Grant that I may give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine; may disesteem and avoid the world, but may love retirement. Thither lead my soul, speak to my heart, and teach me what I should first do myself, and then teach others; and that I may obtain such a supply of Thy grace as is necessary both for me and for them, make me a man of earnest supplication and unceasing prayer. Let my daily sacrifices be pleasing to Thee, and let me be myself offered on the Sacrifice of the Cross by constant mortification of the flesh and spirit, that so I may have this confidence in Thee, that whatever I ask for myself or others, which Thou knowest to be needful, Thou wilt hear me, through our great High Priest, Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who with Thee and the Holy Ghost liveth and reigneth for evermore.
