This book was released on 2016-11-13 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Properties of Saturated and Superheated Ammonia Vapor The first attempt to establish the fundamental equations for the vapor (ff ammonia and to compute tables of its properties was made by Ledoux.6 These equations and resulting tables, resting as they do upon unsound hypotheses and meager experimental data, are, in the light of later investigations, quite inaccurate. The next theoretical investigation of the subject was undertaken by Zeuner,7 who computed new constants for ammonia, in the equation of state of the form already applied by him to steam, and used by Ledoux for ammonia. He also constructed empirical formulas for the inner and outer latent heat, and the specific heat'of the liquid, and by use of these formulas computed tables which. Appeared in the earlier editions of his thermodynamics.8 In the later editions9 the values thus calculated have still been used for temperatures below 32° F., but results of later experimental deter minations have been used above that temperature. These tables for ammonia vapor are given in both English and French units. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Properties of Steam and Ammonia Classic Reprint

Download or read book Properties of Steam and Ammonia Classic Reprint written by G. A. Goodenough and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-15 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Properties of Steam and Ammonia The older tables Of the properties of steam were neither consistent nor accurate. The tabular values were calculated from empirical formu las based chiefly on Regnault's data, and the necessity of consistency was not, recognized. Two sets of tables have been based on the general theory developed by Callendar. These are absolutely consistent, but in the light of the knowledge acquired from the Munich experiments, they can no longer be regarded as accurate. In certain tables that have appeared recently have been embodied the results of the Munich experi ments and also the researches of Dr. Davis on the total heat of steam. These tables are undoubtedly far more accurate than the earlier tables, but, having a more or less empirical basis, they are not rigorously con sistent. The tables of the properties of saturated and superheated steam here presented are based on a new formulation the essential features of which are discussed in the first section of the book. A more complete exposi tion will be found in Bulletin No. 75, Engineering Experiment Station, University of Illinois. The new theory correlates perfectly the experi ments on the volume and specific heat of superheated steam; it gives values of the heat content of saturated steam that agree with those deduced by Davis from the throttling experiments; and, in general, it meets satisfactorily all the tests furnished by the available experimental evidence. The tables derived from the formulation are necessarily con sistent, and they are at the same time extremely accurate. Book excerpt: In 1901 the National Bureau of Standards (NBS) was founded to provide standard weights and measures and to be the national physical laboratory for the United States of America. The NBS conducted a lot of research in the fields of science and technology which were reported as "Scientific Papers." In 1988 the NBS became what we know now; the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). This is one of those documents written by employees of the NBS.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This survey of thermal systems engineering combines coverage of thermodynamics, fluid flow, and heat transfer in one volume. Developed by leading educators in the field, this book sets the standard for those interested in the thermal-fluids market. Drawing on the best of what works from market leading texts in thermodynamics (Moran), fluids (Munson) and heat transfer (Incropera), this book introduces thermal engineering using a systems focus, introduces structured problem-solving techniques, and provides applications of interest to all engineers.

Book The Properties of Liquid Ammonia Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Properties of Liquid Ammonia Classic Reprint written by Ray Boyd Ponder and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-26 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Properties of Liquid Ammonia In the fall of 1911 the study of the properties of liquid, saturated and superheated vapor of ammonia was taken up by Mr. W. E. Mosher of the Experiment Station staff under the guidance of Professor G. A. Goodenough. They have examined carefully all of the existing data that is available and have developed a characteristic equation for ammonia, similar to the one developed for steam by Professor Good enough. They have decided that the work done by Drewes, under the direction of C. Dieterici is the most complete and reli able.
