Book The Profitability Test

Download or read book The Profitability Test written by Harborne W. Stuart, Jr. and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2016-08-19 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new way to determine whether a business strategy will lead to profitability. This book teaches readers to understand profitability in a systematic way, equipping them to provide logically coherent answers to questions about whether a new venture will be profitable, if changes in business strategy will generate an increase in profits, or if “staying the course” will result in continued profitability. Unlike books by business gurus that offer one-size-fits-all advice, this book starts from the premise that you, the reader, are in the best position to make difficult judgments about your business. It shows how to turn these judgments into coherent analysis, presenting state-of-the art theory for understanding business strategy from an economic perspective. The basic building block is the value that is created when the buyer and seller make a deal. In simple terms, if a company is to be profitable, it must make a favorable deal with each and every customer. After setting out key principles and applying them to market situations, the book teaches readers to apply the analysis to their own businesses—in other words, to create their own business game, the main ingredients of which are people and the value that they can create. It addresses how to integrate strategic moves into the book's theory of value creation and competition in order to address the sustainability of a company's profits, the effectiveness of the “invisible hand,” and restrictions to competition. Optional appendixes explain the relevant mathematics.

Book Profit First

Download or read book Profit First written by Mike Michalowicz and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2017-02-21 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Author of cult classics The Pumpkin Plan and The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur offers a simple, counterintuitive cash management solution that will help small businesses break out of the doom spiral and achieve instant profitability. Conventional accounting uses the logical (albeit, flawed) formula: Sales - Expenses = Profit. The problem is, businesses are run by humans, and humans aren't always logical. Serial entrepreneur Mike Michalowicz has developed a behavioral approach to accounting to flip the formula: Sales - Profit = Expenses. Just as the most effective weight loss strategy is to limit portions by using smaller plates, Michalowicz shows that by taking profit first and apportioning only what remains for expenses, entrepreneurs will transform their businesses from cash-eating monsters to profitable cash cows. Using Michalowicz's Profit First system, readers will learn that: · Following 4 simple principles can simplify accounting and make it easier to manage a profitable business by looking at bank account balances. · A small, profitable business can be worth much more than a large business surviving on its top line. · Businesses that attain early and sustained profitability have a better shot at achieving long-term growth. With dozens of case studies, practical, step-by-step advice, and his signature sense of humor, Michalowicz has the game-changing roadmap for any entrepreneur to make money they always dreamed of.

Book excerpt: This is a book for solo and small firm attorneys. No matter where you are in the process of building your firm's financial foundation, we've got the tools and information that can take you to the next level. There is no shame in not knowing how to handle your firm's finances: We've dealt with hundreds of attorneys who are great lawyers, but share this same problem to one degree or another. It's not your fault. The law school you attended prepared you to be a lawyer, but likely left you completely unequipped to handle the business side of practicing law. Most of them adhere to the idea that the practice of law is a lofty, mission-driven profession, aimed at serving clients and righting wrongs - a mission that should be untainted by the concerns of business. Unfortunately, many mission-driven firms don't have the opportunity to serve their clients for very long because they can't fund their mission. Don't let this happen to you.

Book Study on the profitability of fish smoking with FTT Thiaroye kilns in C te d Ivoire

Download or read book Study on the profitability of fish smoking with FTT Thiaroye kilns in C te d Ivoire written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2020-04-01 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The FAO-Thiaroye fish processing technique (FTT) was developed in 2008–2009 by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in collaboration with the Centre National de Formation des Techniciens des Pêches et de l’Aquaculture in Senegal. The goal in developing this technique was to solve many issues inherent to traditional fish smoking methods in terms of health, safety and the environment. After the FTT was developed in Senegal, many other countries in sub-Saharan Africa have adopted this new method, while others are considering doing so. Using Côte d’Ivoire as the benchmark country for introducing the FTT in small-scale fisheries, this study was based on the assumption that it would be risky to increase the number of these kilns without first establishing their profitability. To do this, the field study combined qualitative and quantitative methods with institutional partners in Abidjan and with fish processors at three of the four pilot FTT processing facilities (Abobo-Doumé, Braffedon and Guessabo).

Book Assessing the profitability and feasibility of climate smart agriculture investment in Southern Malawi

Download or read book Assessing the profitability and feasibility of climate smart agriculture investment in Southern Malawi written by Ignaciuk, A., Maggio, G., Sitko, N.J. and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2021-07-06 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This working paper analyses the financial cost and benefit of adopting two different bundles of climate-smart agriculture (CSA) practices, which are tailored for the diverse conditions that prevail in southern Malawi. The results show the integration of CSA practices, including soil conservation, agroforestry, and livestock diversification, into conventional maize-legume and maize monocrop systems is profitable for farmers. Moreover, the profitability of these systems increases under extreme weather conditions that occur with increasing frequency in the region. However, the upfront costs and cost variability associated with the adoption of these CSA scenarios is high relative to conventional practices. In addition, while the Net Present Value is positive for the CSA scenarios, the monetary returns are small and are spread over a long investment period. These factors act as significant barriers to adopting CSA practices. Supporting farmers through climate financing or other mechanisms to make long-term private investment in CSA, based on the public benefits these investments generate for the environment, is critical for achieving widespread adoption.

Book Profit Brand

Download or read book Profit Brand written by Nick Wreden and published by Kogan Page Publishers. This book was released on 2007 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Profit Brand presents a results-driven view of branding that any CEO or CFO would applaud. While branding strategies often concern themselves with "awareness," "visibility," "impact," and "image," author Nick Wreden shifts the focus to the bottom line. He offers a comprehensive metrics-based approach to branding that allows companies to link branding activities directly with profits. Wreden looks at the inefficiencies of traditional branding strategies that stress customer acquisition over customer retention. Customer loyalty, he argues, is the key to delivering profitability. With this in mind, he explores loyalty schemes, the need to own the customer experience, and the means of leveraging allies as brand ambassadors. He covers topics such as segmentation, optimization, pricing, and communication strategies and explores accountability systems such as six sigma, CRM, and scorecards. Citing examples from global brands such as IBM, Disney, Amex and KLM, the book highlights marketing practices both good and bad.
