Book Sharing God s Blessing

Download or read book Sharing God s Blessing written by Robin Greenwood and published by SPCK. This book was released on 2016-01-21 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A tried-and-tested resource for the renewal of the local church. Faced with the unsustainability of many inherited patterns of church, the temptation may be to fall into despondency rather than seeking to regenerate patterns of mission and ministry. This book is the result of a two-year research project aimed at enabling local churches to regain a sense of confidence through exploring God's blessing and how that might be shared with the communities they serve. In Part One, Robin Greenwood explores the meaning of blessing and the power of face-to-face group conversations to transform church congregations. Part Two of the book contains outlines for five guided conversations for change on the theme of blessing. Part Three contains case study material of how this material has been used in different contexts, including for Mission Action Planning (MAP).

Nostalgia and love of parish churches is deeply embedded in the British psyche. Following the success of Poems in the Porch, a collection of hitherto unpublished poems on parish churches by Sir John Betjeman, Kevin Gardner has now assembled a new anthology of poems on the same theme yet with a greater diversity of post-war authors – Philip Larkin, R. S. Thomas, John Betjeman, C. Day Lewis, U. A. Fanthorpe and many others. The collection is introduced by a fascinating critical introduction, 'Anglican Memory and Post-war British Poetry' and will appeal to church and poetry lovers alike in their droves.

Book Fred Trueman

Download or read book Fred Trueman written by Chris Waters and published by Aurum. This book was released on 2011-10-01 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fred Trueman was so much more than a cricketing legend. ‘The greatest living Yorkshireman’ according to Prime Minister Harold Wilson, he couldn’t help excelling at everything he did, whether it was as a hostile fast bowler for Yorkshire and England, and the first man to take 300 Test wickets in a career, or as a fearlessly outspoken radio summariser for Test Match Special. He was famous for regularly spluttering that, ‘I don’t know what’s going off out there,’ as well as for the amount of swearing he managed to incorporate into everyday speech. Beloved of cricket crowds, who filled grounds to witness his belligerent way of playing the game, and nothing but trouble to the cricket authorities, ‘Fiery Fred’ was the epitome of a full-blooded Englishman. But as Chris Waters reveals in this first full biography, behind the charismatic, exuberant mask lay a far less self-assured man – terrified even that his new dog wouldn’t like him – and whose bucolic version of his upbringing bore no relation to the gritty and impoverished South Yorkshire mining community where he actually grew up. Drawing on dozens of new interviews with his Yorkshire colleagues, family and friends, this life of Fred Trueman will surprise and even shock, but also confirm the status of an English folk hero.

Book More Journeys of a Lifetime

Download or read book More Journeys of a Lifetime written by Len Coates and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2013-07-25 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When I wrote my first book, Journeys of a Lifetime, in 2004, it reflected how dreams of mine, of visiting unknown places in the United Kingdom, countries across the North Sea in Europe, and seemingly far off continents of America, Africa, Asia, and Australia became reality. That was mainly due to the advent of air travel, package holidays, and the massive growth of international travel in the second half of the twentieth century. Nine years on from that book, my traveling has continued, and in that time, having seen the arrival of grandchildren, naturally they have joined in some of the journeys. Although places visited in that time include some return trips to old favorites, this book reflects only the new places visited. In particular India, the Middle East, the Far East, and nearer home Eastern Europe, all are featured more this time. Also, as we now have an Aussie part of the family, naturally Australia is also a regular destination. Although the United Kingdom is much smaller in area than the others, it is packed with wonderful places to visit, so trips at home are still often on the itinerary. In addition, cruising has taken off in the last decade a bit like package deals to Europe did in the 1960s and has added a new dimension to the journeys made. Cruises are featured several times in this book. More Journeys of a Lifetime reflects the further growth in long-haul travel and the massive increase of cruising. Hope you enjoy my further travels around this small world of ours, going on from those early dreams of mine and continuing to do so!
