Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Principles and Practice of Gynecology: For Students and Practitioners In accordance with the plan of the book as set forth in the prefaces to former editions I have arranged the subjects in pathological and etiological sequence. For example, infections and inflammations are brought together, so that vulvovaginitis, metritis, salpingitis, ovaritis, and peritonitis may be studied in the combined forms which frequently they assume. In like manner, tumors are treated in another part, traumatisms in another, and displacements in another. Under this plan the student will have constantly before him the physiological and pathological unity of the reproductive system; on the other hand, if he considered all the diseases of each organ in a chapter itself, he would find tumors, traumatisms, displacements, and other anomalies thrown in between the infections of that organ and causal or resultant infections in other parts of the pelvis, and thus might lose sight of the correlation of like morbid processes to one another. This book was released on 2017-12-23 with total page 904 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Principles and Practice of Gynecology SO great have been the advance and change of views during the past four years in gynaecology, that the preparation of this edition has necessitated almost as much labor as rewriting the volume. Every portion has been thoroughly revised, a great deal left out, and much new matter added. The chapters on the relation of education and social condition to development; those on pelvic cellulitis; on the diseases of the ovary on ovariotomy; and on stone in the bladder, have been nearly rewritten. The chapters on prolapse of the vaginal walls; on lacerations at the vaginal outlet and through the sphincter ani and perinaeum; on the methods of partial and complete removal of the uterus for malignant disease on the surgical treatment of fibrous tumors; on diseases of the Fallopian tubes and on the diseases of the urethra, are essentially new, containing the views and experience of the author in a form which has not been presented to the profession before. To these chapters no fewer than one hundred and seventy-five pages of new material have been added. A portion of the manuscript of the first edition of this work was expunged, ' or rewritten, by the advice of a friend, with the object of omitting or modifying certain views therein expressed which were then deemed too decided. It was thought that the profession was not in a condition to receive views so radically different in character from those universally accepted. The opinion was expressed that even the success of the book might be jeopardized by urging the necessity for a revolution so complete as to establish a new school. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Practice of Gynecology: In Original Contributions by American Authors Wherever clearness, vividness, or more abundant information could be conveyed by illustrations they have been liberally employed both in colors and black. Most of them are original, but the Editor has not hesitated to enrich the series with selections when it appeared that no improvement could be made in their delineation of desired points. He is much indebted to Dr. E. C. Dudley's excellent Gynecology for a number of the text engravings and full-page plates. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Principles of Gynaecology This small work on the Principles of Gynaecology has been under taken with the object of presenting to the general practitioner and student, if possible in an interesting and palatable form, a complete and modern survey of the foundations on which gynaecology is established. Although I have endeavoured to treat the subject scientifically, I have at the same time tried to do so simply; for I do not believe that obscurity of expression and complexity of detail and arrangement are necessary attributes of any treatise, however learned. Download or read book The Principles and Practice of Obstetrics written by Hugh L. Hodge and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-09-26 with total page 630 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Principles and Practice of Obstetrics: Illustrated With One Hundred and Fifty-Nine Lithographic Figures From Original Photographs, and With Numerous Wood-Cuts The study of the medical sciences, thus inaugurated in America, in two of its most impor tant cities, was completely interrupted by the Revolutionary war. At the end of this conflict, medical instruction was resumed in Philadelphia. About the same time Harvard University, at Cambridge, Massachusetts, which had been founded in 1638, instituted a Medical Department, with three professorships. Dr. John Warren, who had for three years been a private lecturer upon anatomy and surgery, was appointed professor of these branches in 1783. In the arrangement of the duties of the professors, it does not appear that midwifery received any Special attention, and this omission seems to have continued until 1815, when Dr. Walter Channing was appointed Lec turer upon Obstetrics and Medical Jurisprudence. For a series of years this gentleman greatly contributed, by his personal and professional character, to elevate the science Of Obstetrics in public Opinion. He was among the first, in this country, to authorize the employment Of anaesthesia during labor. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Gynecology Classic Reprint

Download or read book Gynecology Classic Reprint written by William P. Graves and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-14 with total page 888 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Gynecology Part II is designed primarily for the undergraduate student who is taking his initial course in gynecology. It includes a description of those diseases which are essentially gynecologic, and is thus isolated in a somewhat compact form in order that the student may not be confronted by _a too formidable array of facts in his collateral reading and in his preparation for his final examination in the subject. In order to accomplish this purpose certain encumbering details have been subordinated. Thus, in the description of each disease, the underlying pathologic processes are enumerated. Microscopic detail, however, can better be learned from pictures than from tedious descriptions. For that reason' draw ings from microscopic sections illustrating the respective diseases are presented under each subject with full descriptive legends appended to them. In like manner the surgical principles involved in the treatment of the various dis eases are recounted, but the technic of the operations and the pictures illustrating their performance, matters of secondary interest to the student of the theory of gynecology, are reserved for a separate section. Part III is devoted exclusively to the technic of gynecologic surgery and is written for the assistance of the advanced student and practitioner. Surgical devices for the cure of gynecologic diseases are innumerable, and it is impossible to include them all in a book of this scope. Only those operations which from the personal experience or judgment of the author seem best suited for the special requirements are presented. Many excellent procedures have, there fore, been unavoidably omitted. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
