Book Social policy in the European Union state of play 2015

Download or read book Social policy in the European Union state of play 2015 written by David Natali (OSE) and published by ETUI. This book was released on 2015-09-23 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sixteenth edition of Social policy in the European Union: state of play has a triple ambition. First, it provides easily accessible information to a wide audience about recent developments in both EU and domestic social policymaking. Second, the volume provides a more analytical reading, embedding the key developments of the year 2014 in the most recent academic discourses. Third, the forward-looking perspective of the book aims to provide stakeholders and policymakers with specific tools that allow them to discern new opportunities to influence policymaking. In this 2015 edition of Social policy in the European Union: state of play, the authors tackle the topics of the state of EU politics after the parliamentary elections, the socialisation of the European Semester, methods of political protest, the Juncker investment plan, the EU’s contradictory education investment, the EU’s contested influence on national healthcare reforms, and the neoliberal Trojan Horse of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).

Book Financing Transitions

Download or read book Financing Transitions written by François M. de Visscher and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 2011-01-04 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If a family-owned company is to endure and provide the maximum potential opportunity for future generations, it must plan for provision of both adequate shareholder liquidity and sufficient business capital. Many believe their options are limited: restrict money available to the family; sell the business; or go public. Rather than allowing financial pressures to destroy the family business, careful planning and sophisticated use of the growing collection of financial techniques can help the family retain business control and make wise choices among many available alternatives. Financing Transitions is a guide to * anticipating and managing capital and liquidity needs * understanding how the "Family Effect" can be a family business' greatest asset--or its greatest threat * recognizing how predictable family business transitions can erupt into family crises * keeping patient capital from becoming impatient; * controlling the family business's cost of capital; and much more... Financing Transitions: gives business owners the financial insight and understanding needed to provide future generations with the fullest possible opportunity to enjoy the unique benefits of business ownership.

Book Politics of Last Resort

Download or read book Politics of Last Resort written by Jonathan White and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2020-01-13 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prominent in the EU's recent transformations has been the tendency to advance extraordinary measures in the name of crisis response. From emergency lending to macro-economics, border management to Brexit, policies are pursued unconventionally and as measures of last resort. This book investigates the nature, rise, and implications of this politics of emergency as it appears in the transnational setting. As the author argues, recourse to this method of rule is an expression of the deeper weakness of executive power in today's Europe. It is how policy-makers contend with rising socio-economic power and diminishing representative ties, seeking fall-back authority in the management of crises. In the structure of the EU they find incentives and few impediments. Whereas political exceptionalism tends to be associated with sovereign power, here it is power's diffusion and functional disaggregation that spurs politics in the emergency mode. The effect of these governing patterns is not just to challenge and reshape ideas of EU legitimacy rooted in constitutionalism and technocracy. The politics of emergency fosters a counter-politics in its mirror image, as populists and others play with themes of necessity and claim the right to disobedience in extremis. The book examines the prospects for democracy once the politics of emergency takes hold, and what it might mean to put transnational politics on a different footing.

Download or read book The Ever changing Union written by Christian Egenhofer and published by CEPS. This book was released on 2009 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Ever-Changing Union" provides a concise overview of the EU's history, institutional structures and decision-making processes. As such, its aim is not to cover the breadth or complexity of information that can now be found in EU text books; this overview should provide the reader with all the information required to gain access to a complex institutional system that has been changing ever since its creation. In the first section the European integration process is described from its beginnings in the early 1950s to the current ratification problems of the Treaty of Lisbon. A second part presents the EU's main institutions with their distinct features and a third explains how these institutions interact within the European decision-making process as a whole. In addition, the Reader includes an overview of fundamental principles of the European integration process, a comparison between the EU and federalist systems, the basic features of the EU budget and the key innovations to be introduced by the Treaty of Lisbon. The book is written for those with an initial or occasional interest in European policies and politics. More particularly, the authors believe it to be useful for civil servants, diplomats, businesses, NGO representatives as well as students and scholars who encounter the European Union in their work.
