This book was released on 2017-09-12 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Teaching of Agriculture in the High School There must be a philosophy of secondary agricultural education. Conscious aims must be set up and their desirability established, and means and methods worked out that shall be effective in securing the realization of these aims. Clearer ideas are needed of the peda gogical principles involved, and the aims in view need to be more clearly defined. In this day of special methods for the teaching of the various school subjects, there should also be one for the teaching of agriculture. So far as our knowledge goes, there is not a book that treats of the methods of teaching this subject in the high school. A consider able amount has been written on the methods of teaching nature study in the elementary school, and the agricultural colleges have their own peculiar methods adaptable to the needs of the college student, but the field embracing school methods in secondary agri culture is still a virgin one. Book Elements of Agriculture

Download or read book Elements of Agriculture written by J. Shepperd and published by . This book was released on 2015-09-27 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elements of Agriculture: A Text Book for Public Schools There is a general movement all over the United States in the direction of placing Elementary Agriculture in the course of study for country schools. In order to secure a county teacher's certificate in Wisconsin, the applicant must pass an examination in elementary agriculture. The Missouri Agricultural College and the Missouri normal schools are carefully training teachers to present this subject in country schools. In South Carolina it is taught in the eighth and ninth grades of the common schools. In Nebraska the applicant for second-grade certificate is required to pass an examination in the elements of agriculture. Elementary Agriculture finds a place in the common-school course of study for the state of Illinois, and is even taught in some of the schools of our large cities. These instances suffice to show that the subject is receiving widespread attention. During the past few years there have been several excellent books written on the subject of Elementary Agriculture for rural schools, but they are of necessity somewhat local in their treatment of the subject. Most of these books are from the cast and south, a few from the middle west, but none from the northwest. Book High School Agriculture Classic Reprint

Download or read book High School Agriculture Classic Reprint written by D. D. Mayne and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-06 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from High School Agriculture The order of the main topics as given in the text is logical. But it may be varied to suit special conditions. A very ele mentary agricultural chemistry is given first, because the names of the elements directly concerned in plant life, and somewhat of a familiarity with them, serve as a basis for all agricultural teaching. It also renders possible the use for reference of a larger number of more advanced textbooks and articles by sci entists than would otherwise be available. Familiarity with the elements and with selected compounds is the purpose rather than adherence to applications that are directly related to agri culture. If chemical laboratories are accessible for use, some of the experiments given and others to be dictated by the teacher may well be performed by the student, but excellent results for the purpose here intended may be secured if the experiments are performed by the teacher before the class. Book Principles of Farm Practice Classic Reprint

Download or read book Principles of Farm Practice Classic Reprint written by Benjamin Marshall Davis and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-13 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Principles of Farm Practice For several years the author has been giving a survey course in agriculture for teachers and prospective teachers attending the summer session of Miami University. Many of these students, who were teachers of agriculture, have expressed a Wish that the contents of the course be assembled and organized into a textbook adapted for use in the problem method of instruction. An attempt was made to organize the material of this course around the farm as the unifying center. It was then submitted to trial in both regular and smith-hughes courses in high schools. The results of this test seemed to justify making the material thus organized available for instruction in the form presented in this book.
