Download or read book Dynamic Plasticity written by N. Cristescu and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 627 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamic Plasticity discusses the problems encountered in the theory of dynamic deformation of plastic bodies. The book describes one-dimensional problems involving a single component of stress, particle velocity, and single spatial coordinate. The propagation of longitudinal elastic-plastic waves in thin rods or wires is a simple example of this problem of dynamic plasticity. Another one-dimensional problem, which has various possible transverse motions, is the dynamics of extensible strings. This problem is associated in calculations dealing with cables of suspension bridges, of elevator cables, of electric cables. The analogy with the mechanics of extensible strings can be extended to circular and rectangular membranes such as explained by Karunes and Onat. Karunes and Onat analyzed the propagation of transverse and longitudinal shock waves in such membranes using the Rakhmatulin theory for strings. The text also discusses axi-symmetrical problems and the problems of soil mechanics when applied to soft soils. The book can prove valuable to civil engineers, structural engineers, physicist, and students of mechanical engineering or industrial design.

Download or read book On the Determination of Constitutive Equations from Plastic Wave Propagation Phenomena written by T. Nicholas and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical results of a computer analysis are presented for two problems involving the propagation of plastic waves of uniaxial stress in long rods or bars. Characteristics of the wave propagation phenomena are determined for assumed materials which exhibit strain-rate dependent material behavior of the form proposed by Malvern, using the exponential form of the plastic strain rate function. The results are examined with regard to their uniqueness and sensitivity to the constitutive equation for cases involving the propagation of strain increments in a prestressed rod and for a suddenly applied constant velocity at the end of a long rod. Comparisons are made with predictions of the rate-independent theory of plastic wave propagation using both the static stress-strain curve and a single 'dynamic' curve. The interpretation of experimental results in terms of a proposed constitutive law is discussed.

Download or read book Mechanical Behaviour of Engineering Materials written by Y.M. Haddad and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-11-19 with total page 501 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph consists of two volumes and provides a unified, comprehensive presentation of the important topics pertaining to the understanding and determination of the mechanical behaviour of engineering materials under different regimes of loading. The large subject area is separated into eighteen chapters and four appendices, all self-contained, which give a complete picture and allow a thorough understanding of the current status and future direction of individual topics. Volume I contains eight chapters and three appendices, and concerns itself with the basic concepts pertaining to the entire monograph, together with the response behaviour of engineering materials under static and quasi-static loading. Thus, Volume I is dedicated to the introduction, the basic concepts and principles of the mechanical response of engineering materials, together with the relevant analysis of elastic, elastic-plastic, and viscoelastic behaviour. Volume II consists of ten chapters and one appendix, and concerns itself with the mechanical behaviour of various classes of materials under dynamic loading, together with the effects of local and microstructural phenomena on the response behaviour of the material. Volume II also contains selected topics concerning intelligent material systems, and pattern recognition and classification methodology for the characterization of material response states. The monograph contains a large number of illustrations, numerical examples and solved problems. The majority of chapters also contain a large number of review problems to challenge the reader. The monograph can be used as a textbook in science and engineering, for third and fourth undergraduate levels, as well as for the graduate levels. It is also a definitive reference work for scientists and engineers involved in the production, processing and applications of engineering materials, as well as for other professionals who are involved in the engineering design process.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lubliner suggested that the uniaxial constitutive equation (1.1) be used in the numerical solution of wave-propagation problems, and that the results approximating those of either hypothesis may be obtained in extreme cases. He further showed on the basis of an extremely simple, piece-wise linear, model of plastic-viscoplastic behavior, that results approaching the viscoplastic hypothesis will be obtained under one or more of the following circumstances: (1) weak impact, (2) long bar, (3) short 'relaxation' time (or natural time of the material); that converse conditions will lead to results approaching the plastic hypothesis; and that intermediate conditions require the use of the general constitutive equation. The purpose of the present study is to test further the validity of Lubliner's suggestions by means of numerical solutions of representative wave-propagation problems in bars whose mechanical behavior is described by the uniaxial constitutive equation, slightly modified to account for loading-unloading behavior.
