This book was released on 2007 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work examines the role of the prompter who operated in full view of the audience and offered all the lines to the players. Such a role and its function is fascinating, not only in its own right, but also in relation to how it might inform us about the nature and purpose of presented theatre.

Book Shakespeare as Prompter

Download or read book Shakespeare as Prompter written by Murray Cox and published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers. This book was released on 1994 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prompting is the thematic thread that pervades the pages of this book. Its primary connotation is that of the prompter who is urgently called into action, at moments of anxiety, when narrative begins to fail. The central dynamic issue concerns the amending imagination as a prompting resource which, through creativity and the aesthetic imperative, can be invoked in this therapeutic space when the patient - through fear, resistance or distraction - is unable to continue with his story. Psychotherapy can be regarded as a process in which the patient is enabled to do for himself what he cannot do on his own. Shakespeare - as the spokesman for all other poets and dramatists - prompts the therapist in the incessant search for those resonant rhythms and mutative metaphors which augment empathy and make for deeper communication and which also facilitates transference interpretation and resolution. The cadence of the spoken word and the different laminations of silence always call for more finely tuned attentiveness than the therapist, unprompted, can offer. The authors show how Shakespeare can prompt therapeutic engagement with "inaccessible" patients who might otherwise be out of therapeutic reach. At the same time, they demonstrate that the clinical, off-stage world of therapy can also prompt the work of the actor in his on-stage search for representational precision.

Book Restoration Staging 1660 74

Download or read book Restoration Staging 1660 74 written by Tim Keenan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-10-04 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Restoration Staging 1660–74 cuts through prevalent ideas of Restoration theatre and drama to read early plays in their original theatrical contexts. Tim Keenan argues that Restoration play texts contain far more information about their own performance than previously imagined. Focusing on specific productions and physical staging at the three theatres operating in the first years of the Restoration – Vere Street, Bridges Street and Lincoln’s Inn Fields – Keenan analyses stage directions, scene headings and other performance clues embedded in the play-texts themselves. These close readings shed new light on staging practices of the period, building a radical new model of early Restoration staging. Restoration Staging, 1660–74 takes account of all extant new plays written for or premiered at three of London’s early theatres, presenting a much-needed reassessment of early Restoration drama.

Book Video Production

Download or read book Video Production written by James C Foust and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-05-12 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This popular book introduces readers to the operations underlying video production. It provides thorough coverage of the theory readers need to know, balancing complexity with practical "how-to" information about detailed subjects, and it does so in a concise, conversational style. The authors have incorporated the major changes that have occurred in recent years; further increased the emphasis on digital, non-linear video production; updated and expanded information on mobile technologies; and added more than 25 new or updated figures. The subtitle remains "disciplines and techniques" because the book's focus continues to be on the fact that students need those foundations in order to be successful in video production, no matter where they may end up. Its affordable, student-friendly price, companion website, and print book and ebook options add to this book's practical nature.

Book Early Modern Playhouse Manuscripts and the Editing of Shakespeare

Download or read book Early Modern Playhouse Manuscripts and the Editing of Shakespeare written by Paul Werstine and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Early Modern Playhouse Manuscripts and the Editing of Shakespeare argues for editing Shakespeare's plays in a new way, without pretending to distinguish authorial from theatrical versions. Drawing on the work of the influential scholars A. W. Pollard and W. W. Greg, Werstine tackles the difficult issues surrounding 'foul papers' and 'promptbooks' to redefine these fundamental categories of current Shakespeare editing. In an extensive and detailed analysis, this book offers insight into the methods of theatrical personnel and a reconstruction of backstage practices in playhouses of Shakespeare's time. The book also includes a detailed analysis of nineteen manuscripts and three quartos marked up for performance - documents that together provide precious insight into how plays were put into production. Using these surviving manuscripts as a framework, Werstine goes on to explore editorial choices about what to give today's readers as 'Shakespeare'.
