Download or read book The Process of Historical Proof Classic Reprint written by Isaac Taylor and published by . This book was released on 2015-09-27 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Process of Historical Proof There are some subjects that belong by equal right to different and independent departments of knowledge. The Christian Evidences are of this kind; for while they form an inseparable branch of theological study, they are manifestly included also in the province of general history. He, therefore, who devotes himself to the knowledge of whatever relates to the past condition of mankind, is free to examine these evidences - nay, he is bound to examine them - apart from their connection with religion. This is the ground on which I present the following pages to the reader. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Drawing on decades of research, Craig Blomberg addresses all of the major objections to the historicity of the New Testament in one comprehensive volume. Topics addressed include the formation of the Gospels, the transmission of the text, the formation of the canon, alleged contradictions, the relationship between Jesus and Paul, supposed Pauline forgeries, other gospels, miracles, and many more. Historical corroborations of details from all parts of the New Testament are also presented throughout. The Historical Reliability of the New Testament marshals the latest scholarship in responding to New Testament objections, while remaining accessible to non-specialists.

Book Justifying Historical Descriptions

Download or read book Justifying Historical Descriptions written by C. Behan McCullagh and published by CUP Archive. This book was released on 1984-10-25 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In common with history, all the social sciences crucially rely on descriptions of the past for their evidence. But when, if ever, is it reasonable to regard such descriptions as true? This book attempts to establish the conditions that warrant belief in historical descriptions. It does so in a non-technical way, analysing numerous illustrations of the different kinds of argument about the past employed by historians and others. The author concludes that no historical description can be finally proved, and that we are only ever justified in believing them for certain practical purposes. This central question has not been addressed in such a thorough and systematic manner before. It draws on recent philosophy of history and will interest philosophers. But the wealth of material and accessibility of the presentation will also make it very valuable for historians and other social scientists concerned with the logic of their disciplines.
