Book The Principles of Colouring in Painting Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Principles of Colouring in Painting Classic Reprint written by Charles Martel and published by . This book was released on 2015-09-27 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Principles of Colouring in Painting The object of this little book is to explain the principles upon which harmony of colour in painting depends, and to indicate the readiest and surest way of attaining it. It will be seen that the sight of colours is not so simple an affair as is usually supposed, because the eye, while viewing a coloured object, passes through certain successive stages which are due to the physiological fact that the eye is constructed for seeing white light. These stages or conditions give rise to the various kinds of contrast here explained. Without a knowledge of these phenomena it is impossible for the painter to imitate his model correctly, except at the expense of much unnecessary time and labour; with this knowledge, he can anticipate all the influences at work which cause coloured objects to appear to him different from what they really are. Numerous works on colour and colouring are extant; but they treat only of material colours. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. There are few who have not felt, in the earlier period of study, the want of general rules to guide them in the composition and arrangement of colour in a picture. Without entering into abstract and abstruse discussions on the nature of colour, a few Of its more practically-impor tant properties are pointed out, and general rules founded upon them. These are made so simple as to be easily understood, and so few as to be readily remembered. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Enjoyment and Use of Color In presenting an introduction to the study Of color as used in the arts, this book takes account Of the close rela tion that exists between the laws Of color in physics and the quality Of color tones and combinations in art. It makes use Of the principles Of light and optics as furnishing a sys tematic approach to an otherwise bewildering realm, in sc far as an evident correlation exists between the external physical causes Of color and the subjective aesthetic experi ences. On the basis Of these it presents a progressive series Of experiments with actual colors in order that the studen1 may become familiar by direct personal experience, witl certain typical color effects. A few modifications and com binations Of colors are representative Of nearly all tha commonly occur, so that actual experiment with these fey helps to interpret a wide range. The purpose Of the bool is not primarily to present a new or original theory Of 0010] but to Offer some analyses Of color effects, and to give series Of typical and interpretative experiments, togethe with references to examples in nature and art. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Principles of the Science of Colour: Concisely Stated to Aid and Promote Their Useful Application in the Decorative Arts IN the following pages I have noticed those points only which seem essential to the theory and practice of colour, including some which have not hitherto received the attention they deserve. In recommending the use of the prism, an instrument indispensable to those who would learn to judge of colours correctly, I have pointed out how, by a simple experiment with it, we may produce at will all possible hues, in all their tints and shades, with the nearest possible approach to perfection, and present them at once to the eye; and how, by another, we may see any of these colours in juxtaposition with its perfect complementary, and may also learn to compare the luminosity or brightness of colours differing in hue.
