Book excerpt: We have measured production of[pi][sup[+-]], [Kappa][sup[+-]], [ital p]/[ital[bar p]], [Kappa][sup 0] and[Lambda][sup 0]/[bar[Lambda]][sup 0] as a function of momentum in inclusive hadronic[ital Z][sup 0] decay events and separately in events containing primary light-([ital uds]) and[ital b]-quarks. The SLD Cherenkov Ring Imaging Detector was used to identify charged pions, kaons, and protons over most of the available momentum range 0.8[lt][ital p][lt]33 GeV/c. The neutral[Kappa][sup 0][sub s] and[Lambda][sup 0] were reconstructed using the[pi][sup+][pi][sup -] and[ital p][pi][sup -] decay modes, respectively. We present the first comparisons of momentum of charged tracks measured in the SLD Vertex Detector. Substantial differences are observed, consistent with the kinematics of[ital B]-hadron production in Z[sup 0] decays and the properties of[ital B]-hadron decays as measured at lower energies.

This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Production rates and momentum distributions have been measured for[pi][sup[+-]], K[sup[+-]], p, K[sup 0][sub s], [Lambda][sup 0], K[sup*0] and[phi] in 150,000 hadronic Z[sup 0] decays recorded by the SLD detector at the SLD collider at SLAC. The analysis uses the SLD Cerenkov Ring Imaging Detector (CRID) for clean and efficient identification of charged tracks and significant background reduction. In addition, K[sup*0] production has been studied in quark and anti-quark jet samples, which were identified by their electroweak forward backward asymmetries using the SLD high electron beam polarization. A difference between the two samples is observed in the K[sup*0] rate at high momentum, consistent with leading particle and strangeness suppression hypotheses.

Download or read book The Production of pi sup K sup P K and Lambda in Hadronic Z Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors have measured production fractions and spectra for [pi]{sup {+-}}, K{sup {+-}} and p, and production spectra for K° and [Lambda]° in both hadronic Z° decays and a Z° → light quark (uds) subset at SLD. The SLD Cherenkov Ring Imaging Detector was used to identify charged hadrons. The CCD vertex detector was used to select the enriched uds sample. For the global sample, the results are consistent with previous experiments. The authors observe a clear flavor dependence in production spectra, but only a small effect in hadron fractions and [xi] = ln(1/x{sub p}) peak positions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors have measured production rates as a function of momentum of the identified hadrons [pi], K, K°, K*°, [phi], p, [Lambda]° and their antihadrons in inclusive hadronic Z° decays, as well as separately in decays into light, c and b flavors. In addition they have compared hadron and antihadron production rates in light quark (rather than antiquark) jets. The SLD Cherenkov Ring Imaging Detector was used to identify charged hadrons. The vertex detector was used to tag high-purity samples of light- and b-flavor events. The electron beam polarization was used to tag samples of quark and antiquark jets. Clear flavor dependences are observed, consistent with expectations based upon measured production and decay properties of heavy hadrons. They use the light-flavor results to test the predictions of MLLA QCD and of various fragmentation models. Differences between hadron and antihadron production in light quark jets are observed at high momentum fraction, providing direct evidence that higher-momentum particles are more likely to contain a primary quark or antiquark, and they use these results to make a new direct measurement of strangeness suppression in the jet fragmentation process.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present improved measurements of the differential production rates of stable charged particles in hadronic Z{sup 0} decays, and of charged pions, kaons and protons identified over a wide momentum range using the SLD Cherenkov Ring Imaging Detector. In addition to flavor-inclusive Z{sup 0} decays, measurements are made for Z{sup 0} decays into light (u, d, s), c and b primary flavors, selected using the upgraded Vertex Detector. Large differences between the flavors are observed that are qualitatively consistent with expectations based upon previously measured production and decay properties of heavy hadrons. These results are used to test the predictions of QCD in the Modified Leading Logarithm Approximation, with the ansatz of Local Parton-Hadron Duality, and the predictions of three models of the hadronization process. The light-flavor results provide improved tests of these predictions, as they do not include the contribution of heavy-hadron production and decay; the heavy-flavor results provide complementary model tests. In addition we have compared hadron and antihadron production in light quark (as opposed to antiquark) jets. Differences are observed at high momentum for all three charged hadron species, providing direct probes of leading particle effects, and stringent constraints on models.

This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the running periods of the years 1992, 1993, 1994 the BES experiment at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPC) collected 22.9[plus-minus] 0.7 pb[sup[minus]1] of data at an energy of 4.03 GeV, which corresponds to a local peak for e[sup+]e[sup[minus]][yields] D[sub s][sup+]D[sub s][sup[minus]] production. Four D[sub s] hadronic decay modes were tagged: D[sub s][yields][phi][pi];[phi][yields] K[sup+]K[sup[minus]]; D[sub s][yields][bar K]*(892)[sup o]K;[bar K]*[sup o](892)[yields] K[sup[minus]][pi][sup+]; D[sub s][bar K][sup o]K;[bar K][sub s][sup o][yields][pi][sup+][pi][sup[minus]]; D[sub s][yields][bar K]*(892)[sup o]K*;[bar K]*[sup o](892)[yields] K[sup[minus]][pi][sup+]; K*(892)[yields] K[sup o][pi][sup+]; K[sub s][sup o][yields][pi][sup+][pi][sup[minus]]. Using the method of double-tagging, BES performed the first model-independent measurement of BrD[sub s[yields][phi][pi]]. Our result was Br[sub D[sub s][yields][phi][pi]]= 3.4[sub[minus]1.7-0.7][sup+4.8+1.3].

Book A Study of K sub S Lambda and bar Lambda Production in Hadronic Z sup 0 Decays

Download or read book A Study of K sub S Lambda and bar Lambda Production in Hadronic Z sup 0 Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a preliminary measurement of the inclusive production rates of K[sub s], A and X hadrons produced in e[sup +]e[sup [minus]] annihilation at the Z[sup 0] pole. The analysis is based upon approximately 50K Z[sup 0] decays collected in the SLD experiment at SLAC in 1993. The observed rates of (K[sub s]) = 1.02 [plus-minus] 0.02 [plus-minus] 0.09 and ([Lambda]) + ([bar [Lambda]]) = 0.38 [plus-minus] 0.01 [plus-minus] 0.04 are consistent with previous measurements. Our differential cross section peak-position results are shown to be consistent with QCD predictions based on the modified leading logarithm approximation and local parton-hadron duality.

Book excerpt: From 2nd international conference on elementary particles; Aix-en- Provence, France (6 Sep 1973). The results of an expcriment designed to study the K/sup -/p yields LAMBDA /sup o/ i/sup o/ pi /sup o/ and K/sup -/p yields SIGMA /sup o/ pi /sup o/ pi /sup o/ formation channels in a heavy l iquid bubble chamber are reported. These channels are impossible to observe directly by the hydrogen bubble chamber technique. Reaction cross sections for the two channels are presented. A comparison is made with cross sections of other relevant experiments. The fraction Y/sup */(1355) pi /sup o/ and LAMBDA (1405) pi /sup o/ is calculated on their respec tive Dalitz plots. (auth).

Book PSI 2S Two and Three Body Hadronic Decays

Book excerpt: The authors report measurements of branching fractions for[psi](2S) decays into[omega][pi][sup+][pi][sup -], b[sub 1][pi], [omega]f[sub 2](1270), [omega]K[sup+]K[sup -], [omega]p[bar p], [phi][pi][sup+][pi][sup -], [phi]f[sub 0](980), [phi]K[sup+] K[sup -], and an upper limit for[phi]p[bar p] final states based on a data sample of (4.02[+-] 0.22) x 10[sup 6][psi](2S) events collected with the BESI detector at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider. The branching fractions for b[sub 1][pi] and[omega]f[sub 2](1270) update previous BES results, while those for other decay modes are first measurements. The ratios of[psi](2S) and J/[psi] branching fractions are smaller than what is expected from the 12% rule by a factor of six for[omega]f[sub 2](1270), by a factor of two for[omega][pi][sup+][pi][sup -], [omega]p[bar p], and[phi]K[sup+] K[sup -], while for other studied channels the ratios are consistent with expectation within errors.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Dalitz plot analysis of the D[sup 0] hadronic decays D[sup 0][yields] K[sup 0]K[sup -][pi][sup+], D[sup 0][yields][bar K][sup 0] K[sup+][pi][sup -] and D[sup 0][yields][bar K][sup 0] K[sup+] K[sup -] is presented. This analysis is based on a data sample of 22 fb[sup -1] collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC running on or near the[Upsilon](4S) resonance. The events are selected from continuum e[sup+]e[sup -] annihilations using the decay D*[sup+][yields] D[sup 0][pi][sup+]. Preliminary measurements of the branching fractions of the above hadronic decays are obtained. Preliminary estimates of fractions and phases for resonant and nonresonant contributions to the Dalitz plot are also presented.

Book Preliminary Measurement of Leading Particle Effects in Hadronic Z sup 0 Decays

Download or read book Preliminary Measurement of Leading Particle Effects in Hadronic Z sup 0 Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present preliminary evidence for leading particle production in hadronic decays of the Z[sup 0] to light quark pairs using 150,000 events recorded in the SLD experiment at SLAC. The highly polarized electron beam produced by the SLC is used to tag quark and antiquark jets, and a signed impact parameter technique is employed to reject heavy flavor events. Charged hadrons are identified in the SLD Cherenkov Ring Imaging Detector (CRID) and[Lambda]/[bar[Lambda]] are reconstructed using their charged decay modes. In a high purity sample of quark jets, the baryon momentum spectrum is harder that that of the antibaryon, and conversely for a sample of antiquark jets, supporting the hypothesis that the faster particles in jets are more likely to carry the primary quark or antiquark from the Z[sup 0] decay. Similarly, more high momentum K[sup -] that K[sup+] are observed in quark jets and conversely for antiquark jets, consistent with the hypothesis that leading K[sup[+-]] are produced predominantly in s[bar s] events rather than[ital u][bar[ital u]] events.
