Book excerpt: For three generations, God's chosen people were exiles in the land of Babylon. Today, many Christians in America feel like exiles within their own country, and there is growing disagreement regarding how to live faithfully in this complex cultural moment. Some desire to conquer our Babylon and return to a type of Christendom they believe existed in an idealized past. Others seek to assimilate the values of our culture into the church. And in between are those who are uncomfortable with either extreme, who feel spiritually homeless. These exiles are looking for a new way of understanding what faith looks like in a polarized, pluralistic, post-Christian culture. They want to know: What does it mean to be the people of God now? That's the question Rick McKinley seeks to answer. He shows exiled Christians how people of faith from other times and places discovered how to live faithfully, prophetically, and imaginatively, neither compromising their principles nor their compassion, and never giving in to despair.

Book The All In One Prominence Book of Faith

Download or read book The All In One Prominence Book of Faith written by Kamran Pirnahad and published by . This book was released on 2019-09-03 with total page 594 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prominence is an opening through which everyone can make effort to acquire and learn the Truth about all what matters in life. Godly vision will lighten up the way of the seekers. Those who willingly adhere to the principles of the Prominence faith will soon find themselves following the right track towards understanding and solving complex concepts and issues that has puzzled mankind since the beginning of time. Everyone at some point of time will come to believe in a certain system of belief or religion. However, most people really are not content with what they have been told to believe, or, the way they are being required to act, and feel that they are being wrapped with superstitions, complicated ceremonies, rituals and customs. My lifelong purpose has always been to be able to relatively reflect God's mind, and to more or less be able to represent His will in the worlds. My path and words might not appeal to everybody's taste, wants and needs; however, to adhere to righteousness is a choice that humanity should always give firsthand priority. God's Blessings do not come as a privilege, but only as an opportunity to be taken hold of and cherished in every way. It's a great responsibility and honor, which also takes lots of courage, to say and speak the words that the Lord has put in your mouth, to proclaim his love and compassion, to raise the torch of justice and to prepare His path of righteousness in this world. But, how can you tell the difference between a godly inspiration and other types of thoughts?I would say, first cleanse your life from all possible evil attachments and wicked venues, pray and wish with all your heart and soul to receive the Truth, and afterwards, just trust your instincts and intuition. God gave me the privilege to set the foundation of a comprehensive system of belief that could serve God and humanity in a pious and truthful way. In doing so, I have taken into consideration the best of all efforts of all people and their faiths who have strived to follow the tenets of virtue and righteousness.Prominence will strive to peacefully bring out the nucleus of faith out of the core of Abrahamic religions. This effort will help to release the tremendous pressure that has accumulated under the cap of the Aramaic culture which has been holding up the Hebrews, Christians and Muslims under the grip of antiquity for many centuries. Prominence will give new life to mainstream of faith and establish righteousness within the premises of a True God that all can embrace without fear of persecution, discrimination or the rule of tyranny and oppression. Prominence is a way to explore the truthful path of salvation. It's an atmosphere that provides for the freedom of mind to eventually reach and acquire higher levels of spiritual, cognitive and emotional knowledge and intelligence that could guide the way to directly connect with the Higher Heavens, to perceive Presence of God in their lives and in order to form a truthful and righteous people on Earth.

Book Journeys of Faith

Download or read book Journeys of Faith written by Chris Castaldo and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research indicates that on average, Americans change their religious affiliation at least once during their lives. Today, a number of evangelical Christians are converting to Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy and Anglicanism. Longtime Evangelicals often fail to understand the attraction of these non-Evangelical Christian traditions. Journeys of Faith examines the movement between these traditions from various angles. Four prominent converts to Eastern Orthodoxy, Catholicism, Evangelicalism and Anglicanism describe their new faith traditions and their spiritual journeys into them. Response chapters offer respectful critiques. Contributors include Wilbur Ellsworth (Eastern Orthodoxy), with a response by Craig Blaising; Francis J. Beckwith (Roman Catholicism), with Gregg Allison responding; Chris Castaldo (Evangelicalism) and Brad Gregory's Catholic response; and Lyle Dorsett (Anglicanism), with a response by Robert Peterson. This book will provide readers with first-hand accounts of thoughtful Christians changing religious affiliation or remaining true to the traditions they have always known. Pastors, counselors and students of theology will gain a wealth of insight into current faith migration within the church today.

Book The Prominence of Man s Existence

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume 1 of the subject title is a primer of other volumes to come, first in importance, time, or rank; it is the base coat or foundation of other volumes to come. It can be used as an excellent study guide for the righteous saints of God who intend, design, or resolve to God's will and maintain their salvation, which is a free gift of God through faith in Jesus Christ our Lord. These are people who are positively influenced and responsive to 2 Timothy 2:15, people who are diligent or studious to present themselves""approved to God, workers not ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth""and folks who testify that, according to 1 Corinthians 1:18 and Romans 1:16""17, the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God. In addition, we are not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ because it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. In it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith, that is, faith leading to faith, because it is written that the just shall live by faith. In the near future, look for the extraordinary life-giving introduction of The Prominence of Man's Existence: His Origin, Structure, Function, and Destiny from a Biblical Perspective Volume II with the same fact-based compelling and comprehensible reading agility as Volume I. Why write according to God's word, and not about, or according to man? Simply because according to John 17:17 God's word is truth, And, according to Jeremiah 17; 9-10 the heart of man is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked, but God searches our heart and test our mind to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings. And so, we must remain conscious or mindful of our deeds or characteristic activities that they are of moral character, because according to Romans 2:11 There is no partiality with God.

Book The Faith of Christopher Hitchens

Download or read book The Faith of Christopher Hitchens written by Larry Alex Taunton and published by HarperChristian + ORM. This book was released on 2016-04-12 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2016 Winner of the Gospel Coalition Book Awards At the time of his death, Christopher Hitchens was the most notorious atheist in the world. And yet, all was not as it seemed. “Nobody is not a divided self, of course,” he once told an interviewer, “but I think it’s rather strong in my case.” Hitchens was a man of many contradictions: a Marxist in youth who longed for acceptance among the social elites; a peacenik who revered the military; a champion of the Left who was nonetheless pro-life, pro-war-on-terror, and after 9/11 something of a neocon; and while he railed against God on stage, he maintained meaningful—though largely hidden from public view—friendships with evangelical Christians like Francis Collins, Douglas Wilson, and the author Larry Alex Taunton. In The Faith of Christopher Hitchens, Taunton offers a very personal perspective of one of our most interesting and most misunderstood public figures. Writing with genuine compassion and without compromise, Taunton traces Hitchens’s spiritual and intellectual development from his decision as a teenager to reject belief in God to his rise to prominence as one of the so-called “Four Horsemen” of the New Atheism. While Hitchens was, in the minds of many Christians, Public Enemy Number One, away from the lights and the cameras a warm friendship flourished between Hitchens and the author; a friendship that culminated in not one, but two lengthy road trips where, after Hitchens’s diagnosis of esophageal cancer, they studied the Bible together. The Faith of Christopher Hitchens gives us a candid glimpse into the inner life of this intriguing, sometimes maddening, and unexpectedly vulnerable man. “If everyone in the United States had the same qualities of loyalty and care and concern for others that Larry Taunton had, we'd be living in a much better society than we do.” ~ Christopher Hitchens

Book Faith in the Halls of Power

Download or read book Faith in the Halls of Power written by D. Michael Lindsay and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2008-10-29 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evangelicals, once at the periphery of American life, now wield power in the White House and on Wall Street, at Harvard and in Hollywood. How have they reached the pinnacles of power in such a short time? And what does this mean for evangelicals--and for America? Drawing on personal interviews with an astonishing array of prominent Americans--including two former Presidents, dozens of political and government leaders, more than 100 top business executives, plus Hollywood moguls, intellectuals, athletes, and other powerful figures--D. Michael Lindsay shows first-hand how they are bringing their vision of moral leadership into the public square. This riveting volume tells us who the real evangelical power brokers are, how they rose to prominence, and what they're doing with their clout. Lindsay reveals that evangelicals are now at home in the executive suite and on the studio lot, and from those lofty perches they have used their influence, money, and ideas to build up the evangelical movement and introduce it to wider American society. They are leaders of powerful institutions and their goals are ambitious--to bring Christian principles to bear on virtually every aspect of American life. Along the way, the book is packed with fascinating stories and striking insights. Lindsay shows how evangelicals became a force in American foreign policy, how Fortune 500 companies are becoming faith-friendly, and how the new generation of the faithful is led by "cosmopolitan evangelicals." These are well-educated men and women who read both The New York Times and Christianity Today, and who are wary of the evangelical masses' penchant for polarizing rhetoric, apocalyptic pot-boilers, and bad Christian rock. Perhaps most startling is the importance of personal relationships between leaders--a quiet conversation after Bible study can have more impact than thousands of people marching in the streets. Faith in the Halls of Power takes us inside the rarified world of the evangelical elite--beyond the hysterical panic and chest-thumping pride--to give us the real story behind the evangelical ascendancy in America. "This important work should be required reading for anyone who wants to opine publicly on what American evangelicals are really up to." --Publishers Weekly (Starred Review) "For people wanting an understanding of how evangelicals have acquired so much power, money, and influence in the past 30 years, this is the ultimate insider's book." --Sojourners Magazine "Anybody who wants to understand the nexus between God and power in modern America should start here." --The Economist "Fascinating." --John Schmalzbauer, Wall Street Journal

Book excerpt: "Read it for twists on twists, meditations on faith, and a deeply thoughtful treatment of an evangelical community." — Glamour, Beach Reads That Are Like Summer in a Book “A thoughtful and candid meditation on faith, family, and forgiveness . . . fabulous.” —Claire Lombardo, New York Times bestselling author of The Most Fun We Ever Had Recommended by Good Housekeeping, Elle, Parade, Real Simple, Glamour,Refinery29,Bustle, Oprah Daily, The Millions, Shondaland, Yahoo!, Literary Hub, and more! A mesmerizing debut novel set in northern Texas about two sisters who discover an unsettling secret about their father, the head pastor of an evangelical megachurch, that upends their lives and community—a story of family, identity, and the delicate line between faith and deception. Luke Nolan has led the Hope congregation for more than a decade, while his wife and daughters have patiently upheld what it means to live righteously. Made famous by a viral sermon on purity co-written with his eldest daughter, Abigail, Luke is the prototype of a modern preacher: tall, handsome, a spellbinding speaker. But his younger daughter Caroline has begun to notice the cracks in their comfortable life. She is certain that her perfect, pristine sister is about to marry the wrong man—and Caroline has slid into sin with a boy she’s known her entire life, wondering why God would care so much about her virginity anyway. When it comes to light, five weeks before Abigail’s wedding, that Luke has been lying to his family, the entire Nolan clan falls into a tailspin. Caroline seizes the opportunity to be alone with her sister. The two girls flee to the ranch they inherited from their maternal grandmother, far removed from the embarrassing drama of their parents and the prying eyes of the community. But with the date of Abigail’s wedding fast approaching, the sisters will have to make a hard decision about which familial bonds are worth protecting. An intimate coming-of-age story and a modern woman’s read, God Spare the Girls lays bare the rabid love of sisterhood and asks what we owe our communities, our families, and ourselves. “A deeply felt book about love — love for family and community, for people who sustain you and people who disappoint you. And love for God, too, which Kelsey McKinney writes about with humane and incisive frankness.”—Linda Holmes, New York Times bestselling author of Evvie Drake Starts Over “The accomplishment of this canny novel is in positing coming of age itself as a loss of faith—not only in the church, but in our parents, our family, and the world as we thought we understood it.” — Rumaan Alam, New York Times bestselling author of Leave the World Behind and Rich and Pretty

Book Mary in Early Christian Faith and Devotion

Download or read book Mary in Early Christian Faith and Devotion written by Stephen J. Shoemaker and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2016-07-28 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the first time a noted historian of Christianity explores the full story of the emergence and development of the Marian cult in the early Christian centuries. The means by which Mary, mother of Jesus, came to prominence have long remained strangely overlooked despite, or perhaps because of, her centrality in Christian devotion. Gathering together fresh information from often neglected sources, including early liturgical texts and Dormition and Assumption apocrypha, Stephen Shoemaker reveals that Marian devotion played a far more vital role in the development of early Christian belief and practice than has been previously recognized, finding evidence that dates back to the latter half of the second century. Through extensive research, the author is able to provide a fascinating background to the hitherto inexplicable “explosion” of Marian devotion that historians and theologians have pondered for decades, offering a wide-ranging study that challenges many conventional beliefs surrounding the subject of Mary, Mother of God.
