reduction. Despite the policy recognition, the economic performance of the rural entrepreneurs or enterprises is not ground-breaking. This might not be without any factors that daunting the development of the rural entrepreneurs to make their due contribution to the development of their community. Hence, this study was undertaken in order to assess common militating challenges of the development pace and fate of rural entrepreneurship, to trace out the opportunities open to start new businesses and expand the existing ones and to examine the prospects of rural entrepreneurship. In order to achieve the desired objectives the study both qualitative as well as quantitative methods were employed. From the total of 503 entrepreneurs in the study area 125 samples were selected using multistage sampling technique. In line with this, structured questionnaire and unstructured interview were employed as instruments of data collection. The data collected through questionnaire was analyzed quantitatively and to analyze the interview data qualitative approach was applied. After the data analyzed carefully, it was found that, the rural entrepreneurship in the study area conditioned by different business environment factors which are either internal or external to the businesses. Personal traits of business owners and managerial competences and skill related deficiencies are among internal factors affecting their success. Whereas market factors, economic factors, political factors and social factors were among the challenges external to the business setting. It was also found that rural areas are not unfortunate areas to do business even though there were militating challenges. In order to make them a true catalysts of rural development, rural entrepreneurs themselves should be vigilant of the existing opportunities and make attempt to change opportunities into business, government should also play a primary role in solving its internal limitations that hinder the possibility of rural transformation through rural entrepreneurship and different bodies i.e. media, NGOs should take part in promoting rural entrepreneurship.

Book Achieving Rural Health Equity and Well Being

Download or read book Achieving Rural Health Equity and Well Being written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2018-10-17 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rural counties make up about 80 percent of the land area of the United States, but they contain less than 20 percent of the U.S. population. The relative sparseness of the population in rural areas is one of many factors that influence the health and well-being of rural Americans. Rural areas have histories, economies, and cultures that differ from those of cities and from one rural area to another. Understanding these differences is critical to taking steps to improve health and well-being in rural areas and to reduce health disparities among rural populations. To explore the impacts of economic, demographic, and social issues in rural communities and to learn about asset-based approaches to addressing the associated challenges, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine held a workshop on June 13, 2017. This publication summarizes the presentations and discussions from the workshop.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rural development is a concept centred on the improvement in the quality of life and the economic health of communities living in rural areas. Traditionally, the focus of rural development has been solely on the exploitation of natural resources such as forestry and agriculture. In modern times, with increased urbanization and improved global production networks, the focus has shifted to tourism, recreation and niche manufacturing. However for much of the developing world today, agricultural development remains the most potent weapon to end extreme poverty and boost rural development. It is crucial for economic growth, accounting for nearly 1/3rd of the global gross domestic product. This book studies, analyzes and upholds the pillars of agricultural development and its utmost significance in modern times. It elucidates the concepts and innovative models around prospective developments with respect to rural development. This book, with its detailed analyses and data, will prove immensely beneficial to professionals and students involved in this area at various levels.

Book The Development of Rural America

Download or read book The Development of Rural America written by and published by University Press of Kansas. This book was released on 2021-10-08 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last decade, rural development emerged as one of the prominent challenges facing the United States. Strong support for rural development is now found in both major political parties and at federal, state, and local levels. There is little doubt that the development of rural America will become even more important in the future. Despite unprecedented growth, both urban and rural areas in the United States are greatly deficient in many aspects of quality living conditions. The nation’s cities are slowly strangling themselves, jamming together people and industry while spawning pollution, transportation paralysis, housing blight, lack of privacy, and a crime-infested society. Rural areas simultaneously suffer from the other extreme: lack of sufficient employment opportunities, outmigration and depopulation, and too few people to support services and institutions. The migration from rural areas contributes to the problems of both the city and countryside depopulating rural places at the expense of overcrowded cities. This book focuses on rural development processes, problems, and solutions. Seven prominent specialists in the field, including agricultural and regional economists, demographers, and administrators, discuss the development of the open country, small towns, and smaller cities (up t fifty thousand population). They present an integrated approach to rural development problems, not a mere collection of readings. Valuable guidelines for policies to benefit both rural and urban areas are provided. Since rural development involves interdisciplinary scholarship, this book will be of interest to a wide range of social scientists working in rural areas both here and abroad. Economists, sociologists, and political scientists, as well as community leaders and planners, legislators, government officials and interested laymen, will find this volume useful in understanding the rural development effort. Chapters on the following topics are included: the Philosophy and Process of Community Development; The Emergence of Area Development; Demographic Trends of the U.S. Rural Population; The Conditions and Problems of Nonmetropolitan America; Systems Planning for rural Development; Use of Natural Resources in Community Development; and Rural Poverty and Urban Growth, An Economic Critique of Alternative Spatial Growth Patterns
