Book The Production of Thin Be Foils

Download or read book The Production of Thin Be Foils written by Hugh Bradner and published by . This book was released on 1948 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A procedure for making Be foils between 10−5 cm. and 10−3 cm. thick, and with diameters up to an inch and a half is described, and methods of mounting these foils are indicated. The problem of making thin Be foils was presented in connection with focusing the proton beam in the Berkeley Linear Accelerator, and although the foils are not now used in the accelerator, they have proved to be quite useful as thin targets, target supports, thin windows, etc. The Be was evaporated in vacuum and deposited on a metal collector plate. The problems encountered were: (1) obtaining reproducible quantities of evaporated Be; (2) stripping of Be from the collector plates; (3) preventing curl of the foils when they were stripped; and (4) mounting the foils.

Book Materials for Engineers and Technicians

Download or read book Materials for Engineers and Technicians written by William Bolton and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-10-03 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive yet accessible introduction to materials engineering which provides a straightforward, readable approach to the subject. The sixth edition includes a new chapter on the selection of materials, an updated discussion of new materials, and a complete glossary of key terms used in materials engineering. This renowned text has provided many thousands of students with an easily accessible introduction to the wide ranging subject area of materials engineering and manufacturing processes for over forty years. It avoids the excessive jargon and mathematical complexity so often found in textbooks for this subject, retaining the practical down-to-earth approach for which the book is noted. The increased emphasis on the selection of materials reflects the increased emphasis on this aspect of materials engineering now seen within current vocational and university courses. In addition to meeting the requirements of vocational and undergraduate engineering syllabuses, this text will also provide a valuable desktop reference for professional engineers working in product design who require a quick source of information on materials and manufacturing processes.

Book Nanostructures in Ferroelectric Films for Energy Applications

Download or read book Nanostructures in Ferroelectric Films for Energy Applications written by Jun Ouyang and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2019-07-15 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nanostructures in Ferroelectric Films for Energy Applications: Grains, Domains, Interfaces and the Engineering Methods presents methods of engineering nanostructures in ferroelectric films to improve their performance in energy harvesting and conversion and storage. Ferroelectric films, which have broad applications, including the emerging energy technology, usually consist of nanoscale inhomogeneities. For polycrystalline films, the size and distribution of nano-grains determines the macroscopic properties, especially the field-induced polarization response. For epitaxial films, the energy of internal long-range electric and elastic fields during their growth are minimized by formation of self-assembled nano-domains. This book is an accessible reference for both instructors in academia and R&D professionals. Provides the necessary components for the systematic study of the structure-property relationship in ferroelectric thin film materials using case studies in energy applications Written by leading experts in the research areas of piezoelectrics, electrocalorics, ferroelectric dielectrics (especially in capacitive energy storage), ferroelectric domains, and ferroelectric-Si technology Includes a well balanced mix of theoretical design and simulation, materials processing and integration, and dedicated characterization methods of the involved nanostructures
